Scholarships at College of San Mateo

The Business and Entrepreneurship Club of Cañada College is pleased to announce academic scholarships to be awarded to two qualified fulltime Cañada College students majoring in Business or Entrepreneurship in the amount of $500 each to be used in Fall 2018.

The award gives recognition to students who exemplify exceptional interest and merit in the humanities/social sciences. Up to $500 will be awarded to the most deserving applicants displaying the following minimum qualifications and required materials: - Currently enrolled at Canada College with minimum of 15 units completed in the last two semesters at Canada College - Academic major/area of interest within the humanities or social sciences - All college transcripts - Minimum GPA: 2.5 Criteria for evaluation will also be based on: - One letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the Humanities or Social Sciences (current or previous instructor)

This scholarship is for a full-time, new student with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference given to students who volunteer their time to the KCSM and have a minimum of 6 units in the Small Jazz Ensemble. Scholarship support students who major in music with the intention of eventually pursuing music venue as a career. The scholarship is paid over the course of 2 years, 4 semester ($125 per semester)

CSM Transferring Student that participates in extracurricular activities, specifically a baseball student-athlete. This scholarship is for a baseball student-athlete that has no remaining eligibility at CSM, awarded during the spring semester of their second year, and distributed to the recipient upon completion of the sports season. Freshman with remaining eligibility would be excluded from this award.Criteria: – Student-Athlete is competing in the CSM Baseball Program- Student-Athlete is a full time student- Student-Athlete has completed their second year of eligibility- Student-Athlete demonstrates financial need- Student-Athlete has been a positive example and influence to teammates and baseball program- Student-Athlete plans to continue playing baseball and education at a four year college or universityOne $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship may be divided into two $500 scholarships in any given year if the selection process warrants it.

These awards will be open to all students who are or have enrolled in an astronomy course at College of San Mateo. The winners of the awards shall have the option of choosing either a $500 scholarship or an ETX-90 or equivalent telescope. Students may choose one of two categories of projects, which must be pre-approved as suitable: 1. An original observational astronomy research project at the CSM Observatory or 2. An expository research paper on astronomy and history, the arts, and culture. The prize winners will be chosen by the Head of the Astronomy department, and other involved, collaborating faculty in the astronomy and other departments.

This scholarship, awarded by the American Association of University Women, San Mateo Branch, is for SMCCCD students who have attained a minimum GPA of 3.5, show financial need, and will transfer in the following fall term to a four-year institution of higher learning accredited by the American Association of Colleges and Universities.

This scholarship is for a student who is full time, part time, continuing, or transferring with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and participates in community service activities. Special consideration will be given to students committed to social justice issues and concerns, and/or have begun their college career in Basic Skills and/or ESL courses.

This scholarship is a team spirit award given to a student athlete on the baseball team with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The student should be a continuing student in the Baseball Program looking to transfer to a four year institution. The student will display the best sportsmanship and team spirit that represents Canada College and the Baseball Program with class and integrity.

This scholarship is for graduating high-school seniors, continuing students, or transfer students with a 2.0 GPA who have demonstrated service to the community through volunteerism. Full time students and part time students (6 units) are eligible.

This scholarship is to recognize students who have made significant contributions to the College through participation in clubs, organizations, student government or community service/volunteer-work.

This scholarship is for low-income, deserving new or continuing students enrolled in the College. Recipients must have at least a 2.75 GPA in college (or, if new, in high school).

This scholarship fund is for continuing students pursuing a career in Physical Education or Healthcare. Applicants must have completed 12 units at Canada College with a minimum 2.75 GPA, and applcants must demonstrate a commitment to community service.

This scholarship was established in memory of the donor’s uncle whose big smile was the defining characteristic of his personality. In his work as an appliance salesman for Sears, and in his personal life, his big smile made people feel welcome and appreciated. He himself never attended college, but would support low-income students attending college. This districtwide scholarship is for any student that demonstrates financial need.

This scholarship is for a student majoring in STEM and with a minimum 2.75 GPA.

The Briana Scholarship shall be awarded annually in partnership with the District Promise Scholars Program which provides students with a financial award as well as counseling, support groups and many other benefits to assist in the completion of their degrees in two years or to allow them to earn enough college credits lo transfer lo a 4-yaar institution of higher learning. The scholarship is intended for first time college students with a priority given to students who have “’aged” out of the foster care system. The funds are to be used as supplement to the Promise Scholars Program and will assist with everyday living expenses such as food, housing, transportation, daycare, etc.

This scholarship is for a part time or continuing student with a minimum GPA of 2.8. The recipient’s goal should be to obtain a Certificate or AA/AS Degree. Student must be ESL level 3,4, or 400.

This scholarship is for a continuing or transferring Canada College student who has also given service to the community. Minimum GPA: 2.0. Major and/or career track: Accounting. Students should have completed at least 3 units of core accounting courses (Accounting 100, 121, 131, 192, 190, 196, etc. _ Classes with the prefix ACTG.)

This scholarship is for a full time, part time, continuing or transferring student at Canada College. The student must be enrolled in the Canada College Honors Transfer Program with a minimum 3.3 GPA. PTK membership is desirable.

This scholarship is for a continuing student who is in the Fashion Design Program at Cañada College. The recipient must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. - Minimum 3 units already completed in Fashion Department - Plans to complete Associate’s Degree or Certificate in Fashion Design from Cañada College - Artistry in Fashion participation and willing to assist in putting on this event - Essay: 250 – 750 word essay explaining why scholarship is needed, your goals, department experiences, and Artistry in Fashion experience.

This scholarship fund is for both continuing and transferring students of merit that have demonstrated consistent use of the Canada Learning Center and contribute to the overall collaborative and supportive environment of the Center. Continuing students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and transferring students must have a minimum 2.85 GPA. Initial eligibility is determined by the Scholarship Committee with final selection made by the Canada Learning Center staff.

Thanks to one of our generous donors, Cargill, this scholarship is made available through San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation. This particular scholarship is for incoming or continuing San Mateo County Community College students who require financial assistance in order to attend our community colleges. There is no minimum GPA required to qualify for this scholarship.

This scholarship is for a continuing or transferring Cañada student of merit who would benefit from textbook support

This scholarship is intended to assist a fulltime continuing or transferring student majoring in a STEM field with their college expenses. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and intend to transfer to a 4-year university after completing their program at Cañada. Extra consideration given to first generation college students and undocumented AB 540 /Dreamers. Up to five scholarships will be awarded annually.

This scholarship is for an incoming, continuing or transferring Canada student with financial need and declared long-term health problems or disabilities, who perseveres in times of challenges and maintains a positive outlook with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing a college education. Each year, the selection is made from a pool of applicants who meet those criteria with input and recommendations by the Disability Resource Center.

This scholarship fund is for two continuing students at Canada with outstanding academic success (3.0 GPA and above) and demonstrated financial need.

This Scholarship is for a new or continuing Canada student. No GPA minimum but shows academic potential, demonstrates commitment to the community through community service, philanthropic endeavors and/or efforts with underprivileged populations and demonstrates financial need. Preference given to art majors.

Cruising Into the Future Scholarship is for a continuing, transferring or returning re-entry student with a major or career track in Ethnic Studies, Humanities, Chicano/a Studies and/or Latin American Studies. Student must be an active participant in the CIPHER Learning Community or Puente Learning Community with a GPA requirement between a 2.0 and 3.0.

This scholarship is sponsored by CSEA (California School Employees Association), Chapter 33 (SMCCD), comprised of classified staff who support and assist students during their pursuit of higher education at our colleges. This scholarship is for a student who has demonstrated strong leadership skills on their campus, i.e., student government, clubs, student worker, tutoring, or mentorship. Student must be full time or continuing, have a 3.0 or higher GPA, and have a major or career track goal. Student should participate in extra curricular activities, in a leadership role, not just participation. Student must show a financial need.

This scholarship is for Canada students on the basis of financial need and academic merit. The students shall be incoming, continuing, or returning.

In memory of Darryl Usher, son of Alma Usher, a classified staff member at Canada, this scholarship will be awarded to a Canada athlete with minimum GPA of 2.0. The student must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to transfer students.

This scholarship is for a transfer student.

This Canada scholarship is for a continuing full-time or part-time student in Interior Design who is chosen by the Interior Design Department. Financial need is not a decisive factor. The criteria are industriousness, diligence, devotion to the program and to the interior design field, at least a modicum of talent, and other criteria determined by the Interior Design faculty.

The Dr. Steven J. Shire Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to the Cañada College Digital Art and Animation student who would like to expand her/his knowledge and skill in photography. The award is generously donated by the Shire family in memory of Steve, a scientist and lover of digital art who passed away in June 2017. Steve fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a chemist and began his career at Genentech where, over 32 years, he achieved more than 10 patents and published around 90 reviews and 100 scientific articles, including his recent book “Monoclonal Antibodies: Meeting the Challenges in Manufacturing, Formulation, Delivery and Stability of Final Drug Product,” (2015). Woodhead Publishing Series on Biomedicine (An imprint of Elsevier, London). Steve was an educator who served as a member of the Keck Graduate Institute Advisory Council, and as an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the University of Connecticut, USC School of Pharmacy, and University of Kansas. He volunteered for worthy causes throughout his life. Steve particularly enjoyed multimedia classes in Cañada College’s Digital Art and Animation department and the Shire family has chosen to honor his passion.

This scholarship is for a continuing or transferring DSPS student to purchase books. Cumulative 2.50 GPA and must be enrolled in at least 6.0 units unless a documented health or disability impairment restricts the students to less than six credits. Student selected and award amount determined by DSPS staff.

This scholarship is for students who have declared Early Childhood Education as their major and who are preparing for an AS degree or transfer. The criteria include: minimum 3.25 G.P.A, the need for financial assistance, and demonstrated service to the community. It will be designated to a continuing student who is either full time or part time who has completed 24 units in Early Childhood Education and has a received a certificate in ECE.

This scholarship is for a new or continuing Canada student. Minimum GPA is 3.0 with a major in nursing, medical sciences or biology-related sciences.

This scholarship is for a continuing or returning student majoring in Studio Art, Students must have completed one year at Cañada, be fulltime, have a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Should there not be a qualified Studio Art applicant, then the scholarship may be presented to an otherwise qualified applicant majoring in Multimedia Art, Art History, Music or Drama, in this order.

This scholarship is made in the name of Elizabeth Rose Miller, who was a graduate of the San Mateo County Community College District in English. She was a published author of the American Revolution as seen by the British newspapers. She was also the Head Librarian at both the Redwood City Tribune and the Palo Alto Times newspapers. The annual stipend should be given to a student with a minimum GPA of 3.5, who is also a full time student who will be transferring to a 4-yeart academic institution for an AB or BA degree in Journalism or English! This student should also be involved in both Extra Curricular Activities and Volunteer Services. The funds will be made available upon confirmation of enrollment of the transfer student at a 4-year institution after transferring.

This scholarship is for a deserving Canada Art student.

This scholarship is for a full time, continuing, or transferring (to a 4 year university) EOPS student. Minimum GPA: 2.0 and must demonstrate leadership and service to the community.

This scholarship is for one continuing Canada student, with a 3.0 GPA, and financial need, living in San Mateo County or Santa Clara County. Special consideration is given to applicants who have or whose family has immigrated to the United States.

This scholarship is given to honor the memory of classified staff member, Gail Kamei, whose warmth and kindness were a hallmark of her career at Canada College. This scholarship will be awarded each year to a current or former student assistant in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions to the College.

Gena Rhodes was a long time faculty member in our Canada College Personal Counseling Center. In October of 2020 she tragically passed away. The goal of this fund is to establish an ongoing scholarship to provide as many $500 awards as possible annually to support students with mental health challenges who have demonstrated success at Canada College and/or to support students who are interested in pursuing a career as a mental health professional.

This fund is for one scholarship for a continuing or transferring Canada student who is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is majoring in the humanities as defined by the Canada College division configuration.

Named in memory of long-time Canada College instructor in English, this fund is for students entering or continuing at Canada College, enrolled in or about to enroll in the English Institute in order to concentrate on English as a Second Language. Students must have demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Special consideration is given to applicants who residents of San Mateo County.

This scholarship recognizes Cañada students of merit who will be the first in their family to receive a college degree. Students must be full time, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and are working towards earning their associate’s degree and / or transferring to earn a bachelor’s degree.

In memory of Jean D. Berdon and her mother, this scholarship is for a student majoring in mathematics or engineering. Special consideration is given to female applicants majoring in mathematics or engineering.

The Hohbach Family Scholarship is open to full-time Canada College students looking to further their education or professional careers, but lacking financial resources or family aid to achieve them. As part of the application process, candidates who wish to be considered should include a personal statement addressing their need, along with a description of future goals they plan to accomplish. Higher consideration will be given to students who are involved in campus life and programs celebrating Latino culture, including PUENTE, MESA, TRIO, Latino Culture activities and EOPS. A minimum 2.5 GPA is recommended for all applicants.

This scholarship is for a full-time second-year student (one who has completed at least 30 units) or a graduate of one of the District’s colleges who will matriculate as an education major to the Education Department of the California State University System or the University of California system.

In the tradition of CSM Professor Joe McDonough’s social activism and AFT 1493 Union work, this scholarship is aimed at SMCCCD students who are actively involved in the fight for social justice. Applicants must demonstrate involvement in an organization working to achieve social justice, helping to create a just society. This activity can be through a campus organization or club, or a community group/organization. Examples include (but are not limited to): BSU, Black Lives Matter, DREAMER/DACA, LGBT rights, Third World student groups, anti-death penalty, global justice, disability rights, environmental work and racism, to name just a few. DREAMERS and DACA encouraged to apply. Ideally, this scholarship will allow a student to work fewer hours and participate in activities including volunteer service or internships with organizations that promote equity, civil rights and other social justice imperatives.

This scholarship is for a full time, part time, Canada student based on college goals and/or major of a Kitchen and Bath Certificate. Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0.

This Canada scholarship is for one re-entry student who is a single parent, with a 3.0 GPA and financial need, living in San Mateo County or Santa Clara County; preference should be given to continuing students at Canada. Special consideration will be given to applicants 27 years of age or older.

This scholarship is for continuing or transferring Cañada students who have demonstrated commitment to service in their community and/or have expressed an interest in pursuing a career in public service. Student must have at least a 2.75 GPA and have long-term academic interests in leadership development, public administration, teaching or a closely related field.

This scholarship fund is for a nursing student. The recipient should be a full or part time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is based on merit and demonstrated financial need. The recipient(s) should show a promise of success in the Nursing Program.

This Scholarship is for STEM majors that are part time, continuing, or transferring students. Minimum 2.5 GPA. Students should actively participate in Math Club or any math events i.e. tutoring, and engage in service to community.

This scholarship is for a currently enrolled Canada student who has completed twelve or more units and is planning to transfer.

This scholarship is in honor of Nellie Leong, a dedicated and popular 10-year employee of SMCCCD. The scholarship is for full-time students (12+ units) who are continuing or transferring students, and shall be awarded based on a combination of financial need and academic performance.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide scholarship support to those students showing financial need and who indicate that they are planning to transfer to a 4-year institution following their time at SMCCCD. This scholarship includes a mentorship component. Students are required to meet with the donor once a semester.

For students who have financial need and potential for success. Must be receiving the Board of Governors Fee Waiver and have at least 24 units completed and plan to continue next year at Canada College.

This scholarship is for a full-time, continuing, or transfer Canada student with a minimum 2.0 GPA, with financial need and a participant in service to the community. Other criteria to take into consideration include a student involved in the Black Student Union and those who have faced financial hardship such as single parents.

Named in memory of long-time classified staff member Pat Hanada, this scholarship will be awarded each year to a Canada student in recognition of outstanding service and/or contributions to the College, either as a volunteer, as a club officer, or as a paid student assistant. Minimum GPA of 2.5, continuing or transferring student.

This scholarship is to recognize a student of academic merit who demonstrates financial need. Students may be incoming, continuing or transferring. Two awards will be provided annually at each of the campuses on a rotating basis.

The scholarship is for a full time, continuing student at Canada College. Major: Radiologic Technology. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in all radiologic technology courses.

The President Moore Scholarship recognizes a full time transfer-oriented student attending Cañada College that has a demonstrated commitment to social justice efforts and who is actively engaged in community service activities. Special consideration given to veterans, former foster youth, students at risk of or experiencing homelessness and those who must work while attending full time.

Applicants must show outstanding academic achievement and be residents of Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, or East Menlo Park. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are involved in African-American culture. The students must demonstrate financial need.

This scholarship is for a transfer student majoring in Psychology or Human Services. Applicants must have a minimum 3.2 GPA, have a financial need, and be involved in service to the community.

This scholarship is for a continuing or transferring student who has demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship, in honor of emeritus Cañada President Robert Stiff, is awarded each year to recognize students of academic merit with financial need that have demonstrated a commitment to the betterment of Cañada College by being involved in leadership or volunteer activities. Students may be continuing or transferring.

Named in memory of a distinguished teacher of Theatre Arts at all three county community colleges, this scholarship is for a Canada student who is continuing at Canada or transferring to a four-year school. The student should be a versatile student of theatre arts, have been recommended by the Drama Department, and have at least a 2.0 GPA.

This scholarship is for a full time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Major and/or career track: Students enrolled in CSM’s ASN or Canada’s BSN programs. The student should have a demonstrated financial need with a high likelihood of success in the nursing program.

This scholarship is for an Early Childhood Education, CAD track student attending Canada College. Full time, Part time, Graduating High School Senior, and Continuing students may apply. Minimum GPA: 3.0.

The award recipient may also be offered a service learning experience, e.g. job shadow, internship, etc. with the City of San Mateo after completing coursework at the San Mateo County Community College District as opportunities become available.

This scholarship is for one or two students involved in Hispanic or Portuguese culture that live or have lived in San Mateo County, preferably on the Coast, with a minimum 2.0 GPA. The student must have completed a minimum of 25 college units and must have financial need. Special consideration given to female applicants.

This scholarship is for two continuing students and two transferring student at each College. Students should have a minimum 3.0 GPA, completed 12 units at college of application, and enrolled as a full-time student when the scholarship funds are received.

This fund will be used to help send students abroad to study. Host countries to include, but limited to: Spain, Great Britian, Italy, and France. Must be a full time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

This scholarship is for a student who is full time and transferring with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Major or Career Track Options: Anthropology, Communication Studies, Economics, Geography, History, Philosoply, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology. The recipients should participate in various clubs on campus, especially the Social Sciences Club, Political Awareness Club, and/or Phi Theta Kappa.

This fund is for any student admitted for enrollment in the Spanish/ English Interpretation Program and who has demonstrated service to the community.

In memory of classified staff member Susan Yoshimura, this scholarship will be awarded to a continuing Canada student who has completed at least 9.0 units with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference given to a student who is utilizing support services through the College’s Wellness Center as a means of achieving academic success.

This scholarship recognizes fulltime students of academic merit that have demonstrated financial need, Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

This scholarship is for incoming, continuing or transferring students majoring in a STEM field. Students must have demonstrated financial need and a minimum 2.5 GPA..

This scholarship is for full-time continuing students with financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to student employees at the bookstores. These are in-kind scholarships good for textbooks only and can only be used in one of the District Bookstores.

This scholarship is for two outstanding transfer or continuing Cañada students majoring in a science related major.

This scholarship is for an incoming or continuing student who plans the transfer to a 4-year university after completing their educational goal at Cañada College. Students must be San Mateo County residents, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided students maintain the minimum GPA and progress standards in completing their educational goal.

This fund is for students in or entering the Interior Design Department who intend to pursue a professional career in the Interior Design fields. The student should be full or part time, continuing or transferring, and demonstrate financial need. The student should demonstrate artistic or technical ability through a combination of portfolio, letters of recommendation, and/or GPA. If possible, this scholarship should help students whose current circumstances present obstacles. If all applicants are otherwise equally qualified, preference should be given to veterans of the armed services.

The Tom Mohr Presidential Scholarship recognizes a full time transfer-oriented student attending Cañada College that has a demonstrated commitment to an intellectual life of the College beyond the classroom; social justice efforts; and who is actively engaged in community service activities. Students must reside in San Mateo County. Special consideration given to veterans and students who must work while attending full time.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students pursuing careers in Visual and Performing Arts. Visual and Performing Arts are defined as dance, music, photography, drama, painting, sculpting, drawing, architecture, graphic design, mixed media, animation and gaming, multimedia, and museum studies. Students must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A, demonstrate financial need, and be accepted by and transferring to a baccalaureate and/or graduate degree program at an accredited institution majoring in a Visual and Performing Arts program as defined above. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in at least 12 units at the time the scholarship funds are disbursed. The Scholarship is to be used for tuition only.

The Veterans Resource and Opportunity Center (V-ROC) Scholarship is intended for a veteran or active duty service member who is pursuing a certificate, degree, or transfer. Demonstrated commitment to serving fellow veterans, the college, and greater community. Students active in the Canada Veterans Club given priority. This scholarship is for part time, continuing, and tranferring students with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Special consideration given to AB540 qualified students with financial need who are transferring to a UC or CSU.

This scholarship is for a continuing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA, a Gaming/3D Animation/Multimedia major and who has completed a minimum of 6 units in the multimedia field at Canada College.

This scholarship is for an outstanding Cañada student majoring in STEM.

These scholarships are available for high school students who plan to attend and for continuing students who are currently attending SMCCCD colleges. Thanks to the SMCCC Foundation‰Ûªs successful 40th Anniversary Gala in 2006, each college will be able to award l5 scholarships. Each college will award one scholarship to each of its feeder high schools. The scholarships are intended to be renewable for a second year to students who show continued progress. Criteria include demonstrated leadership and service to the community, financial need and a GPA of 2.0 or better. Continuing students must be enrolled in 9 or more semester units and have completed no more than 24 units.

This scholarship is for a working student with demonstrated financial need.

This fund provides scholarships for CSM students as selected by the Academic Senate Scholarship Committee. This scholarship is for a continuing or transfer student, enrolled full or part time, minimum GPA required is 3.0 or higher. Whether part-time or full-time, recipient must have completed 12 college units to receive award (at least 6 of which have been completed at CSM). Recipients must have been active and/or employed in an academic support role on the CSM campus, including learning centers, supplemental instruction, peer tutorial services, student assistants, instructional aides, or other student learning support programs.

This fund provides scholarships for CSM students as selected by the Academic Senate Scholarship Committee. This scholarship is for a continuing or transfer student, enrolled full or part time, minimum GPA required is 2.0 or higher. Whether part-time or full-time, recipient must be in good academic standing. Recipients should have been active in at least one volunteer community service role, whether on campus or in the broader community. Such volunteer community service should be ongoing (rather than one-time), totaling at least 10 hours, during the course of at least one semester. Examples would include volunteer service for the environment, low-income populations, religious organizations, homeless and animal shelters, educational organizations, food drives, and so on. Priority will be given to significant, socially conscious volunteer service. Recipients must furnish evidence of community service, including a letter of support from a supervisor.

This annual scholarship is for a student who is attending CSM with the intention of pursuing a four-year degree in his or her field of study. Minimum GPA is 3.00. Applicants academic history must indicate that he/she can handle college-level coursework. Financial need is a factor.

This fund provides scholarships for CSM students as selected by the Scholarship Committee, using a point system based on a 1993 AGS letter to CSM, as well as for club programs and activities.

The Assistance League of San Mateo County Scholarship is for students that have an economic need. There is no academic requirement for this scholarship. Special consideration given to: 1.) Women returning to college or continuing in college in an effort to become more financially self-sufficient through education. 2.) Single mothers/single parents attending school to re-enter the workforce in an effort to become more financially self-sufficient through education. This scholarship is not for transferring students. Students must have a least one more year left at San Mateo County Community College District.

Through the Women in Broadcasting Fund (WBF), those who support women’s issues and women in the field of broadcasting shall award one scholarship annually to a student in the College of San Mateo’s Digital Media: Broadcast and Electric Media Program. Successful WBF scholarship recipients will demonstrate talent and motivation to pursue a career in the broadcasting field. Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria: a. A declared/signed major of Digital Media at the College of San Mateo b. The student must be entering their second year of studies c. A 2.8 grade level average or above during the first year of studies.

This scholarship is for one graduating high school senior or continuing student from San Mateo High School who will be enrolled as full time or part time and demonstrates financial need with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Special consideration will be given to a student who is the first in his/her family to attend college and has participated in athletic activities.

This scholarship was established in 1998 and is for one or more students entering or continuing at CSM as nontraditional majors in Computer and Information Science. The students shall have demonstrated financial need and a GPA of at least 3.0 in high school or college, and they shall be residents of San Mateo County.

This fund is for two scholarships for students at CSM. One scholarship is for a student completing his or her first year, majoring in Business, with at least a 3.0 GPA. The student must be a U.S. citizen, and membership in Alpha Gamma Sigma is desirable. The second scholarship is for a student completing his or her second year, majoring or minoring in Real Estate (or, if no such student is available, in Business), with at least a 3.0 GPA. Students must be a U.S. citizen, and membership in Alpha Gamma Sigma is desirable.

This scholarship is for a full time student who is new, continuing, or transferring. Preference will be given to a student who is an International student holding an F-1 Visa.

This scholarship is for incoming or continuing students at the College of CSM, special consideration given to U.S. citizens majoring or planning to major in a profession or trade (such as, but not limited to, aeronautics, welding, plumbing, nursing, and dental programs). Students must show academic merit and an expressed financial need.

This is scholarship for CSM students on the basis of financial need and academic merit. The students shall be incoming, continuing, or returning.

This fund was established by the children of Dave and Gundi McKean. This scholarship is for students at Skyline and College of San Mateo with a major or career track focus on the following: Performing Arts, Fine Arts, ESL, and Education.

Preference given to widowed or divorced female students in the CSM Re-entry Program. Students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA, a financial need and must be majoring in a subject leading towards a career.

To be eligible to apply, a student must meet the following requirements: 1. Be a full or part-time student at the College of San Mateo who has completed at least 18 units of graded college classes by January 31st. 2. Be enrolled in a major, certificate, AA/AS degree, or transfer program of courses that requires at least 48 units of college classes, including general education requirements. 3. Have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. 4. Prove financial need. 5. Complete at least 12 units at CSM during the current academic year in which student is applying for scholarship.

This Scholarship is to benefit two students at the College of San Mateo, incoming freshman (high school student and one continuing student (or transferring from the College of San Mateo onto a four year institution). The recipients must major in Education, with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and they must also intend to go into Teaching.

Named in honor of the two founders of EIMAC, this scholarship is for a CSM student.

Named after a long-time Trustee of the District, this scholarship is to be rotated annually among the District’s three colleges. Student must demonstrate an avowed interest in education with intent to enter into the teaching profession. Student must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA.

This scholarship is made in the name of Elizabeth Rose Miller, who was a graduate of the San Mateo County Community College District in English. She was a published author of the American Revolution as seen by the British newspapers. She was also the Head Librarian at both the Redwood City Tribune and the Palo Alto Times newspapers. The annual stipend should be given to a student with a minimum GPA of 3.5, who is also a full time student who will be transferring to a 4-yeart academic institution for an AB or BA degree in Journalism or English! This student should also be involved in both Extra Curricular Activities and Volunteer Services.

This scholarship is for students taking a foreign language or international or immigrant students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00, with financial need and demonstrated service to the community. Students should have completed at least two courses offered by the Language Arts Division.

This scholarship fund is for graduating high school seniors from the public high schools in the CSM service area. The student must have at least a cumulative high school GPA of 2.50. The student must be or have been involved in leadership and/or service in the high school and/or the community. This leadership or service should be characterized by positive activities outside of class which benefit others, particularly leadership or service that advances greater cultural and ethnic understanding. Preference should be given to a student with demonstrated financial need which shows that without the assistance of a scholarship the student might not otherwise be able to attend CSM. Each high school will select one student.

The Honoring Mothers Memorial Scholarship is for a continuing student with a minimum GPA of 2.7. Applicants must be a re-entry student. ONE TIME AWARD FOR CSM.

This scholarship is for a CSM Horticulture major transferring to a four-year degree-granting institution in Horticulture.

This scholarship is for continuing students at CSM who are studying Mathematics and/or Engineering.

This scholarship is for a CSM student who is majoring in Broadcast Engineering and has a minimum 2.75 GPA in major for the duration of his/her support period. Student must be in need of financial assistance.

This is an award for students based first on need followed by academic excellence. Special consideration given to international students, students with international experience, exchange experience.

This scholarship is for one or more Nursing majors who have completed a minimum of 9 units and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The scholarship is for the Nursing students who best exemplify the true spirit of nursing.

This scholarship is for a CSM student, in particular for a Creative Arts Division art student, with priority given to those majoring in either Floristry or Interior Design. The student must be seriously contemplating a career in these fields. 2.75 GPA. The student must be recommended by a committee of faculty from the Division. The student must have demonstrated a clear indication of artistic talent and an esthetic mind, must possess fine artistic skills, must have high potential for artistic achievement, and must have a real desire to learn and excel in his or her chosen endeavor.

These finds are for students whose ultimate goal is becoming a paramedic. The criteria of the scholarship is intended for students enrolled in CSM’s EMT program who then plan to transfer to another institution and enroll in that institution’s paramedic program. Funding is also to be provided for the duration of that student’s full-time enrollment at that paramedic program in an amount commensurate with the cost of attending a paramedic program at a California public college.

This scholarship opportunity benefits music students in the Performing Arts track enrolled specifically at CSM, and would be based upon financial need; final selection(s) of recipients would be made by an established Scholarship Committee of Don Carlson, Susanna Stevens and Alisa Clancy.

The scholarship is from the estate of Jean Letsinger to be used for an endowed fund to benefit low-income students pursuing a career in teaching.

In the tradition of CSM Professor Joe McDonough’s social activism and AFT 1493 Union work, this scholarship is aimed at SMCCCD students who are actively involved in the fight for social justice. Applicants must demonstrate involvement in an organization working to achieve social justice, helping to create a just society. This activity can be through a campus organization or club, or a community group/organization. Examples include (but are not limited to): BSU, Black Lives Matter, DREAMER/DACA, LGBT rights, Third World student groups, anti-death penalty, global justice, disability rights, environmental work and racism, to name just a few. Recipients of the Ken Hamilton and Jessica Diane Memorial Scholarship must be in a Liberal Arts or Creative Arts field and have financial need. The student should have a minimum GPA of 2.75, should be a full-time student and can be a graduating high school senior, continuing student or transfer student. This scholarship is in memory of Ken Hamilton who was raised in the Bay Area and graduated from Aragon High School in 1991 and was a D.J. on KFJC 89.7 FM. Sadly, the family lost their dear family friend Jessica Diane in 2009. Jessica was one of the scholarship’s most committed supporters and she requested that those who wanted to honor her memory do so by contributing here. Jessica’s motto was “live with passion, love deeply, laugh out loud.” Anyone who was lucky enough to know her experienced this joy for life firsthand.

This is for two scholarships: One student transferring to a four-year institution with 56 transferable units who has contributed to an athletic program and has financial need; and for one returning student who has completed 24 units and contributed to an athletic program as a freshman, with one year of eligibility remaining, who has financial need.

This scholarship was established in memory of long-time College of San Mateo political science professor, Kern Richmond. Eligibility includes a 3.30 GPA, economic need, and high academic and professional promise. Recipients must seek careers in college teaching in one of the social sciences or college counseling, or in careers in non-profit and humane organizations, or in organizations that promote and protect civil liberties and civil rights. Renewable through undergraduate years providing the student undertakes a full program of courses that would be transferable to a University of California campus or comparable institution.

This is a fund for honoraria for CSM students who do outstanding design work, including cover designs for the class schedule.

Named in memory of a long-time teacher and artist, this CSM scholarship is for a student with a GPA of 4.0 in film with an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher, who has completed Film 461 and Film 462 and is a declared Film major planning to continue in Film at an institution of higher learning.

Special consideration will be given to those students enrolled in insurance-specific classes at CSM. Students may be continuing or transferring.

This fund is for a scholarship to be granted annually to a student who is working toward an Associate•À_s Degree with the intention of pursuing a four-year degree in his or her field of study. The minimum GPA is 2.75. Must have a financial need.

This fund shall be for scholarships for two students entering or continuing in the CSM Nursing Program who meet the following requirements: 1. They must be San Mateo County residents. 2. They must have a demonstrated financial need (that is, be unable to afford a college education).

This scholarship is for 1 (one) high school graduate from each of the nine (9) public high schools in the service area (Aragon, Burlingame, Capuchino, Carlmont, Half Moon Bay, Hillsdale, Mills, Peninsula and San Mateo). The student must have at least a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.50 and demonstrate potential promise as a college student and financial need. Special consideration for applicants invovled in Hispanic culture and ethnicity. Each high school will select the scholarship recipient.

The Marlene V. Carder-Jobaris Scholarship is for students with financial need at CSM attempting career tracks in studying broadcast and electronic media. This scholarship is for a student who is full time, part time, new, re-entry, continuing, or transferring with a minimum GPA of 2.5, has unmet financial need, is a US Citizen and intends to transfer to a four year university after completing their educational program at CSM.

This scholarship fund is for the San Mateo School of Nursing. The recipient should be a full or part time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is based on merit and demonstrated financial need. The recipient(s) should show a promise of success in the Nursing Program at College of San Mateo and Canada College.

This scholarship is for assisting two or more students in Horticulture, Floriculture, or Pre-Pharmacy, with preference in that order, to obtain an education at CSM and cover expenses while doing so. Criteria shall be scholarship, character, financial need, student activities, and promise of growth and success of the applicant.

The Orozco and Yoshimura Scholarship Fund was established to honor the retirement of professors Yoshimura and Orozco. Each student must be a current EOPS student in good standing and have a 2.50 GPA minimum. Special consideration will be given to students with an economic disadvantage, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and/or community service, and ability to overcome socio-economic adversity. Two of these scholarships are for students reported by the EOPS club as eligible.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide scholarship support to those students showing financial need and who indicate that they are planning to transfer to a 4-year institution following their time at SMCCCD. The students Educational Plan shall reflect that they are planning to transfer to a 4-year university. This scholarship includes a mentorship component. Students are required to meet with the donor once a semester. The Foundation in consultation with the donor will work together to ensure the student meets with the donor.

This scholarship is available to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA with preference to Business majors who are new or continuing students at SMCCCD.

Preference given to one or more single parents who have custody of children and who are entering CSM and are residents of San Mateo County.

For a continuing student with minimum cumulative GPA 2.75 and financial need. Can be a full time or part time student who actively participates in the student government in CSM.

This scholarship is for a student who is a former foster youth who will be either Full-time or Part-time and either a New, Returning or Continuing student with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and shows Financial Need.

This fund is for scholarships for CSM students who are learning-disabled and receive services through the Disabled Student Services Program. They must be re-entry students with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. The Scholarship Committee will make the selection.

The award is made in memory of Paul M. Dierkes who was known locally as the ‘guy on Parrot Drive with a fire engine in his garage’ and is funded through the generosity of his family and friends. This scholarship is for a fire technology student who plans a career in fire fighting and rescue, is in good academic standing, actively participates in the community and has financial need.

Must be full time or continuing students or graduating high school seniors with demonstrated financial need. Required G.P.A. is 2.5 or higher.

Recipients of the award must have an academic goal to obtain a Certificate or Associate of Science Degree in Building Inspection Technology, articulate a career goal to pursue employment related to code enforcement or related construction activities, and provide current employment information that would demonstrate a general understanding of the applicant’s need.

This scholarship is for a continuing student. The student should be attending as close to full time as possible. The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The President of CSM will select the recipient. Preference is given to first member in immediate family to attend college.

This scholarship is for San Mateo County Community College District students who show promise for success in college with demonstrated financial need.

The Project Change Scholarship was established by Tom Bauer. This scholarship is for a student who illustrates commitment to social service both on campus and in the community. Has engaged regularly in student leadership opportunities and is an active member of the Project Change learning community. Has a GPA of 3.0 or higher and plans to transfer to a four year university.

This scholarship is for recipients selected by the CSM Scholarship Committee primarily on the basis of financial need (as determined by eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant or similar financial aid program), but each applicant must also (1) possess a GPA of 2.5 or better; (2) be a continuing student at CSM or a high school senior who is planning to attend CSM during the academic year in which the scholarship will be paid; and (3) agree, as a condition of receipt of the scholarship, to maintain a load of 12 units or more at CSM during each of the two semesters covered by the scholarship.

This scholarship is for a CSM student who is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces and is transferring to a four-year college with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Special consideration for male veterans.

This scholarship is for students who have been San Mateo City residents for one year and who have attended a high school in the City of San Mateo. Athletic prowess is not to be a criterion, but any other qualifications set by the committee will be satisfactory. A different, deserving, student in need should be the recipient each year.

This scholarship is awarded to a CSM student who is a resident of San Mateo County, enrolled as a full-time student at CSM, a graduate of the Sequoia High School District or a former Sequoia High School District student and GED recipient, involved in African-American cultural activities on campus or in the community, not otherwise financially able to attend school full-time, and a science or engineering student intending to continue his/her education at a California public university.

This scholarship is for incoming or continuing students at the College of CSM, special consideration given to U.S. citizens majoring or planning to major in a profession or trade (such as, but not limited to, aeronautics, welding, plumbing, nursing, and dental programs). Students must show academic merit and financial need.

This scholarship will pay for tuition for 1 to 3 units a semester for students who have successfully completed a BIOL 690 project in Molecular Biology at Skyline College and who are going to take a 690 class at Skyline College
