Scholarships at Montgomery College

Will support students who participate in ACES program and have a demonstrated financial need. Maryland Dream Act students or other ACES participants who do not qualify for federal financial aid are eligible for this scholarship. Note: Please award $10,000 during spring 2020 and then $25,000 per year during 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23. Grant check expected by Dec. 31, 2019. Also, please award to a broad swath of ACES students, including, but not primarily, Dreamers.

Provides annual full tuition and fees support (up to 15 credits per semester at in-county rates) to students who are US citizens with both need and potential, who begin their studies at Montgomery College and continue their baccalaureate education at the Universities at Shady Grove.

This is a $25,000 current-use scholarship. The Montgomery College Foundation will award up to a total amount of $8,000 per academic year. (The $8,000 will benefit a maximum of 2 students at $4,000 each.) At the donor’s discretion, additional funds will be provided every 2-3 years to maintain a $25,000 scholarship balance. Those selected must meet the following criteria: 2nd year Engineering student; 3.0+ GPA; demonstrated financial need. A scholarship committee will be created and tasked with the annual scholarship recipient selection process. The committee will include Mrs. Juliette Trevino, Dr. Donald Day, Ms. Patricia Lopez, Dr. Sanjay Rai and/or other designee(s) from the Montgomery College Engineering Department. If a committee member is either unable or unwilling to serve at any given time, the Montgomery College Engineering Department Chair will select an appropriate alternate committee member. Please note that unrestricted scholarships are given to students with financial need. If for any reason the Foundation cannot fulfill your request relative to the preferences indicated, we will then use the unrestricted criteria.

Preference(s) The Gaithersburg -Germantown Chamber of Commerce is providing a $10,000 scholarship gift. Two scholarships ($5,000 each) will be awarded in a given academic year. There are several preferred criteria for the recipient of these scholarships. -It is preferred that the student be a second year student at Montgomery College (or have completed the equivalent of one academic year) - It is preferred that the scholarship be awarded to a student studying either engineering or computer science and technologies. - It is preferred that the student(s) would show a combination of academic achievement, community service, other involvement in the college or community. - It is preferred that the student have at least a 3.0 grade point average and has other involvement in community service or college activities.

This scholarship offers a fourth-semester award of $1,500 to 10 nursing students who are willing to participate in a leadership clinical rotation experience at a safety-net clinic that serves uninsured residents. Recipients also will receive $300 to pay for their NCLEX exam when they register.

To be awarded to students who attended Damascus High School. $250 per semester.

Will support students who are: 1. Majoring in Engineering; 2. Demonstrated financial need: 3. Grade point average of 3.0 or higher. 4. U.S. Citizen; 5. Students planning to transfer to any four year institution; 6. The recipients will be chosen with input from MC’s Engineering department.

Supports business students.

Supports Students who: 1. Are from Gabon or who have Gabonese heritage 2. Demonstrate financial need.

The honoree must be a mature woman with high academic standing and financial need.

Requirements: (1) Resident of Montgomery County. (2) A Woman working towards a degree in Math, Engineering, Physical Sciences (including Fire Science), Computer Science (including Network Engineering, Systems Security, and Web Careers), Technology (including Biotechnology, Auto Technology, Architectural and Construction Technology, and Building Trades), at either at Montgomery College or upon transfer to a four-year institution. Preferences: 1. Attends Rockville or Germantown Campus 2. Resident of Gaithersburg, Germantown, Rockville, Olney, Upcounty area.

Must be a female student, supporting a family, and returning to school.

Recipient must be a re-entry woman working towards degree and/or single parent.

Supports students who: 1. Demonstrate financial need 2. Is a Resident of Montgomery County and went to a Montgomery County High School 3. Female 4. Is working towards a degree in Math, Engineering or physical sciences (including Fire Science) 5. Attending Germantown or Rockville Campus (preferred) 6. Is a resident of Gaithersburg, Rockville, Germantown, Olney or the Upcounty area. (preferred)

Not designed for students continuing their studies at Montgomery College. For past participants in a Montgomery Ambassadors program for one year. Students must be transferring from Montgomery College to an accredited four-year higher-education institution located within the United States.

Female Student, 25 years or older, Demonstrate Financial Need

This scholarship will support: 1. Participant in the ACES program at Montgomery College; 2. Has demonstrated financial need; 3. Majoring in business, accounting or a related field, including a general studies major; 4. Preference for a student who indicates an interest in nonprofit management; 5. Students in the Dream Act and DACA program are eligible to receive this scholarship; 6. The same recipient(s) will continue to receive this scholarship at MC, as long as they meet the criteria.

Will support students who: 1.Maintains a 3.0 GPA or better 2. Taken at least one anthropology course at Montgomery College 4. Write a maximum 300-word essay that includes the student’s career and transfer plan, current engagement with the discipline of anthropology, and the research the student would like to undertake as part of an independent study course. This essay would be in addition to the essay on the Foundation’s scholarship application; 4. Register for an independent study or honors course taught by a full-time anthropology (or sociology) professor.

1) The scholarship will support the children of fallen law enforcement officers, firefighters or other safety and rescue professionals or volunteers who are students attending Montgomery College in credit or non-credit courses. Preferences will be given to students in the engineering program; 2) The scholarship can also be awarded to children of fallen soldiers who are students attending Montgomery College in credit or non-credit courses. Preference will be given to candidates who are involved with or supported by the Special Operations Warrior Foundation or; 3) If a suitable candidate for the scholarship cannot be found within the first two criteria, then the scholarship can support recent war veterans and active duty military who are students attending Montgomery College in credit or non-credit courses with a preference to those veterans and active military involved with special operations. 4) On a case by case basis, the scholarship may also be used in part to award a scholarship for the recipient of The Aris and Marianne Mardirossian Endowed Scholarship to transfer to a four-year institution upon completion of his or her Associate’s Degree at Montgomery College.

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to students who: 1. Are African American; 2. Are taking credit and/non-credit courses; and 3. Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Will support students who: • Are not eligible for federal or state financial aid. • Designated for Health Science students. • Designated for continuing education students re-entering the workforce. • Is open to students of all backgrounds who are committed to increasing the representation of women in post-secondary education

Supports Interior Design major students; demonstrate financial need; complete 12 credits; minimum 3.0 GPA; US Citizen or permanent resident not required.

Interior Design major, demonstrated financial need, complete twelve credits, minimum 3.0 GPA. US Citizen or Permanent Resident not required.

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to students who: 1. Have demonstrated financial need; 2. are from the Republic of Cameroon in Central Africa; and 3. Matriculate in credit and/or non-credit courses. Each scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year.

1. Students should be enrolled in the Biotechnology Program; 2. Students should have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5; 3. Priority should be given to students with financial need.

Maintained a grade point average of 2.5 at the end of his or her first semester 4. The student must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 to continue to receive this scholarship.

Will support students who: 1. Are engineering students

To provide annual scholarships to students in their freshman and/or sophomore years attending Montgomery College. Each scholarship shall be in an amount equal to in-county tuition and fees. A minimum of eight scholarships shall be awarded after Fiscal year 2012. A committee comprised of the College Director of Student Financial Aid, the Scholarships & State Grants Program Director, and any other College staff they deem appropriate, will select the Kendall Scholars each year. Students selected for Kendall Scholarships must: (1) Demonstrate financial need; (2) Show high potential for success; (3) Be U.S. Citizen; (4) Have a high probability of continuing to reside in Maryland after graduation from college; (5) Have demonstrated prior service to others (including family and/or community), and (6) Satisfy other standards that the selection committee deems to be important. Each scholarship recipient shall be assigned a mentor to help to assure each student’s academic and career success. Mentors will be requested by the Office of Financial Aid and may include faculty, staff, and academic and non-academic administrators. The Foundation Finance Director of the Montgomery College Foundation shall approve all expenditures and administer the Fund.

Supports students who: 1. Are enrolled in Summer Dinner Theatre technical theatre program.

Preference but not limited to a graduate from Montgomery County Public Schools who participated in a high school hospitality program for one semester or more 4. Demonstrates financial need; 5. Maryland Dream Act or other students who do not qualify for federal financial aid are eligible for this scholarship.

Supports students who are: 1. First-year students majoring in Hospitality Management 2. Demonstrates financial need 3. Preference is for a MCPS graduate who participated in a high school hospitality program for one semester or more 4. Maryland Dream Act or other student who does not qualify for federal financial aid are eligible.

Will support students who: 1. Are in good academic standing 2. Are participating in the ACES program at MC 3. Demonstrate financial need

The scholarship will support: 1) students who successfully completed all developmental math courses; 2) students who completed English 101 and College level math with a minimum grade of C; 3) students with Minimum 2.7 grade point average (GPA); 4) students who have a declared major; 5) students who are Non-U.S. citizens including “dreamers” or permanent residents; 6) first generation college students; 7) preference toward Hispanic/Latino students; 8) not eligible for FAFSA;

Academic merit, financial need; US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Will support students who: 1. Are first generation to college in their families 2. Are participating in the ACES program and remain in good standing 3. Demonstrate financial need 4. Are enrolled in at least 9 or more credit hours per semester 5. Transfers immediately to a BS/BA degree program offered at the Universities at Shady Grove to be completed in the next two-three years 6. Must meet the minimum GPA requirements for his/her transfer major 7. Must complete written statement of their aspirations and their educational and career goals on the general application 8. Dreamers or DACA students may be eligible.

(1) Applicants shall be residents of Montgomery County and graduates of a County high school. (2) Must maintain an exemplary record of academic achievement throughout his/her high school career. (3) Demonstrate a long-term and continuing commitment to community service. (4) Indicate a clear interest in pursuing a course of study in the construction trades, civil or mechanical engineering, accounting or business. (5) Demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for the duration of the scholarship award. (6) Intend to continue their education at an accredited institution of higher learning. (7) Provide to the Committee for Montgomery a brief written summary of his/her activities at the conclusion of each academic year.

(1) Designated for a Montgomery County Public School High Graduate (2) Preference shall be given to those students demonstrating an interest in a career in public or community service (3) Have a 2.50 GPA or higher (4) Demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid office (5) Maryland Dream Act, DACA students and others who do not qualify for federal financial aid because of their citizen status, ARE eligible for this scholarship

This opportunity will support students who: 1. Students must have demonstrated financial need as verified by the Montgomery College Scholarship Office. 2. Scholarships are open to all students regardless of citizenship status. 3. Students must be enrolled in the nursing program at Montgomery College.

Will support students who: 1. have a demonstrated financial need; and 2. Students who are matriculating in the Health Sciences fields or programs (nursing, physical therapy, emergency medical technician, radiologic technician, etc).

1) Half the annual distributions of the Fund provides scholarship support for MC students and half the annual distributions of the Fund provides scholarship support for Montgomery College students who transfer to a 4-year program in order to complete their bachelor’s degree. 2)The MC scholarship supports students majoring in physics, engineering, or mathematics who have completed at least 15 credits at Montgomery College and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Scholarship recipients may have no more than one repeated course, must have completed satisfactorily or be currently enrolled in the first calculus course for engineers, and must attempt the first course in techniques of reading and writing prior to or during their first year of scholarship support. 3)The transfer scholarship supports students who were physics, engineering, or mathematics majors at MC and who are transferring to a 4-year accredited institution where they will be pursuing a baccalaureate degree in physics, engineeering, or mathematics. 4)For both the MC scholarships and the transfer scholarships, no preference will be given to any citizenship or visa status. Special consideration will be given to women and minorities. The scholarship awards will be based on the demonstrated financial need of each student, but they will cover at least 25% of the cost of the tuition, fees, and books at the institution where the student is enrolled. All scholarship awards are renewable through the baccalaureate degree based on satisfactory grades and progress in major.

Supports students majoring in Physics, Engineering, or Mathematics who have completed at least 15 credits at Montgomery College and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Scholarship recipients may have no more than one repeated course, must have completed satisfactorily or be currently enrolled in the first calculus course for engineers, and must attempt the first course in techniques of reading and writing prior to or during their first year of scholarship support.

Will support students who: 1. Have financial need 2. Maintains a GPA of 3.0 3. With a minimum of 12 credits 4. Contributes a minimum of 5 hours per week to community service or participates in an extra curricula activity on or off campus.

Will support students who: 1. Demonstrate financial need 2. Is studying physics or engineering.

Will support students who are: 1. International or foreign-born students 2. Have a GPA of 3.0 or greater

Preference to Achieving Collegiate Excellence & Success (ACES) program or the Boys to Men program; 6. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or better.

Will support who: 1. Are female students returning to college 2. Are US citizens or permanent residents 3. Are enrolled in credit and/or non-credit courses that lead to job attainment; 4. Maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or better. 5. Opportunity awarded by the Montgomery College Foundation

Plans to transfer immediately to BA/BS degree program offered at the Universities at Shady Grove to be completed in the next two years and remain in good academic standing 5. GPA of 2.5 or greater 6. Recipient will continue to receive this scholarship at MC and USG, as long as he/she meets the criteria 7. In addition to scholarships, the student may receive support to meet textbooks costs at both institutions and to pay for up to two developmental courses at Montgomery College.

Will support students who: 1. Are participating in the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) program. 2. Demonstrate financial need 3. DREAMers, DACA, and undocumented students in the ACES program are eligible.

Will support students who: 1. Have financial need 2. Are studying Arts & Sciences Health Fitness, Physical Ed Teacher Education or Physical Education.

Will support students who: 1. Are a second year participant in the ACES program and in good standing 2. Demonstrate financial need 3. Transfers immediately to a BS/BA degree program offered at the Universities at Shady Grove to be completed in the following two years 4. Must meet the minimum GPA requirements for his/her transfer major 5. Preference for a Business major or MBI student 6. If student elects to withdraw from the ACES program or transfers to a program not housed at the USG campus, then the student forfeits their future scholarship awards

(1) The recipent of the scholarship shall take no fewer than 12 semester hours and shall maintain passing grades. (2) The Scholarship shall be granted only to those persons matriculating in Automotive, Business Management or Marketing.

“The scholarship will provide tuition, fees, equipment, books, and/or any college costs for Montgomery College students who are matriculating in the credit nursing program. Have submitted the FAFSA financial aid form on time and received all the federal/state and local grants they are eligible for that year; 7. Share his/her written statement of their aspirations and their educational and career goals. 8. If a scholarship recipient elects to withdraw from the ACES program, the student forfeits their future scholarship awards.

This award provides scholarship support of $1,500 each academic year for students accepted into MC’s nursing program who intend to earn their bachelor’s degree in nursing through the ADN-to-BSN dual admission program at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Bilingual students are particularly encouraged to apply, but this opportunity is open to any nursing student who meets the criteria. Additional benefits for recipients will include healthcare interpreting certification or cultural communications training, as well as participation in an annual hands-on interprofessional collaboration activity with students in other healthcare fields. The Healthcare Initiative Foundation scholarships are structured to provide ongoing support to recipients during your studies at Montgomery College and at the Universities at Shady Grove through completion of your bachelor’s degree, as long as you continue to meet the criteria. CRITERIA 1. Need based; 2. Montgomery County resident; 3. Student already accepted or enrolled in MC’s nursing program with the intent to enroll in the ADN-to-BSN dual admission program with the University of Maryland School of Nursing at the Universities at Shady Grove; 4. This award provides scholarship support of $1,500 each academic year, and a $200 living stipend each semester, for behavioral health/mental health and public health students who intend to earn their bachelor’s degree in social work or public health at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Bilingual students are particularly encouraged to apply, but this opportunity is open to any student who meets the criteria. Additional benefits for recipients will include career preparation through the CEO program operated by USG, as well as participation in the annual Mass Casualty Drill at MC or a similar collaboration activity with students in other healthcare fields. We ask applicants to plan to participate in both activities. The Healthcare Initiative Foundation scholarships are structured to provide ongoing support to recipients during your studies at Montgomery College and at the Universities at Shady Grove through completion of your bachelor’s degree, as long as you continue to meet the criteria. (1) Students should be enrolled in the Biotechnology program and registered for at least one Biotechnology course (a course with the BT prefix) in the semester the award is given, Preference will be given to students who are taking 200 level Biotechnology courses. (2) Students should be eligible and willing to work at Human Genome Sciences Inc. or another biotechnology company if there is a position available. (3) Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
