Scholarships at Lincoln Land Community College

Our scholarship is called ‘The Financial Literacy Scholarship’ because our mission is to empower young adults to take charge of their credit and financial health. Twice per year, we award a student with a $2,500 scholarship to further their educational goals. To apply, students must meet the following eligibility requirements: • Deadlines: October 30th and April 30th every year • Open to all majors • Must be enrolled at an accredited 2-year, 4-year, or technical/vocational college or university in the United States. • Open to college undergraduates, graduate students, and professional students • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA

In 1979, the Illinois Sheriff’s Association established a scholarship program for college-bound students. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1000 are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic, extra-curricular and character qualifications. Each Illinois county awards at least one $500 scholarship each school year. The scholarship program is open to Illinois students attending an Illinois higher learning institution. College scholarship applications are available beginning in January each year and winners are announced in May.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation seeks outstanding community college students with financial need for its Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. The Foundation provides up to $40,000 annually to high-achieving students and recent alumni from community colleges or two-year institutions who will pursue bachelor’s degrees at four-year institutions. The AWS Welder Training Scholarship is for students seeking welder training in a program up to two years through a trade school, community college, or other facility providing welder training, and cannot be used for credits towards a four-year program.

Bugsnag is proud to offer the $1,000 Careers in Coding Contest for code camp, college, or vocational students who wish to pursue a career in computer engineering and software development. The proceeds of contest are to be applied to the selected student’s educational expenses. ‍ In support of ongoing education, professional goals and improving software for all users, we want to encourage everyone to make an impact through their coding ability and expertise. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities.

Dr. Summit Shah has founded the Dr. Summit Shah MD Scholarship in reaction to the rising tuition costs. Dr. Summit Shah graduated as valedictorian from Bishop Watterson High School before attending Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s with Honors. He stayed at OSU and earned his MD from the College of Medicine at Ohio State. He has been a tireless advocate of access to higher education and has founded the Summit Shah Scholarship to ensure that deserving students from all parts of the economic spectrum can reach their academic goals. Technology – Students Scholarship Program This educational scholarship fund aims to give back to society and to help students in need to pursue their dreams, so we are offering USD 3000 scholarship to any college students who are interested in science and technology, and who have the enthusiasm and specific ideas especially in the area of Touch Display Technology. GFWC – General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Illinois Scholarships. This philanthropic organization, founded in 1894, is dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. This year, our organization has $12,000 in monetary scholarships for the academic fall semester of 2021. The scholarships available are in the studies of: Art, Drama, Music, Vocational Studies, and Health & Wellness. Applicants (male or female) must be a graduating high school senior, current college student and/or an adult returning to school. The Career & Technical Scholarship Program is funded through the Horatio Alger Endowment Fund and the generosity of Association Chairman Emeritus and Endowment Fund President Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States. Eligibility Criteria: Have completed high school (or earned a high school equivalency credential) Will be enrolled in eligible program in Fall 2020 Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program (up to 2 years) at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States Demonstrated critical financial need by showing one of the following: Family Income below $55,000 OR Pell Eligibility with an EFC value of 5576 or less Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity Be under the age of 30 Be a United States citizen Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. All scholarship funds are paid directly to the institution on behalf of the recipient.

In 2019, the IAAP Education Foundation will award up to five (5) scholarships of at least $2,000 each. These scholarships are a one-year grant. Students may re-apply in subsequent years. Applicant must be a high school graduate, or will graduate the year applying, and be pursuing undergraduate work only, on a full-time basis, at an institution of higher learning. Applicant must be majoring, or intends to major, in a curriculum which will be compatible with a career in the aggregates industry such as (but not limited to) Civil Engineering, Engineering Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Geological Engineering, Mineral Science or Mining Engineering. The Illinois Community College Faculty Association (ICCFA) offers several scholarship awards on an annual basis.

To continue Jack and Margaret Oakley’s legacy of their service and dedication to education, as well as compassion and meaningful impact on Lincoln Land Community College students, their family has established a scholarship endowment for students attending Lincoln Land Community College. Jack was born and raised on an Illinois farm where he learned firsthand about agriculture. He followed several career paths throughout his life, but ultimately returned to agriculture and began working for the Farm Bureau. After serving as manager in several counties, he retired as manager of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau. Margaret began working at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) as a clerk in the community services office. She quickly grew to love the college and began taking classes to further her education. While working full-time and raising a family, she earned her associate degree and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS). Margaret retired as an academic advisor after more than 25 years of service to LLCC. Jack and Margaret’s daughters, Jackie, Susan, Laura and Mary offer this scholarship as a way to honor their parents who gave so much to them. Through this endowment, the Oakley’s legacy will be a continuation of that giving to help ease the financial burden for students in their academic pursuits. ELIGIBILITY 1. Matthew Dickson Memorial Scholarship June 11, 1981-March 25, 2021 Matthew “Matt” Paul Dickson was a husband, son, brother, uncle, grandson, son-in-law, and Purple Heart-honored Marine veteran. He was all of these things and also so very much more. He was a crazy good dancer, a lover of a good scotch, and was aggressively competitive at all sports and games. He had the greatest smile and, based on his own judgement, an award-winning beard. If you were loved by Matt, you would find no greater champion. Matt married Brittany Scotto on October 8, 2016, in Kansas City. He loved his wife, Britt. She was his person and the life they built together was uniquely theirs: beautiful, funny, spontaneous and wonderful. She was his light and his life. He loved his parents Mike and Leslie. He got his sense of duty and commitment to family, community and country from them. Having their love meant the world to him. He loved his siblings by birth (Michelle and Brett) and his siblings by marriage (Lee and Brittany). As the oldest, it was his job to both protect and annoy them, and he took both seriously. He saw being a brother as a privilege. He loved his nieces and nephew, and all of his friends’ children who also called him Uncle Matt. While he planned on being a dad, he already excelled at being an uncle. Being Uncle Matt let his sense of humor and silliness shine, and he was so proud of Ellie, Kaylie, Claire and Carter. Matt was a three-sport letterman on the varsity soccer, basketball and baseball teams at Glenwood High School, graduating in 2000. He attended the University of Illinois in Champaign and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was a US Marine and served two tours of duty in Iraq (2003 and 2004). Matt was a director at a digital marketing agency in Kansas City. He loved his friends. While too numerous to list here, his friends were so important to him. Whether it was with his Marine brothers-in-arms, in the backyard around a fire pit, at a musical festival, playing golf, or just hanging out in the driveway with a few beers, he thrived being in the middle of the fray. His friends fed his soul. He loved his dogs, Wrigley and Ivy. They were his companions, his playmates, his partners in crime. Matt was beloved by an army of friends, family and coworkers who will miss his insane wit, his belly laugh, his intense sense of humor, his cooking, and his solid IPA recommendations. There is no greater privilege to have known him and no greater tragedy to have lost him. To continue Matthew Dickson’s legacy of service, leadership, laughter, hope and strength, his parents, Mike and Leslie have established a scholarship and award endowment for students attending Lincoln Land Community College. One of the leading healthcare organizations in Illinois, Memorial Health is a community-based, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to patient care, education and research. Memorial Health’s Mission is “to improve the health of the people and communities we serve.” The Vision is “to be the health system people choose over all others.” Memorial Health has established a scholarship for students enrolled in Lincoln Land Community College’s (LLCC) Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program with the following provisions and guidelines. I. The recipient of the scholarship must be a resident of the Lincoln Land Community College District 526 or meet the residency qualifications established by LLCC for in-district tuition rates and be a United States citizen or granted permanent resident status. II. Recipient(s) must meet the following qualifications: a. Must be accepted in LLCC’s ADN Program. b. Minimum grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. c. Enroll and complete the minimum credit hours (10 credit hours) per semester required by the ADN Program. III. The recipient(s) must maintain the minimum grade point average and complete the enrolled hours required each semester. IV. Scholarship recipient(s) will be encouraged to meet with Memorial Health representatives throughout his/her enrollment in the ADN Program.

Mensa Foundation scholarships are awarded on the basis of an essay that describes the applicant’s career, academic and/or vocational goals. The scholarships are unrestricted as to age, race, gender, level of education, grade point average, or financial need. The scholarship application process is open Sept. 15 – Jan. 15. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program in an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning during the academic year following the application date.

Applicant will take designated hours to qualify as a full-time student. 8. Applicant must exemplify good citizenship. 9. The scholarship committee will make any and all selections. Judges will be selected at random. 10. Three, $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors. Three, $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to those already attending college, provided there are sufficient applicants that qualify in each class. 11. An alternate will be selected if any of the scholarship recipients cannot or choose not to attend college. The alternate will receive the scholarship if eligible. All scholarship money will be repaid to the Montgomery County Foundation if student drops out of school before completing the semester in which the money was awarded. 12. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the Financial Department of your chosen college or trade school. 13. If any or all of the scholarship funding is not used, it may be carried over to the next semester. Otherwise, the balance will be returned to the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Foundation. 14. Recipients will be notified by April 30, 2021.

Her deep willingness to give to others and improve their lives inspired him. He wanted her effort to continue after retirement. Education is truly enduring. No matter what the field of education, students gain knowledge and learn to think, to reason and to problem solve. Such development will have a lasting impact not only on the students but on everyone with whom they associate throughout their lives. Since money is a major hurdle for some students, the ideal solution to help has presented itself: the creation of the “The Michelle Sklenka Scholarship.” Although it won’t truly capture her enduring smile and bubbly personality, the scholarship is in line with her passion to give. Michael “Mike” Barnard worked at LLCC for more than 36 years in the library. He also served as an accompanist and adjunct music faculty member. Mike is celebrating his 50th year of providing music lessons through the Mike Barnard Music Studio in Girard which opened in 1971. He also conducts private lessons in Chatham. Currently, he serves 30 students. Additionally, he has been a 25-year member of the Illinois Federation of Music, serving as president for the last 15 years. This national organization is for music teachers assisting music students ranging in age from 6-26. Mike has kept in touch with teachers from all-around the state and organizes all of the Illinois competitions from Chicago to Carbondale. To continue his legacy of dedication, compassion and meaningful impact on LLCC and music education, he has established a scholarship endowment for music students attending LLCC. This annual scholarship is for a first-time student enrolled 9 credit hours, with a minimum 3.0 GPA in a music field of study. ELIGIBILITY 1. Must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale 2.
