Students awarded any of the below recognition awards from the College Board will be eligible to apply and compete for a scholarship from FIU equal to full tuition, fees, books, and a $1,000 meal plan stipend per semester. The FGLSAMP Scholarship program at FIU provides scholarships in the amount of $1,050 per term, Fall and Spring, totaling $2,100 per year up to 5 years, ending once they graduate. Scholarship recipients are required to be active members of research labs, attend professional development workshops, complete progress reports, and do an oral or poster presentation at the annual FGLSAMP EXPO or another conference of their choice. Eligible students must be a fully admitted undergraduate student at FIU majoring in: Electrical Eng, Civil Eng, Mechanical Eng, Environmental Eng, Computer Eng, Biomedical Eng, Computer Science/Technology, Information Technology, Chemistry, Math, Statistics, Physics, Biology, or Geology. Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (proof of residency required) Must have a G.P.A. of 2.8 or higher Must be a fully admitted, first-time undergraduate at FIU, and registered for full-time (12 credits minimum) each Fall and Spring term. Must apply for FAFSA and qualify for Financial Aid at FIU each year while in the program Must be following the curriculum for the chosen (STEM) major Recipient must provide academic information to the program coordinator on request, to show the student progress while in the program. Scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled full-time at Florida International University School of Nursing. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Due date and number of awards may vary. Undergraduate students will receive $25,000, graduate students will receive $15,000. THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS FOR BROWARD COLLEGE – VIETNAM TRANSFER STUDENTS ADMITTED TO THE UNDERGRADUATE HOSPITALITY PROGRAM BEGINNING IN SPRING 2023. Miami Association of Realtors Scholarship The Miami Association of Realtors Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 based upon availability for students affiliated with Miami Realtors who have been recently admitted into the MSIRE program. In order to be considered for the scholarship, the prospective students must be a member in good standing of Miami Realtors at the time of the application. ULI Scholarship The ULI Chapman Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 based upon availability for students affiliated with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Southeast Florida/Caribbean District Council and have been recently admitted into the MSIRE program. In order to be considered for the scholarship, the prospective student must be a member in good standing of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Southeast Florida/Caribbean District Council at the time of application. ICSC Scholarship The ICSC Chapman Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 based upon availability for students affiliated with the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In order to be considered for the scholarship, the prospective student must be a member in good standing of International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) at the time of application. All scholarships are subject to change, are competitively merit-based and subject to availability. Additionally, applicants must be admitted into the Spring (January) 2023 start term of the MS in International Real Estate program.

Scholarship of up to $2,500 based upon availability is made available by the Jerome Bain Endowed Scholarship Fund. The award is based on competitive merit and will be selected from prospective students that have applied and have been admitted to the MSIRE Program for Spring (January) 2023.

NEWH South Florida Chapter is awarding scholarships up to $20,000 to students pursuing a major and career objective within the Hospitality Industry (interior design, hospitality management, culinary, architecture, etc.). The Stempel Travel Scholarship provides support to graduate students in FIU Stempel College to attend virtual conferences, scientific meetings or workshops to present papers, posters or for their participation in professional development workshops. Graduate students (master’s or PhD) in the College’s four programs, dietetics and nutrition, public health, social work and disaster management, may apply. Awards will be based on the quality of the paper or poster, the applicant’s response to the questionnaire on academic works, the faculty member’s letter of support, quality of the scientific conference or meeting/workshop, and adequate progress by the candidate toward completion of the degree. A total of 5 Stempel Travel scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester. The amount of $750 will be awarded if the event requires travel and $500 will be awarded if the event is held virtually. Criteria: • Must be a graduate student in the college (master’s or PhD) • Applicant must have submitted an abstract; have had an abstract accepted for presentation at a conference or meeting; or must have applied and been accepted to attend a workshop for professional development. • Students who are presenting can only apply if the abstract has been accepted. • Stempel College graduate students are eligible to apply for up to one travel award per academic year. • Priority will be given to students who are traveling in the semester in which the award is disbursed. Application materials: Applicant Statement The application must include a statement from you that includes the following: statement of professional purpose; research interests and goals for a career in your academic discipline; how the conference or meeting fits in the scope of your presentation; description of the research that you will be presenting and the contribution of the research to your discipline; your contribution to the research and writing of the paper or poster; relevance of the abstract/presentation/workshop and how it aligns with your professional goals; how the funding will help you achieve those goals. For professional development, include a statement of professional purpose; research interests and goals for a career in your academic discipline; relevance of the professional development event and how it aligns with your professional goals; what you will be doing at the event and what skills you will gain or learn that relate to your field; how the funding will help you achieve those goals. We highly recommend including an agenda for the event. Submission or Acceptance Notification The application must include a copy of the paper or poster to be presented. The application must include a copy of the letter or email regarding acceptance of the manuscript/abstract or poster for presentation. If you are attending a professional development event, please include a copy of the registration and/or email confirmation that you registered. Faculty Letter of Support The application must include a letter of support from a member of College’s faculty familiar with your work. The faculty member’s letter must detail your progress toward completing the degree, an evaluation of the quality of the paper or poster to be presented, your role in the research and development of the paper or poster presentation, and the relevance of the workshop or presentation as it aligns with your professional enhancement. Post-Award Process • Students must submit an appropriate photo to include with application. No selfies, please. • Student must provide name of faculty advisor/mentor. • Brief bio, notable achievements, etc. • Thank you note to the donor will be appreciated.

Each semester, graduating FIU Honors College students are given the opportunity to apply for the Pérez Excellence Award to advance their education after graduation. A one-time award of $10,000 is given to a student who has excelled academically, to gain more knowledge through postgraduate education experiences in order to make a difference in the South Florida community. Deadline for Spring 2022 graduates is April 1. Required Materials: 1. Current resume/CV 2. Essay about the following: The purpose of the FIU Honors College is to educate, prepare, and motivate tomorrow’s leaders who generate value. What trials did you encounter and what knowledge did you acquire to generate value? How do you plan to use this talent or value to change South Florida? How do you envision creating a better city and state? How will your FIU education allow you to accomplish your goals and make a difference? What do you hope to accomplish with the funds, if you are the recipient of the $10,000 scholarship? How will you give back? 3. One-page statement: “Why do I deserve to receive the Jorge and Darlene Pérez Excellence Award?” 4. Letter of Recommendation from an FIU or Honors College Professor conveying leadership, service, integrity, etc. Requirements: Student must be a citizen of the United States, a U.S. lawful permanent resident or an international student on an aid eligible visa. Student must be an FIU Honors College student. Student will be asked to meet for an informal meet and greet with FIU staff and donors a year after graduation to share how the funds impacted their life after graduation. The Travis W. Watkins Tax Resolution & Accounting Firm Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award for any current or soon-to-be student who has had his or her family’s life altered because of tax controversies (back taxes owed, audits, etc.). The Travis W. Watkins Scholarship has a brief and 100% confidential submission process, and applicants will be judged on their ability to convey the importance of tax compliance as well as the journey of those challenges (including the impact of professional tax representation or lack of representation on the outcome). Students applying must submit an essay where you explain, present, inspire, or otherwise convince us as to why you deserve to win this scholarship. There are no conditions or requirements for this essay. Please keep submissions to 5 paragraphs and 600 words at the absolute maximum. This is not a standardized test. While spelling, punctuation, and general cohesiveness will make your essay easier to read; and therefore judge, you are not being graded. The winning submission will be one which clearly conveys a non-fictional story of your life or someone that you know before and after an IRS or OK Tax Commission setback. Established in loving memory of Alexa M. Duran, the Alexa M. Duran Memorial First Generation Scholarship is awarded to First Generation students at FIU. Eligibility Requirements Recipients must demonstrate financial need by completing the national Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be eligible for a Pell Grant. Recipients must be the first generation in their family to attain a college bachelor’s degree (students whose siblings have attained or are pursuing a degree are also eligible). Recipients must be residents of the state of Florida. This scholarship provides funds to the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work in support of undergraduate, social work students as they complete their BSSW. This is both a merit-based and financial need scholarship intended to provide a unique learning experience for students in the School of Social Work. As part of the scholarship requirements, recipients will be required to serve as a mentor(s) in a Take Stock in Children (TSC) program participating school. Schools in the Take Stock in Children program may be in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties. Scholarship recipients will be required to participate in the mentoring program for one hour per week or a minimum of 20 hours over the course of the two-semester academic year. This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Welker Mitchell by providing funding for MSW students who demonstrate financial need as well as a high level of commitment to the field of social work through their academic achievement and community engagement. Dr. Welker was a two-time FIU alumnus, obtaining both his MSW and Ph.D. in Social Welfare from the School of Social Work. He held a number of positions including Director of the Professional Development Center, Assistant Dean in CHUA, Associate Director for Social Work, and after his retirement, he returned to a teaching position in Social Work as Visiting and then Clinical Instructor. Applicants must be fully admitted into the MSW program for the semester during which the scholarship is awarded. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need as well as high commitment to the field of social work through academic achievement and community engagement. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for 15 – 24 years olds. According to the U.S. government, 3,154 people were killed and approximately 424,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2013. The actual number of accidents due to distracted driving were likely much higher. It is not debatable whether distracted driving is a public safety problem; it is. The problem is particularly pervasive among young drivers. We must find a way to stop distracted driving. The first step towards changing any behavioral change is to admit that a problem exists. Many of us criticize others for their distracted driving habits, but how many of us are willing to look inward to examine our own choices behind the wheel? Overview We are asking students to write an essay of at least 500 words detailing their most common distracted driving habits, and to describe the concrete steps they will take to put an end to those habits. This award is aptly named after one of the many amazing immigrants to this country, Nargis E. Ragab. She is the mother of one of our partners, Amany Ragab Hacking. Nargis came to this country from El Mansura, Egypt in 1979 in search of a better life. She came with three children, four suitcases and not much else. Having sold her gold and other prized possessions so she could buy four tickets to America, there was not much money left over. When she came to America, she struggled to raise her children, find work and assimilate. All of her children graduated from college, married, had children of their own and contributed to their life in America by working, voting and being active members of their communities. She loves this country and loves immigrants. She wants us all to persevere and succeed. It is this hard work, tenacity and love of immigrants that bring this scholarship to life. Scholarship Eligibility All students interested in applying for The Nargis Ragab Scholarship for First Generation Immigrants and the Children of Immigrants must meet the following eligibility requirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an two-year or four-year degree program at an accredited college or university in the United States. High school seniors who will be graduating on or before the scholarship deadline are also eligible to apply as long as they are enrolled to attend an accredited college or university in the United States in the upcoming fall. Applicants must currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The FIU Ukraine Conflict Response Task Force has established a fund to provide scholarships and stipends for Ukrainian students at FIU who have been impacted by Russia’s war on invasion of Ukraine. Must be a Ukrainian student studying in the United States on an F-1/J-1 or F-2/J-2 visa. Must be enrolled for studies during the 2022-23 academic year and pursuing an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree. Must demonstrate the financial hardship that they are facing as a result of the war against Ukraine. Funding is limited and not guaranteed. Award will be for the Fall 2022 term. Undergraduate Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program The McNair Scholars Program is a Federal TRIO program designed to prepare first-generation undergraduate students for doctoral studies. The Program supports students from historically underrepresented groups who have a documented financial need and major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Psychology. McNair Scholars engage in courses, seminars, and workshops related to graduate school preparation and professional development. Scholars are also compensated as they conduct summer research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Students then have the opportunity to present their research at local, regional, or national conferences. The McNair Program staff works closely with students as they complete their undergraduate requirements and graduate school applications. Eligibility Criteria Applicants qualify to apply to the McNair Program if they Intend to pursue a Ph.D. (professional degrees such as an MD, JD, MBA, PharmD, etc. are not eligible) Are US citizen or US permanent resident Are rising juniors or rising seniors by Summer 2022 term and have completed a minimum 60 credits of undergraduate courses by the time of the start of their Summer Research Project/Internship. Major in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Psychology, or Math (STEM) degree program. STEM Minors considered with STEM-based research. William C. Adams was one of the School of Mass Communication & Journalism (now called the School of Communication + Journalism (SCJ)) best-loved and well-respected public relations professors. After a lengthy career in public relations and in education, he passed away in 2003. This scholarship was established in his memory. Awarded for Spring 2023.
