Scholarships at Eastern Illinois University

This is a tuition waiver to provide financial assistance to students with academic talent or special status; fees are not waived. The following criteria must be met: Undergraduate Students: 1. The recipient(s) must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00, or 3.00 GPA in high school, admitted to Communication Studies. 2. The recipient(s) shall demonstrate proficiency of some unique talent or skill that can benefit the department. OR The recipient(s) shall participate in a University or department priority activity. OR The recipient(s) shall be selected by a faculty panel to receive a scholarship or other award. OR The recipient(s) shall have won or placed in a departmentally sponsored contest. 3. The recipient(s) must provide: - Three letters of reference from individuals outside of the Communication Studies department who can attest to a student’s academic abilities. OR - One letter of recommendation authored by a departmental faculty. Graduate Students: 1. The recipient(s) must be a Graduate student admitted to/enrolled in one of the CMN graduate programs: Communication & Leadership Communication Processes Communication Studies Communication Pedagogy 2. The recipient(s) must be a Full-time student. (9+ hours as a Graduate student). 3. The recipient(s) must maintain a 3.0 graduate GPA (after the first semester). 4. The recipient(s) shall demonstrate proficiency of some unique talent or skill that can benefit the department. OR The recipient(s) shall participate in a University or department priority activity. OR The recipient(s) shall be selected by a faculty panel to receive a scholarship or other award. OR The recipient(s) shall have won or placed in a departmentally sponsored contest. According to EIU’s Internal Governing Policy #73, this award is a “Tuition waiver to provide financial assistance to students with academic talent or special status; fees are not waived.” Therefore, students who already have a full tuition waiver or have no room in their financial aid package for tuition assistance are not eligible to receive this award.

This is a tuition only award. In order to apply, a student must meet and agree to the following criteria: Incoming freshmen/transfer students: • Officially enrolled as a full-time student at the time of the award • Remain in good academic standing • Agree to the following: Once on campus, I will demonstrate my intention to pursue a career in journalism by: 1) Active participation in one or more of the student media programs, OR 2) Participation in co-curricular programs affiliated with the department of Journalism, OR 3) Working part-time in a professional situation • Agree to the following: —I understand that this award may be rescinded if I fail to maintain good academic standing or withdraw from the University, AND —I understand that this award may be rescinded if I do not comply with the “Student Conduct Code,” AND —I understand that this award may be rescinded if I fail to meet advisor requirements. The Talented Student Award is open to students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in art with a minimum 2.0 GPA to be considered for this full-tuition award. A portfolio is required.

The Alexander Hamilton Award in American History is open to undergraduate students attending or accepted at Eastern Illinois University. To be considered, you must write an undergraduate paper on American history for a course offered by a member of the history department.

The American Marketing Association Award is open to students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be a full-time senior marketing major in good standing. This award is issued in the spring semester.

The Anne Frank Award is available to undergraduate students attending Eastern Illinois University. In order to be considered, you must write an undergraduate paper on the Holocaust for a course offered by a member of the history department. You must also be a student in good standing.

The Ardath Louise Fogelsanger History Scholarship is open to junior history majors at Eastern Illinois University. You must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full time to be eligible for this award.

The Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship is available to full - time business students at Eastern Illinois University. You must have completed at least 30 credit hours and be a member in good standing of EIU's Beta Gamma Sigma chapter.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient must be a full-time graduate student of the Biological Sciences Masters program at Eastern Illinois University in good academic standing. 2. The recipient must be a member of BSGSA and be in good standing with the organization according to the BSGSA constitution. 3. Financial need is not a consideration, the award is merit-based. 4. The recipient must have submitted a study plan and thesis outline or provide documentation of a past or future internship, according to the applicants selected Biological Sciences Masters option. 5. A first-year or second-year graduate student of the Biological Sciences Masters program at EIU may apply however precedence shall be given to first-year graduate students enrolled in the program. 6. Eligibility will be based on merit pertaining to involvement in the BSGSA, scholarly or research activities and departmental or campus involvement. Involvement in the BSGSA includes, but is not limited to, assistance in lab manual sales, BSGSA hosted events, and participation in philanthropic activities. 7. The applicant must submit a completed application form, a Curriculum Vitae/resume, and letter of support from a faculty advisor. 8. The applicant must submit a summary of no more than 250 words discussing the need of money and/or the applicant’s achievements. 9. The applicant must submit a projected budget for the use of the funds. This award is announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Spring.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient must be an persistent member of the EIU Campus Democrats (RSO) with a record of involvement in that organization as well as in the local Democratic party and some combination of community and university service. 2. The recipient must be a full-time student enrolled at EIU as a sophomore, junior, or senior with a GPA of 2.8 or higher. 3. Financial need is not a consideration and the recipient may receive the award more than once if he/she continues to meet criteria. 4. The recipient must apply for the award through the prescribed application process, which will include a requirement for providing two letters of recommendation. 5. The award shall be announced in the Fall and paid in the Spring.

For incoming freshmen who participated in Boys or Girls State Program at EIU. Requires letter of reference from principal. Full description: The following criteria must be met: Available to incoming freshmen, male and female, who participated in the “Boys/Girls” State Program at EIU during the summer season. The winning recipients must be planning to attend EIU during their freshman year in the fall term. The award amount is $1,500 per scholarship and it will show as a credit to the student’s university account for the academic year. This scholarship is non-renewable. This application form, accompanied with a letter of reference from the student’s school principal. This award is announced in the Summer or Fall previous to the Fall and Spring in which the award pays.

The Brankey Scholarship is available to entering freshmen at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in business to be eligible for this award.

The following criteria must be met: 1. Recipient(s) must be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Career and Technical Education (with an emphasis in Business Education), Special Education, and/or Recreation Administration accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must be from Charleston High School with preference given to incoming freshmen. If no incoming freshmen qualify, then a previous undergraduate recipient who continues to meet the criteria may be awarded the scholarship. 3. The recipient must have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA on high school or college coursework. 4. Financial need is not a consideration. Award shall be announced in the Fall and paid in the Spring.

Established by Jack and Bethina Schultz in memory of Carl P. Koerner Jr., who served as a member of the EIU Board of Trustees, the Koerner Scholarship advances the University’s mission of global citizenship. The award is presented annually to an academically talented international student in a degree program at Eastern Illinois University. The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient must be an international student accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for and receive the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated above. 3. Required essay: Describe a personal experience that highlights the importance of international education at Eastern Illinois University. (400-500 words) This award shall be announced in the Fall semester and paid the following Spring semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a graduate student(s), working towards certification in or a masters degree in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle-Level Education, and accepted to EIU. 2. The recipient(s) must be a non-traditional student, at least 25 years old. 3. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student at EIU. 4. Financial need is a consideration. 5. The recipient(s) shall be eligible to receive the award one time only. This award is announced in the Fall and disbursed in the Spring

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be studying Dietetics or if none are qualified, studying Food and Nutrition. 2. The recipient(s) must be of high moral standing. 3. Financial need will be a consideration. 4. The recipient(s) must have a G.P.A. of 3.5/4.0. 5. The recipient(s) must be a graduate student. 6. The recipient(s) with no other scholarships must get first consideration. This award will be announced in Fall or Spring semester and paid the following Spring or Fall.

For juniors, seniors, and graduate students majoring in Career and Technical Education (preferably Technology Education), planning to teach. Full description: The following criteria must be met: The recipient must be a student in good academic standing at Eastern Illinois University and classified, according to the University catalog, as a junior, senior, or graduate student. The candidate must have a declared major in Career and Technical Education with emphasis in Technology Education. a. Only if there is no qualified Career and Technical Education with an emphasis in Technology Education applicant, then the recipient must be an undergraduate student or graduate student majoring in one of the technology-related majors offered by the School of Technology accepted to Eastern Illinois University, who plans to pursue a career in technical education (e.g. high schools, vocational centers, community college, universities). Financial need shall not be considered by the Committee in the selection of the recipient unless all other factors are determined to be equal. Other reasonable criteria not contrary to the above revisions may be established by the Committee, except that no criterion may be specific grade-point average and no criterion may be such as to discriminate against any candidate. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet criteria. This award shall be announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student, majoring in education (Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle-Level Education or Secondary Education), accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must be in academic good standing. 3. For the first ten years, the award(s) is to go to a graduate of Unity High School in Tolono, Illinois or Massac City High School in Metropolis, Illinois, or Nokomis High School in Nokomis, Illinois. After ten years, the award(s) may go to a graduate of any Illinois High School. 4. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for and receive the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated above. This award is to be paid in the Fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Biological Sciences at Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must be at least a junior with an overall GPA of at least 3.0. 3. The recipient(s) must use the award to travel to the tropics for studies in tropical biology 4. The recipient(s) must display financial need for the award. 5. The recipient(s) must complete a written application for the award. 6. The recipient(s) may receive the award no more than twice. This award is announced and awarded in the Spring semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time junior or senior student, majoring in Biological Sciences at EIU. 2. The recipient(s) must have chosen the Teacher Certification option or the Botanical Sciences concentration within the Biological Sciences option. 3. The recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0. 4. The recipient(s) should reflect high pedagogical and humanistic traits and values such as those expressed by Ernest L. Stover toward his students during his tenure at the EIU Department of Botany. Specifically, the recipient(s) should exhibit enthusiasm for the study of Botany, dedication to sharing his/her knowledge freely, and willingness to encourage and support others in their intellectual pursuits. 5. The recipient(s) must complete a brief written application for the award in which his/her financial need is demonstrated. 6. The recipient(s) may receive the award only once. This award is announced and awarded in the Spring semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must demonstrate a strong presence in at least one student activity in any of the following areas: Student Government, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, the arts, music, drama, the sciences, and business. 3. The recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above. 4. The recipient(s) must demonstrate financial need. 5. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for and receive the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated above. 6. This award is announced and awarded in the fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student accepted to Eastern Illinois University majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences studying Hospitality Management. 2. Must be in good academic standing. 3. Financial need is not a consideration. 4. The recipient(s) may apply and receive the scholarship one additional time provided he/she continues to meet all the criteria herein. 5. The award shall be announced in the Fall semester and paid in the Spring semester. 4. Recipient(s) shall be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award one additional time provided she/he continues to meet the criteria stated above since first receiving the award.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Special Education, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. Financial need is a consideration 3. The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. 4. The recipient(s) must submit an essay that illustrates how working with students with special needs has impacted the recipient(s) and how they hope to impact students with special needs through education. 5. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award again provided she/he continues to meet the criteria stated above. This award is paid in the Spring Semester.

For juniors/seniors in Career and Technical Education (Business Education), whose employment covers half of college costs. Requires 3.3 GPA. Full description: The following criteria must be met: It is to be awarded to a Junior or Senior Career and Technical Education major with a Business Education emphasis in good standing with an overall grade-point average of at least 3.3. The scholarship is to be awarded to a Career and Technical Education major with a Business Education emphasis who contributes at least half of the cost of his/her university education through his/her own employment. Eighty percent (80%) of the annual proceeds from the interest on the corpus of the scholarship are to be used for tuition, fees, and books. Twenty percent (20%) is to be returned to the corpus. This award is announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall.

For junior or senior transfer students majoring in Psychology and planning to teach. Requires an essay, 3.0 GPA, and Associate Degree. Full description: The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time junior or senior student, majoring in Psychology, and accepted in good standing to EIU. 2. The recipient(s) must have a minimum GPA of 3.00, which includes all academic work taken at the college level. 3. The recipient(s) must be a transfer student with an Associate Degree. 4. The recipient(s) must have an interest in pursuing a career in education at any level. 5. Writing ability is a consideration. The application process will include writing an essay. The recipients may be eligible to apply for and receive the award again provided they continue to meet the criteria stated above. This award will be announced in the Fall semester and disbursed in the Fall and Spring semester.

The Dean Giffin Award is available to seniors at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in business to be eligible for this award. Applicants are nominated by faculty.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Biological Sciences, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. The award may be made to a student completing their freshman year of school through graduate school. 2. Financial need is a consideration. 3. The recipient shall have a goal of working in the field of fish or wildlife or plant management. This award is to be announced and awarded in the Spring semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. Prospective graduate students must have high potential as graduate students and will be evaluated on the quality of their graduate application. 2. Continuing graduate students must have a minimum of 3.5 GPA, with at least 9 credit hours of coursework in the M.A. in Political Science, and must submit one letter of support from a Political Science faculty member in the department. 3. The recipient(s) may not hold a graduate assistantship. 4. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated herein. This opportunity is announced in the Fall and disbursed in the Spring.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Education, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must have a GPA in the top quartile in the College of Education and Professional Studies. 3. The recipient(s) must be involved in College and Departmental activities. 4. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for and receive the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated above. This award shall be paid in the Fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The scholarship recipient shall be a full-time student majoring in Health Promotions and Nutrition* with an option of Apparel & Textile Design, Consumer Studies, Merchandising or Hospitality Management. 2. The recipient must be accepted to Eastern Illinois University and have achieved Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status at the time of application. 3. Preference should be given to a deserving student who is in good academic standing, involved in campus extra-curricular activities as demonstrated by membership in Greek organizations, academic organizations, athletic teams, or recognized student organizations. Recipients may be eligible to receive the award again provided they meet the criteria. For Career and Technical Education (Business Emphasis) majors in Delta Chi Fraternity or Phi Beta Lambda. Requires 3.0 GPA. Renewable. Full description: The following criteria must be met: The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Career and Technical Education with an emphasis in Business Education, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. The recipient(s) must be a member in good standing with the EIU Delta Chi Fraternity. The recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of 3.0. Financial need may be a consideration but is not a requirement. If no Delta Chi member qualifies, the criteria may be expanded to include qualifying Phi Beta Lambda members in good standing. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet criteria. This award shall be announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student at Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must be a declared major in Psychology. 3. The recipient(s) must be a Junior, Senior, or graduate student at the time of award. 4. The recipient(s) must work closely with Psychology faculty on research projects 5. Preference shall be given to the student(s) who is likely to publish an article or present a paper at a professional meeting in collaboration with Psychology faculty. This award will be announced and paid in the Fall Semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The award recipient shall be a Junior or Senior majoring in Pre-Medical Studies. 2. The recipient must show outstanding scholastic achievement, with a minimum of a “B” average 3. The recipient shall be a person of outstanding character whose actions and conduct reflect with credit upon EIU. 4. Financial need IS a consideration, but only after the number of recipients is reduced to three. This award is to be announced and paid in the Spring semester.

The E. Warner/L. Durham Presidential Award in Environmental Biology is available to junior and senior students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in environmental biology, have a minimum "B" average, and be a person of outstanding character to be eligible for this award.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The award recipient shall be a Junior or Senior majoring in the field of Biological Sciences with Environmental Biology option. 2. The recipient must show outstanding scholastic achievement, with a minimum of a “B” average 3. The recipient shall be a person of outstanding character whose actions and conduct reflect with credit upon EIU. 4. Financial need IS a consideration, but only after the number of recipients is reduced to three. This award shall be announced and disbursed in the Spring semester.

The Earl S. Dickerson Award is available to senior students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in accounting with a minimum 3.6 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time or part-time graduate student, majoring in Gerontology(Aging Studies), accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above. 3. The recipient(s) shall be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award again provided she/he continues to meet the criteria stated above and is selected by the committee. For General Studies majors (full- or part-time). Requires 2.0 GPA, 6 hours in BGS, essay; preferably from Chicago, surrounding IL counties. Full description: The following criteria must be met: The recipient(s) must be at least a part-time student majoring in the Bachelor of General Studies Program (BGS) and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. At the time of the award, the recipient(s) shall have completed at least 6 hours in the Bachelor of General Studies Program. Recipient(s) must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0. Financial need is not a consideration. Preference shall be given to applicants whose residence is Chicago or the surrounding area. The following criteria must be met: 1. The scholarship recipient shall be an undergraduate student at Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient shall be enrolled in a College of Health and Human Services (formerly Family and Consumer Sciences) program. 3. The Foster C. Rinefort Scholarship is available to MBA students at Eastern Illinois University. To be considered, you must be of good character, demonstrate academic promise and financial need.

The recipient(s) must be a Junior or Senior with a minimum of 60 credit hours and must have completed two semesters at Eastern Illinois University. 3. The recipient(s) must have a minimum 3.25 GPA in Psychology and a minimum overall 3.25 GPA. 4. The recipient(s) must be interested in pursuing a career working with children. 5. The application process will include writing an essay. 6. Financial need is a requirement. 7. Criteria for selection are as follows: 1. Must be a full-time student majoring in Education accepted to Eastern Illinois University. a. Established in 2012, this scholarship holds the following eligibility criteria: 1. The recipient must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at Eastern Illinois University and admitted to a teacher education program in the College of Education and Professional Studies. 2. The recipient must be in good academic standing at the time the award is issued with a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average out of 4.0. 4. The Keller Family Scholarship is open to students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be a junior or senior, a resident of a central Illinois county, demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. This award is issued in the spring only.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The Award recipient shall be an undergraduate majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or other fields related to Aquatic Ecology, doing supervised research, independent study, an internship, etc. in aquatic biology/ecology. 2. The annual award will be given to the authors (1 male, 1 female) of the top aquatic research papers submitted. 3. The recipient shall have superior research and writing skills, as seen in their final papers. This award shall be announced and paid in the Spring semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipients(s) must be a full-time student at Eastern Illinois University in a major leading to Teacher Certification and must be in good academic standing. In addition, recipients must have completed all requirements to become eligible to student teach and must be approved to student teach within the next 12 months after the award date. 2. Financial need is a consideration. This award has been established to offset the cost of student teaching expenses in order to overcome the financial barriers that exist on the way to becoming an excellent educator. 3. The application process for this scholarship shall include the submission by each applicant of a one-page essay outlining future educational and career plans. This essay should address how the applicant has overcome adversity, obstacles, or barriers in his/her life, and how he/she has experienced the impact of teaching in underserved populations prior to the application for this scholarship. 4. Within the essay in the above criteria, the recipient shall demonstrate a commitment to teaching underserved populations. Students may not be eligible to receive the award a second time. This award will be open for applications in both the fall and spring semester to disburse the following semester of which it was announced.

The following Criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be an undergraduate student majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly Family and Consumer Sciences: Dietetics Option) accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. Preference shall be given to a student with a Nutrition and Dietetics major (formerly Family and Consumer Sciences: Dietetics Option). 3. The recipient(s) must maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.75. 4. A brief statement must be included regarding the applicant’s campus and community involvement. 5. Financial need is a consideration. 6. Recipient(s) are eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated herein. The Lawrence and Emily Nichols Memorial Award is open to full-time students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in United States history or Latin American history and have a minimum 3.2 GPA. In addition, you must be of second semester, sophomore or junior class standing to be eligible for this award.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be an incoming freshman, incoming transfer student, or senior, accepted and registered at Eastern Illinois University as a full-time student, majoring in career and technical education. Once a recipient receives the award as an incoming freshman or incoming transfer student, a senior is eligible to apply for the award again provided that the recipient still meets the criteria. 2. The freshman recipient(s) must be in the top 20% of his/her high school graduating class. 3. The recipient(s) must submit an essay addressing the following: a. characteristics that a good teacher must have, b. why I want to be a teacher, and c. why I want to teach career and technical education specifically. 4. The transfer and/or senior recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of 2.65 to continue receiving the award. This award shall be announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. A minimum of two scholarships shall be awarded annually. One recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Career and Technical Education with an option in Technology Education, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. The second recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Engineering Technology, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. In the circumstance that there is not a qualified recipient in one of the majors above, then the committee may elect to award additional awards to the other major. 2. The recipient(s) must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours at Eastern Illinois University. 3. The recipient(s) must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. 4. The recipients must be a high school graduate of one of the following counties in Illinois; Coles, Effingham, Cumberland, Shelby, and Edgar. If there are no qualified applicants from the counties above, those students from surrounding counties will be considered. This award shall be announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall semester.

The following criteria must be met: 1. Nominations for the award shall be made under the procedures to be determined by the Committee. 2. The recipient must be a full-time student, majoring in Career and Technical Education with an emphasis in Technology Education. Only if there is no qualified Career and Technical Education with an emphasis in Technology Education applicant, the recipient must be an undergraduate majoring in one of the technology-related majors offered by the School of Technology, accepted to Eastern Illinois University who plans to pursue a career in technical education (e.g. high schools, vocational centers, community colleges, universities). 3. The recipient must be a student in good academic standing at Eastern Illinois University. 4. The financial need of the candidate(s) shall be a criterion to the extent determined by the committee. 5. Other criteria shall include personal qualities and participation in departmental activities. 6. The recipient may be eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet criteria. This award is announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a graduate student enrolled in the department of History’s traditional or Historical Administration program, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must be in good academic standing and have achieved an outstanding grade point average. 3. Preference shall be given to the candidate who can demonstrate outstanding scholarly achievement with an emphasis on historical writing as determined by submission of a writing assignment from a Master’s level class and/or chapter from the student’s master’s thesis. 4. Financial need may be a consideration. 5. Should the master’s degree in History and Historical Administration cease to exist, the award may be given as a writing award to an undergraduate History major. 6. The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student majoring in Management, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must have a GPA of 3.00 and financial need is a primary consideration. 3. Preference shall be given to recipient(s) involved in a Registered Student Organization (RSO) or student government. This award is announced in the Fall and disbursed in the Spring.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) should be a full-time student with a minimum of 60 semester hours completed, majoring in hospitality management, and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) shall have an overall GPA of 3.0. 3. The recipient(s) shall have signed an internship agreement to complete a minimum of 240 hours of internship at a Club Managers of America member club. Final determination will be contingent on successful completion of the internship agreement. 4. The recipient(s) should be a member of the Eastern Illinois University student chapter of the Club Managers Association of America. 5. Two letters of recommendation should be submitted for consideration. One letter should be from a hospitality management faculty member and the other letter from a Club Managers of America. 6. The recipient(s) should submit a one-page written letter of intent outlining career goals and the reason for pursuing a career in hospitality management. 7. The recipient(s) should complete an oral interview to be held on EIU’s campus by the Illini Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America who will submit their recommendation to the Scholarship Selection Committee. 8. The Pierre Toussaint Journalism Scholarship Fund is open to graduating high school students who will be studying journalism at Eastern Illinois University. You must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a minority student.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time, majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. Financial need is a consideration. 3. Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors. 4. The selection committee shall give first preference to a graduate of Brownstown (IL) High School. If there are no applicants from Brownstown (IL) High School, the secondary preference is a teacher candidate from any high school in Fayette County, Illinois. If there is not a viable candidate from either of these preferences, then the best overall applicant will be selected. 5. The recipient is in good academic standing. The Raymond L. and Carolyn Miller Fischer Scholarship is open to sophomores at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in English literature or the history and criticism of speech communication to be considered. This award alternates between English and speech departments.

The Richard Icen Fourth Estate Award is open to full-time students studying journalism at Eastern Illinois University. You must be in good academic standing, have at least 90 semester credit hours and be nominated by a journalism faculty member. An essay is also required.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be full-time students, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must qualify for admission to the School of Business and major in Business. 3. The recipient(s) must display a need for financial aid. 4. The recipient(s) must display the potential for leadership and academic promise. 5. The recipient(s) must have good moral values. 6. The recipient(s) must be persistent in the Christian religion of his/her choice. 7. The recipient(s) must be a resident of the State of Illinois. 8. The Rudolph G. and Kathryn E. Hlavek Scholarship is available to junior and senior business majors at Eastern Illinois University. You must be from a low-income family or be otherwise underprivileged to be considered for this award.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time undergraduate student, majoring in Psychology, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) shall maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA. 3. The recipient(s) shall plan to pursue a career in School Psychology or Psychology Education. 4. As a formal part of the application process, applicants shall submit a one-page essay outlining their educational and career goals. 5. Should two applicants be equally qualified, financial need shall be the determining factor. 6. This award will be announced in the Fall Semester and paid the following Spring Semester. 7. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award again provided they continue to meet the criteria above.

1. Recipient must be a full-time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale accepted to EIU. 2. The recipient must be a member of Pom Pon Squad, or be a student athletic trainer, or Physical Education major during his/her tenure at Eastern Illinois University. 3. The recipient must display a tenacious work ethic and leadership qualities. 4. The recipient must pursue a career in teaching dance or physical education or coaching interscholastic athletics. 5. Coaching and teaching potential will also be given consideration. 6. The recipient shall be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award one additional time provided they continue to meet the criteria above. This scholarship is announced in the fall and awarded in the fall.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient must be a graduate of Charleston High School. 2. The recipient must have a declared major in Elementary or Middle Level education. 3. The recipient must be a junior in good standing. 4. The recipient must have demonstrated an above-average academic record. This award shall be announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall semester.

The Timothy Gover and Clifford Fagan Scholarship is open to junior and senior business majors at Eastern Illinois University. You must be from a low - income family or otherwise be underprivileged to be eligible for this award.

Criteria for selection are as follows: 1.) Must be a full-time student athlete participating as an athlete on the Eastern Illinois University’s Track and Field and the Cross Country Teams and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2.) Must maintain an overall GPA of 2.75. 3.) The recipient must have two letters of recommendation from a coach, counselor, professor, and/or teacher. The recipient(s) are eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated herein. The award shall be announced in the Fall and paid in the Fall or Spring Semester.

The United Graphics Scholarship is available to entering students at Eastern Illinois University. Freshmen applicants must be in the top ten percent of their graduating class; transfer students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA to be eligible for this award.

1. Applicant must be an undergraduate enrolled full time with a minimum GPA of 2.5 2. Financial need is a consideration. Applicant must submit a short essay detailing need for the award. (Max 500 words) This award is typically announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall and Spring.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time student, majoring in Life Sciences, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. Merit shall be a primary consideration. 3. Preference shall be given to graduates of Charleston Community High School CUSD#1. 4. Financial need is not a consideration. 5. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award again provided they continue to meet the criteria above. This award will be announced and paid in the Spring semester.

The Warner Presidential Award in Botany is open to juniors and seniors who are majoring in the field of biological sciences. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and show outstanding academic achievement.

The Warner Presidential Award in History is open to juniors and seniors at Eastern Illinois University. You must have a minimum "B" average, major in history and be of outstanding character. Financial need may be a consideration.

The Warner Presidential Award in Mathematics is open to juniors and seniors studying mathematics at Eastern Illinois University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a person of outstanding character to qualify for this award.

The Warner Presidential Award in Pre-Medical Studies is open to students at Eastern Illinois University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a person of outstanding character.

The Warner Presidential Award in Zoology is open to juniors and seniors at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in zoology, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be of outstanding character. Financial need may be a consideration.

The Warner/Thornburgh Presidential Award in Journalism is open to juniors and seniors at Eastern Illinois University. You must have a minimum "B" average, major in journalism and be of outstanding character. Financial need may be a consideration.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient must be a full-time or part-time student currently accepted to and enrolled at Eastern Illinois University for a minimum of six semester hours of instruction. 2. The recipient must major in one of the following areas: pre-business or business, political science, or theater with preference given to theatrical lighting. 3. The recipient must have an overall GPA of 2.5. on a 4.0 scale 4. The recipient must display a need for financial need. 5. The recipient(s) must demonstrate a high quality of character as demonstrated through academic (e.g. student academic organizations, etc.) or community activities. 6. The recipient must submit a one page personal letter setting forth the reason for applying and stating future career goals. 7. All recipients must be a resident of Illinois. 8. Priority should be given to a Coles County resident who qualifies. If none should exist, then selection can be based upon statewide residency. 9. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award one additional time provided he/she continues to meet criteria. This award is to be announced and awarded in the Fall semester.

The William Craig Simmons Scholarship is available to junior students at Eastern Illinois University. You must be majoring in business or a related area, exhibit outstanding personal character, scholastic achievement and interest in the field of business.

The following criteria must be met: 1. The recipient(s) must be a full-time Junior or Senior, majoring in Early Childhood, Elementary & Middle Level Education, and be accepted to Eastern Illinois University. 2. The recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0. 3. The recipient(s) must be a graduate of Cumberland or Clark County High School. Preference is given to a graduate of Casey-Westfield High School. 4. The recipient(s) must display a need for financial aid. 5. The recipient(s) must show evidence of community service/volunteer activities. 6. The recipient(s) must be of good moral character as evidenced by a letter of recommendation. 7. The recipient(s) must use the award for tuition. 8. The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for and receive the award again provided he/she continues to meet the criteria stated above. This award shall be disbursed in the Fall semester.
