Scholarships at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo

The Martin Wong Foundation scholarship competition was established to recognize and support excellence in ceramics and painting, the areas in which Martin Wong first pursued his interest in art, and later established his reputation. In 2020, the Foundation will continue to offer two scholarships in painting and two scholarships in ceramics. The first prize in each medium will be in the amount of $3000 and the second prize will be in the amount of $2,000. Since the scholarship is intended to support the continuation of a student’s education, enrollment in classes for the next fall semester will be confirmed before awards are disbursed. The purpose of the Fund is to support students who are pursuing a degree in education, with an emphasis on secondary education(grades 6 – 12), providing a minimum of a $1,000 scholarship award annually. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.

The Schatz Energy Fellowship is awarded to a graduate student in the Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE) or Energy, Technology, and Policy (ETaP) options of the Environmental Systems Graduate program. All graduate student applicants in the Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE) and Energy Technology and Policy (ETaP) pathways of the Environmental Systems program are eligible for fellowship consideration. Student must discuss the line of research or project work proposed to pursue in the graduate application essay. Student must commit to participate in research activities at Schatz Energy Research Center during the year of the fellowship award. Student must research or conduct project work in renewable energy, energy efficiency, or related areas in the clean energy field. The deadline is February 1 of each year (the same date that graduate applications are due).

The Aidan Leaf Mullin Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 to honor Aidan Leaf Mullin by supporting an annual scholarship to Humboldt State University students interested in how soils can foster sustainable agriculture. Aidan was born in San Diego, CA in 2002 and moved to Monte Sereno, CA in 2013. He loved the outdoors – camping, fishing, hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, farming – and enjoyed spending time in the Santa Cruz Mountains. In school, he was naturally drawn to the sciences. He was also a gifted guitar player and loved many styles of music, with a particular fondness for the Grateful Dead. He planned to attend Humboldt State University in 2020 to study soils. Unfortunately, Aidan died unexpectedly in 2020 and will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. Through this scholarship, Aidan’s memory lives on. The recipients of the Aidan Leaf Mullin Memorial Scholarship are carefully and thoughtfully chosen as individuals who exemplify Aidan’s spirit and ideals. To support scholarly focus, the selected students will be awarded at least $1,000 to help with tuition, books, and living expenses.

The Allan R. Davis Award is available to aerospace engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be a junior or senior and show an interest in aviation and demonstrate financial need to qualify for this award.

The Allen J. Larsen Scholarship is available to electrical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need to qualify for this award.

The Alonzo R. and Donald A. Carranza Scholarship is available to electrical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 2.75 GPA. Preference is given to students from Humboldt or Del Norte County.

The Jacks Social Equity & Accountability (SEA) scholarship will be awarded to one (1) male sport participant and one (1) female sport participant chosen by the Humboldt State Athletics Social Equity & Accountability Committee. Applicants must be a student athlete on an active/official HSU NCAA athletic team roster at time of application and must be eligible to compete in the upcoming academic year to receive this aid. They must also be enrolled full time. Criteria: Must be a student athlete on an active/official Humboldt State University NCAA athletic team roster at time of application and must be eligible to compete in the upcoming academic year to receive this aid. Barbara Merrill was a 1942 graduate in Education and later taught locally. This scholarship is awarded to a resident of the state of California who demonstrates financial need as determined by the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application. Must have a 2.5 or greater GPA.

The purpose of the Fund is to support students who have graduated from the Fortuna Union High School District who attend Humboldt State University. Scholarships will be annually awarded a minimum of $1,000 per student. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application. Preference for those students who reside in Loleta.

The Boeing Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, School of Education. You must be a credential candidate with an emphasis in science and math. Also, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need to qualify for this award.

The Cal Poly Alumni Association - Central California Chapter Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must demonstrate leadership skills, be involved in community activities, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award. You must also be a resident of Merced, Kings, Tulare, Madera, Mariposa or Fresno County.

The Cal Poly Alumni Association - Greater Monterey Bay Chapter Scholarship is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must demonstrate financial need and leadership skills and be involved in community and extracurricular activities to be considered for this award. You must also be a resident of Monterey, Santa Cruz or San Benito County.

The Cal Poly Women's Club Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need to be considered for this award. Preference is given to Club Members' relatives.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide scholarship support for computer science majors with an interest in pursuing a career in web design, gaming, film, or journalism. Awards and amounts may vary depending on funds availability.

The Charles H. Black Scholarship is available to mechanical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Preference is given to active members of Pi Tau Sigma Honorary Fraternity.

The Collegians' Jazz Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must demonstrate musical promise in studying jazz and have minimum 3.0 GPA in music coursework to be considered for this award.

Conservation Unlimited is the oldest student club on campus. The CU Alumni Association Scholarship is awarded to a currently enrolled/continuing junior or senior student with a declared major in Wildlife at HSU. Newly admitted students, both freshmen and transfers, will not be considered and should not apply for this scholarship. The Cotchett Science and Mathematics Teacher Education Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, School of Education. You must have a concentration in science or mathematics to qualify for this award. Preference is given to students with financial need.

The purpose of this fund is to support students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The eligible recipient must demonstrate interest in and commitment to the field of nursing. Demonstrate interest in and commitment to serve those economically and/ or socially disadvantaged.

The Don and Jean Morris Teacher Education Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, School of Education. You must be in the credential program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Also, you must have overcome obstacles to pursue education to qualify for this award. Preference is given to students with dependents.

The Doral Sandlin Aircraft Design Award is available to seniors majoring in aerospace engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be part of a design class team with the best aircraft design to qualify for this award.

The Doris and Thomas Montgomery Scholarship is awarded to a full time student who attended a Humboldt County high school first and then to a California high school graduate. Must be an undergraduate pursuing a major within the College of Natural Resources and Sciences. The selected recipients will demonstrate an interest through their research or major in climate. The Dr. Orval M Klose Mathematics Scholarship is established to support the education of students with financial need pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Humboldt State University. Dr. Klose was professor emeritus of Mathematics at Humboldt State University. Eligible candidates are enrolled, continuing, full-time students (minimum 12 semester units) pursuing an undergraduate degree with a declared major in Mathematics at Humboldt State University during the academic year of the award who have demonstrated financial need and a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better. Preference given to students of sophomore class standing during year of award.

The Educational Equity Scholarship is open to entering, disadvantaged freshmen at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must demonstrate the potential for academic success to be considered for this award.

The Elmo Moore Scholarship is awarded to a full time Mathematics undergraduate student. Must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

The purpose of the fund is to support students enrolled in the HSU Nursing program who hope to practice in Humboldt County in the future as well as to recognize Eva Janson for her over 30 years of service to the local community as a certified nurse-midwife. The Future Teachers Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, School of Education. You must be pursuing a multiple or single teaching credential and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify for this award.

The George and Tonny Murray Scholarship is available to sophomore materials engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have had the best GPA during your freshman year to qualify for this award.

The George C. Laumann Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be majoring in mathematics, the physical sciences or engineering. You must have finished the first-year mathematics requirements, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. You must also have earned at least $1000 during the previous year to qualify for this award.

The George E. Hoffman Scholarship is available to mechanical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be underprivileged to qualify for this award.

The George Ramos Scholarship for Journalism Excellence is available to journalism students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be a junior or senior who has an interest in urban affairs reporting to qualify for this award.

The Glenn A. Hubbard Memorial Scholarship is available to junior and senior aerospace engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

The Green and Gold Barbecue Scholarship is open to juniors, seniors and graduate students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must demonstrate scholastic achievement, character and financial need to be considered for this award.

The H. Andrew Morse Memorial Scholarship is available to junior and senior aerospace engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 2.75 GPA to qualify for this award. Preference is given to students with an interest in helicopters.

The Harley and Augusta Roberts Scholarship is open to deserving and meritorious students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award.

The Harold and Judy Cota Award is available to senior environmental engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have an interest in community public health or industrial safety and hygiene to qualify for this award.

The Harold O. Wilson Scholarship is open to animal science students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

The J.W. Van Dyke Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, School of Education. Joan G. and Joel Woodhull were committed to the environment, both through their lives and through their philanthropy. Their legacy will live on through this scholarship. The purpose of the Fund is to support Cal Poly Humboldt students majoring in Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Science, Rangeland Resources Science or related/ future majors. The Joyce Curry-Daly Memorial Scholarship is available to statistics majors and minors at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to qualify for this award.

The Ken Watson Scholarship is available to music students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in music coursework to be eligible for this award.

The Purpose of the Fund is to support high achieving second year students who are pursuing an education with a focus in Forestry Operations. Applicant is a rising sophomore and will be a sophomore when they receive the scholarship. Must be enrolled in full time units. The Kimley-Horn Scholarship is available to civil engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be a senior or graduate student with an interest in a consulting career to qualify for this award.

The Kristin King Morana Scholarship is available to history majors at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Preference is given to students who wish to attend the London Study program and plan to teach history at the middle and high school level.

The Laura E. Settle Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, School of Education. You must be in the credential program demonstrate financial need and have average to high scholastic standing. Also, you must demonstrate a record of exemplary character and citizenship, be a U.S. citizen and a California resident to qualify for this award.

Awarded to a student in the College of Natural Resources and Sciences, who shows financial need as determined by the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application. Students who have been affected by systemic racism or disadvantaged upbringing. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

The Lorene Harris Scholarship is awarded to a currently enrolled/continuing junior or senior student with a declared major in Wildlife at HSU. Newly admitted students, both freshmen and transfers, will not be considered and should not apply for this scholarship. Preference is given to students who demonstrate professional promise, are active in extracurricular activities, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

This scholarship is intended for a student pursuing a chemistry or biochemistry degree. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference given to those pursuing a career in a science field, with a medical emphasis.

The Louis H. Wayers Memorial scholarship was established in 1985 from contributions from alumnae and a large contribution from his parents. Louis attended Humboldt State University as a forestry major, graduating in June of 1970. Just a few short years after receiving an additional Masters degree in Business Administration from Humboldt in March of 1972, Lou was diagnosed as having Multiple Sclerosis. Although his conditioned worsened for ten years, his spirits were always high. What impressed Lou’s friends most was his tireless and sincere concern for his friends, even when he was faced with very poor odds of recovering. His friends who knew him well suggested a perpetual scholarship as a memorial. It was established for forestry students with financial need who had at least a junior status so they would be able to attain their educational goals as Louis had. The Lowe Family Mustang Band Scholarship is available to members of the Mustang Marching Band at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have been a member for at least two years and have a minimum 2.5 GPA to qualify for this award. Preference is given to students with financial need.

Recipient must demonstrate Lowell Diller’s passion for wildlife, love of field work, and show promise to be a teacher and mentor to others as he was.

The Lulu Grumbles Bumphrey Scholarship is open to entering freshmen at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be a graduate of Atascadero High School to be considered for this award.

Glenna Cook and her husband, Bob, established this scholarship in 1992 to honor Glenna’s grandmother, Maggie Griffin, who was a local Yurok lady. In the tradition of giving back to their community, the Cooks established the Maggie Griffin scholarship for Yurok students at Humboldt State University, where Bob Cook graduated in 1962. They take personal interest in the accomplishments of scholarship recipients by attending graduation ceremonies and other award activities.

The Oliphant Scholarships in Marine Science will be awarded on the basis of excellence, as judged by the Awards Committee to continuing HSU students. Work in progress at the Marine Laboratory in Trinidad will be one factor considered in award of the scholarships. Students working on projects at the Marine Laboratory or working on marine science projects elsewhere that have implications for marine organisms are encouraged to apply. Academic promise will be demonstrated by scholastic achievement in at least two consecutive semesters of enrollment at HSU and by letters provided by two faculty members familiar with the academic achievements of the applicant. Potential or promise for a productive career in some aspect of marine science will be considered. Graduate or undergraduate students must have at least two semesters remaining to complete degree requirements for graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree or a Master’s degree.

The Manfred and Jean Sander Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be the child of an active member of the Cal Poly Alumni Association and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award.

The Marin Rod & Gun Club Fish and Wildlife Scholarship is awarded to a full time Natural Resources: Fisheries graduate student. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

The Marin Rod & Gun Club Fish and Wildlife Scholarship is awarded to a full time graduate student in Natural Resources with a declared option and approved thesis proposal in Wildlife. Newly admitted students, both freshmen and transfers, will not be considered and should not apply for this scholarship. Preference is given to students with financial need, and residents of Marin County, California, and the United States (in that order). Awarded to an ERE student who plans to work in sustainability. Must have successfully completed ENGR 326 or equivalent. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Awards and amounts are subject to change upon availability.

The purpose of this scholarship is to help support a graduate student in the Social Work Department pursuing a degree with a public school based internship. Recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Awards and amounts are estimated based on funding and are subject to change.

The purpose shall be to support students pursuing a degree in Environment Science Management. Upper division and graduate students are eligible to apply. Must demonstrate an interest and willingness to participate in learning opportunities under the direction of a faculty member. Award amounts will vary depending on availability of funding.

The Mark David Sheive Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who has received a Baccalaureate degree from HSU in Liberal Studies/ Multiple Subjects or other CTC (Commission on Teaching Credentialing) approved major(s) which would lead directly to Multiple Subjects credential without subject matter testing and who has met all of the application requirements for enrollment in the Teacher Preparation/Multiple Subjects credential program with a minimum 3.0 GPA. This would include re-entry students who had graduated from the Liberal Studies/Multiple Subjects program. Awarding of the scholarship is contingent on the applicant’s placement in a Multiple Subjects fieldwork classroom. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

Mark Bush was a 1979 graduate of the HSU Wildlife program. This scholarship is awarded to a currently enrolled/continuing junior or senior student with a declared major in Wildlife at HSU. Preference is given to students who demonstrate professional promise, are active in extracurricular activities, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. The Mary and Foster Keller Scholarship is a Presidential Scholarship to provide a student of exceptional academic merit and demonstrated financial need an annual financial award each year for a 4-year period. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

The Mary Stuart Rogers Foundation Scholarship is open to juniors, seniors and graduate/credential level students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a resident of Stanislaus County to be considered for this renewable award. You must also have an interest in teaching and/or demonstrate financial need.

The Maurice E. Coulter Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. This award is based on scholastic achievement, character and financial need.

The McGowan-Schultz-Widic Community Service Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have an outstanding record of commitment to the off-campus community to be considered for this award.

This is awarded to a Nursing major with a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA who will be a junior or senior level student in the year of the award. Deborah Cline Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a degree in Nursing. The family of Deborah Cline established the scholarship in her memory. Deborah graduated from HSU with a BS in Nursing in 1995. She was a professional nurse and spent much of her career in public health nursing. Successful applicants will have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better and have demonstrated financial need by completing a FAFSA or California Dream Act Application. Diana Pettit Berman Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who have demonstrated an interest in and commitment to serve those economically and/ or socially disadvantaged. Woodward Scholarship: This scholarship scholarship is awarded to full-time students pursuing a degree in Nursing. Phyllis Poska: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. Robin Smith, RN, BSN Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. Eden Rubio Furgatch Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. The Eden Rubio Furgatch Memorial Scholarship was established to honor and memorialize Eden Rubio Furgatch, a 1983 graduate of HSU’s Nursing program. Eden was passionate about her family, finances, and food. Eating healthy and feeding others brought her great joy. And helping educate other women about taking control of their financial lives was a personal passion of hers. Eden was strong, she was brave, she was a fighter to the very end. Eden did not lose her 20-year battle with cancer, instead her body simply couldn’t keep up with her drive. Created in 2021, the Eden Rubio Furgatch Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by her husband, Jacob Furgatch, to support students attending HSU to pursue a degree in Nursing. Eva Janson: The purpose of the fund is to support students enrolled in the HSU Nursing program who hope to practice in Humboldt County in the future as well as to recognize Eva Janson for her over 30 years of service to the local community as a certified nurse-midwife. Roberta Luskin-Hawk: The purpose of the fund is to support students enrolled in the HSU Nursing program who hope to practice in Humboldt County. Diana McGurk Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. The Shirley and Palmer Jensen Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. Joseph and Barbara Bania: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application. Terry L. Stogdell Scholarship- This scholarship is awarded in support of a student who is pursuing a career with a focus in public health. The Pat and Molly Elliot Memorial Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. This award is based on scholastic achievement and character. First preference is given to graduates of Woodlake High School, and second preference is given to Exeter or Morro Bay High School graduates.

The Paul and Barbara Boberg Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a strong interest in your major, demonstrate financial need or worthiness and have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be considered for this award.

The Ralph E. and Florence B. Welles Scholarship is available to music students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in music coursework to be eligible for this award.

The Ralph V. Fullwiler Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. This award is based on character, potential for success and financial need. Preference is given to students who are returning to college after a prolonged absence.

The Rantec Power Systems Electrical Engineering Scholarship is available to electrical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have an interest in power electronics and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to qualify for this award.

This scholarship is awarded to a full time student pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a declared emphasis in accounting. Must have completed 12 units of upper division accounting coursework and have a 3.0 GPA. Must be a graduate from a high school or charter school in Humboldt or Del Norte County.

The Regnar Hessellund Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. This award is based on scholastic achievement, character and financial need.

The Richard Winnie Scholarship is awarded to a full time junior or senior student with a 3.0 GPA or better. Financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application may be used as a preference. Must be pursuing a major in Business, Economics, English, Environmental Studies, History, International Studies/ Relations, Journalism, Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies, Sociology, Speech Communication, World Languages/ Cultures. The purpose of scholarship is to award students pursuing a course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree at HSU. Students must be currently engaged in an approved undergraduate research project with an HSU Chemistry faculty member. Students must be enrolled full time, be at least a sophomore, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in required major courses.

Preference given to students engaged in research studies of field-based understandings of the links between freshwater and anadromous fished and the habitats upon which they depend. The preferred research topics include, but not limited to, research on impacts brought about by watershed degradation, exotic species, introductions, and pollution. Preference will also be given to students working on projects in Northern California and those projects focused upon steelhead, salmon, trout, and striped bass.

The Robert and Megan Marshall Scholarship is open to entering freshmen and junior college transfer students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be a resident of Kern County with a minimum 3.25 GPA to be considered for this renewable award. Preference is first given to residents of Bakersfield and then Taft.

The Robert Cary Scholarship was established in Fall 2006 by Robert Cary’s mother. The Robert E. Holmquist Memorial Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, who are majoring in physics. You must be attending a physics conference to qualify for this award.

The Robert Hifumi Odo Memorial Scholarship is open to third- and fourth-year architecture students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must demonstrate clear evidence of high level architectural design ability to qualify for this award.

The Robert Mott Memorial Scholarship is available to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be a kinesiology senior or a teaching credential candidate who is an active member of CAHPERD. You must also demonstrate need and aspire to a career as a teacher/coach in California to qualify for this award.

The Robert P. Balles Mathematics Scholarship is available to mathematics majors at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have the highest cumulative GPA in your math courses at the 200 level or above in the first three years of study to qualify for this award.

The Robin L. Rossi Award is open to students in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to qualify for this award.

The Russ Cummings Sophomore Aircraft Design Award is available to aerospace engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be in a sophomore design team and have the best overall design to qualify for this award.

The Rusty and Jack Stoob scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Pacific Union Elementary School in Arcata, California, with preference given to incoming freshmen. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support to students who graduated from Humboldt or Trinity County High Schools and are actively enrolled in an option within the Forestry and Wildland Resources Department programs. Selection will be made by the Department of Forestry and Wildland Resources, one scholarship will be awarded to a student in each emphasis when possible. Recipient or recipient’s family must have worked in the lumber/timber industry, such as, forestry, logging, timber trade or the agriculture industry, such as, food crops, animal production, dairies, and ranches.

The purpose of this endowment is to provide financial assistance to Humboldt State University students who served in any branch of the United States Uniformed Services. Must have verified status before disbursement of the scholarship. Will be awarded to a student with academic standing as a sophomore or above, full time enrollment, and 3.0 or better GPA. The Sheila and Yosef Tiber Scholarship is open to students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. The Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary Scholarship is available to students studying microbiology or biology at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be interested in a medical career to qualify for this award. Preference is given to graduates of a San Luis Obispo County high school.

Recipients of the Smullin scholarship must be graduates of a High School in Humboldt, Del Norte, Shasta, Trinity, Siskiyou, Tehama, Modoc, Lassen or Butte county and believe in and support the free enterprise philosophy. The Steinberg Geospatial Analysis Scholarship is awarded to students who have completed, or are currently enrolled in, a minimum of 3 units of coursework in geospatial analysis with a grade of B or better and who have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Sterling Sam scholarship is awarded to Botany majors, or graduate students doing research in Botany. Recipient must attend the Botany Ceremony in April to personally accept the award. The goal of this scholarship is to provide underrepresented students a chance at earning a botany degree, so they can make a positive impact on the community and commitment to the botanical sciences profession. By supporting students of diverse populations, this award aims to reduce the shortage of diverse botanical science professionals. All qualified students are encouraged to apply, including those who belong to one of a number of campus clubs focused on underrepresented students, individuals with a disability, and/or students who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Thelma and Kasper Ingebritson Scholarship is named after two lifelong educators devoted to early childhood education and to helping students pursue their education goals. Thelma taught kindergarten in the College Elementary School at HSU (then Humboldt State College) from 1952-1969. Kasper was a professor in the Education Department from 1950-1973. The first Ingebritson Scholarship began in the 1991-92 academic year. Over the years, more than 100 students at HSU have benefited from scholarships established by Thelma and Kasper Ingebritson. This scholarship is awarded to a Liberal Studies: Child Development or Liberal Studies: Elementary Education major. The Warren Stauffer Memorial Aeronautical Engineering Scholarship is available to aerospace engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must be participating or have participated in a cooperative education experience to qualify for this award.

The Wayne Brenckle Engineering Scholarship is available to electrical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. You must also demonstrate financial need and be a graduate of Cal Poly Partner high school to qualify for this award.

The purpose of the fund is to provide three named scholarship to honor and memorialize professors each year, and to preserve the memory of these honored professors at HSU. The William R. Tanner History Scholarship is established in memory of William R. (Bill) Tanner, professor of history at Humboldt State University, 1970 to 1999; founder of History Day at the university; and author of “A View from the Hill”, a history of Humboldt State University. The Scholarship is intended to promote and encourage students pursuing an undergraduate degree in history by providing financial support for educational expenses. Recipients will be selected by a departmental scholarship committee. Eligible students are History majors with a 2.75 or better GPA and demonstrated financial need.
