Scholarships at Loyola University Maryland

The Marion Burk Knott Scholarships are made possible by a generous gift to the Archdiocese of Baltimore from Henry J. Knott, Baltimore businessman and philanthropist, and they are named in honor of his wife. These scholarships are four-year, full-tuition awards available on a competitive basis to Catholic students residing in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Established in May 2003 by Mary Keene Greenblatt, MSA ’45, ’80, this fund provides need-based financial aid for students of a middle-class economic background.

The Haig Hauber Fellowship provides a stipend that allows students to conduct summer research with one of Loyola College’s science faculty.

The Alice M. Lage Memorial Fund supports talented and qualified undergraduate students.

Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society of Jesuit universities and colleges, provides scholarship support to talented and deserving students at each of the 27 Jesuit institutions across the country.

Established through the generosity of the Loyola University Maryland Alumni Association, this fund serves to foster the opportunity for a Loyola education for legacy students who show strong potential in the classroom with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Created in 1996 by members of American Citizens for Italian Matters, Inc. of Maryland, this fund provides support to a full-time undergraduate female student of Italian descent from the state of Maryland. In 2020, the ACIM added additional funding, donated by a beloved supporter of the ACIM mission, Elaine Mintzes, in honor of three ACIM members and women of Italian descent: Irene Piccinini, Marie DeRito and Mary Mangione.

Established in 2017, this scholarship provides tuition assistance to deserving students.

This fund will be used to provide fellowship assistance for graduate students within the speech language and hearing sciences department at Loyola who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who went to Loyola as undergraduates.

This fund was established in 2020 by Jim, MBA ’83, and Anna Lambdin. It provides fellowship support to graduate students enrolled in the Sellinger School of Business and Management. Recipeints must be involved in a nonprofit organization, community service, or other noteworthy achievement, accomplishment, or activity. Preference is given to prior graduates of Loyola University Maryland and/or Calvert Hall College High School.

Michael P. Cataneo, ’61 named this fund in August of 2001 in honor of his parents. It supports deserving students who have proven themselves in the classroom.

It is the preference of the Donor that two scholarships of approximately the same amount are awarded annually from the Fund by the Office of Financial Aid once the Gift is fully funded. One scholarship is awarded to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and have an interest in and proficiency for the fine arts. The other scholarship is awarded to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and have an interest in and proficiency for business entrepreneurship.

The Associated Italian American Charities of Maryland established this fund to provide financial assistance to qualified Loyola students of Italian descent.

The Athletic Grant is available to students participating in athletics at Loyola College in Maryland. You must be recommended by the Director of Athletics to be considered for this award.

Named for Aurora G. Granofsky, a loyal supporter and friend of Loyola, this award is given to deserving undergraduate students, with preference to those of Mexican descent.

The Cawley family created this scholarship in 2013 to support graduates of Maryvale Preparatory School or Loyola Blakefield in receiving a Loyola education.

This fund was established in 1990 by Elaine B. Saltysiak-Bricket, a speech-language pathologist and longtime member of the Mount Saint Agnes College faculty, in memory of her husband, Bernard. It is given each year to a graduate student studying speech-language pathology/audiology.

Established in 2014, in memory of Bernardo and Doris Gigliotti, by their son, Alfred, this scholarship supports students who demonstrate financial need.

Established in 2016, this fund is awarded to a qualified student who demonstrates financial need and who is of Italian American descent.

Established in 2014 by Michael, ’62, Esq. and Dr. Carol Nevin “Sue” Abromaitis, this scholarship provides support to students who are studying Catholic Studies in the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences.

Created in memory of Elaine M. Diggs’ brother, Charles C. Diggs, Jr., this scholarship will be used to provide fellowship assistance for graduate students in the Speech Language and Hearing Sciences Department at Loyola. Preference will be given to Loyola alumni who graduated with a BA in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, who demonstrate financial need.

Cirelli Scholars are deserving students from Maryland who have exhibited academic excellence.

Established in 1977 by Frank and Marie-Rose Everitt, the Christine Everitt Scholarship Fund is awarded to students who transfer to Loyola from other higher education institutions.

This fund was established in 1975 to assist in the education of young men who are considering Roman Catholic priesthood.

Established by the Class of 1999 through its Senior Class Gift Campaign, the Class of 1999 Scholarship Fund is awarded to a deserving undergraduate student.

Established by the Class of 2000 through its Senior Class Gift Campaign, the Class of 2000 Scholarship is given to a rising senior who has demonstrated a commitment to learning and leading in the classroom and through campus involvement.

Established by the Class of 2002 through its Senior Class Gift Campaign in memory of classmate Monique Dalan, the Class of 2002 Scholarship Fund is given to a qualified undergraduate student.

The Cochran Family Scholarship, established in 2004, is awarded to qualified students from the Baltimore metropolitan area.

Established in memory of Colleen J. Zirkle, ’16, this scholarship is awarded to a female student studying in the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences who demonstrates financial need.

Established with the proceeds from the 2011 Business Leader of the Year award dinner honoring Randall M. Griffin, this award provides scholarship support to students in the Sellinger School of Business and Management.

This fund may be used to support student financial aid, or general programmatic support at the discretion of the Office of International Programs; student awards will be made in consultation with the office of financial aid. A preference will be given towards the Loyola program in Leuven, Belgium.

Created in 2012 by two cross country alumni, the Cross Country Alumni Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who are members of Loyola’s cross country team.

This fund provides financial assistance to a senior who is interested in entering the medical profession.

Named in memory of Donald E. Cohill, ’50, by his wife, children, and grandchildren, the Donald E. Cohill Commuter Scholarship is given each year to a full-time undergraduate commuter student.

Named in memory of Donald F. Obrecht, ’44, this scholarship is awarded to male students from Baltimore County who are studying business.

Established in 2018 by longtime Loyola administrators and faculty member, Drs. Susan and Bill Donovan, this fund provides scholarship assistance to Loyola students with preference for first generation college students who demonstrate financial need.

Named in memory of Doris Van Doren, Ph.D., professor of marketing for 26 years, this fund provides support to qualified students in the Sellinger School of Business and Management.

This scholarship fund, established in memory of Daniel M. McGuiness, Ph.D. by his wife, friends, and family, supports students who are writing majors, particularly those who are concentrating in creative writing, in Loyola College, the University’s school of arts and sciences. For more than 20 years, Dr. McGuiness served the Loyola community as a faculty member in the writing department and as a moderator of Loyola’s two student literary magazines.

Established in 2013, this scholarship is awarded to deserving students in the Honors Program who are writing majors in the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences.

Named by David, ‘77, and Kathy Ferguson in memory of David’s parents, Duard and Mary, this fund supports students who attend Loyola and demonstrate need.

The Empowering Baltimore Youth Scholarship Fund, created by Daniel L., ’99 and Kelly Rizzo, ’98, provides scholarships to students who contribute to the racial and ethnic diversity of the student body, demonstrate financial need, and graduated from a high school in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area.

Named in memory of Erik Dietzel, MSF ’97, by his parents, James, EMBA ’85, and Carol, this fund supports Maryland residents who excel academically.

The Faith D. Gilroy Fellowship Fund, created in 2018, provides assistance for graduate students studying psychology who demonstrate financial need.

This fund was established in 2005 by Loyola alumni, staff, and friends in memory of Rev. Harold Ridley, S.J., president of Loyola from 1994 until his death in 2005. Ridley Scholars are talented and deserving Loyola students.

Established in 2020, this fund provides scholarship support to an incoming first-year undergraduate student with first preference for students who received the Frank P. Fischer Diversity Scholarship from Loyola Blakefield High School in Towson, Maryland. If in any year there are no students who meet the first preference, the scholarship shall be awarded with second preference to undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who would contribute to the racial and ethnic diversity of the Loyola campus.

The France-Merrick Scholarship is a four year commitment to a student from the Baltimore region who shows an interest in community service. The recipient will be a CCSJ work study intern for their first two years at Loyola, in order to gain exposure to structured community service. After the first two years, the work study component will no longer be a requirement, but the scholarship will stay with the student until graduation.

Created in memory of Francis E. Litz, Sr., this scholarship provides assistance for juniors and seniors majoring in English, with a preference for those who maintain a 3.2 GPA, specifically those studying English or American literature.

The Francis P. Chiaramonte, M.D. Scholarship, established in 2016, provides scholarship support to deserving undergraduate students in Loyola’s School of Education who demonstrate a financial need.

The late Nicholas B. Mangione, Loyola parent and former trustee, established this scholarship in 1992 in memory of his nephew, Fred Grimmel. It is awarded each year to Loyola students who have achieved academic success.

Established by the Fredericks family, this scholarship provides support to a men’s lacrosse student-athlete.

Established in 2013 by G. Gregory, ’69 and Linda P. Raab, this fund supports Loyola students studying in the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences.

Established in 2002 by Paul and Marie Mahoney, Parents ‘93 in honor of Marie’s parents, the Garnet and Glen Ridle Scholarship Fund provides support to qualified and deserving full-time undergraduate students.

Late brothers George and Eugene Connor established this fund in 2000. It supports qualified Loyola students of Irish-American descent.

This gift, made in honor of Alex and Theresa Perseghin and Clyde and Jane Rupert, will be used to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students who demonstrate financial need.

This fund was established by the friends and family of Gerard “Gerry” Case, Jr., a Loyola student and men’s lacrosse athlete who died in 1997 of meningococcal disease during his freshman year. This fund provides financial support for a men’s lacrosse student-athlete.

Natale Scholars are gifted Loyola students who have achieved academic success.

Established in 2017 by Louis and Judith Kistner, this scholarship provides financial assistance to students studying in the Sellinger School of Business and Management.

The Loyola Grant is available to full - time students at Loyola University Maryland who demonstrate exceptional financial need.

Named in memory of Mannes Greenberg, ’47, this scholarship is given to qualified full-time undergraduate students.

Established by Ingrid M. Sunzenauer, this scholarship provides scholarship assistance to Fine Arts students, with preference given to those majoring in the visual arts.

Established through the generosity of Ralph E. Bailey, ’48, this scholarship supports upperclassmen or women studying the sciences or engineering.

Scholarships is awarded from the Fund by the Office of Financial Aid to undergraduate students who are Pell Grant eligible and with a preference for female students who graduated from a Baltimore metropolitan-area public high school. If there is not an eligible student from the Baltimore, Maryland area, then the donor prefers the scholarship to go to a student outside the area (including state) that meets the other criteria. The Thomas B. & Elizabeth M. Sheridan Foundation provides annual scholarship support in memory of Thomas B. and Elizabeth M. Sheridan, the founders of The Sheridan Foundation, and their grandson, Thomas M. Sheridan, the first president of The Sheridan Foundation. Both men served as trustees of Loyola University Maryland. The Sheridan Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a student with exemplary academic behavior.
