Hungerford Nichols CPAs + Advisors established a scholarship in 2003 for undergraduate GVSU accounting students. To be eligible, students must have an interest in a career in public accounting in West Michigan. Recipients are expected to demonstrate good scholarship, interpersonal skills and continued involvement in the business community. Recipients receive $2,000 ($1,000 per semester) toward tuition and fees at GVSU. $2,000 Study Abroad Scholarship for incoming undergraduate Freshmen More than 100 incoming Freshmen will be selected each year to receive this $2,000 scholarship, which can be used towards a GVSU approved study abroad program anytime during their 4 years at GVSU. Study abroad is the opportunity to study outside of the United States while earning GVSU credit. To apply, write a compelling essay (200-500 words) about where you would want to study abroad and why. We encourage you to include how studying abroad would impact you on a personal, professional or academic level. The essay will be the primary consideration for awarding the scholarship, so the committee encourages you to put thought and time into it. Over 100 scholarships awarded per year. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize a current student in good standing in the Masters of Athletic Training (MAT) degree program who has excelled in the academic, clinical, and leadership aspects of the MAT, and plans to pursue a career in athletic training. Autocam Medical would like to encourage engineering majors interested in practical engineering and educate young people about the changes in the advanced manufacturing field that have taken place over the last 20 years. By providing scholarship support to students from Michigan who may have limited exposure to manufacturing, they hope to raise awareness among college aged populations about advanced manufacturing and ultimately improve the image of manufacturing that is portrayed in popular culture. The Barbara H. Padnos International Scholars program is intended to support substantive study abroad programs for GVSU undergraduates. Recognizing the benefit that long-term study abroad can provide to students throughout their lifetimes, the Barbara H. Padnos International Scholars program provides opportunities for students to engage in long-term study, thereby acquiring an in-depth understanding of the language, culture, and values of another country. Ideally, Padnos scholars will spend as much time as possible in the host country/culture. Therefore, only students studying abroad for two semesters or an academic year at one location will be considered eligible, with special consideration for students who have a plan to spend more than 10 months abroad (up to and beyond a full calendar year). The Padnos Scholar selection process is meant to identify the most promising applicants: those who demonstrate great potential for success through study abroad, as well as those who will positively share their year-abroad experience with others. This scholarship was established to help expand access to University education for promising and committed students of Classics with financial need. This scholarship is awarded in recognition of excellence in the Integrated Science Program. This scholarship is intended to aid sophomore students who intend on becoming junior level students at the Seidman College of Business. Applicants must be students at the sophomore level who anticipate becoming junior level students at the Seidman College of Business beginning with the fall semester following application for this scholarship First time recipients must be enrolled at Grand Valley State University at the Junior level (55 minimum earned credit hours) with fulltime status in the Seidman College of Business, undergraduate, degree seeking, and must demonstrate a strong interest in business, ethics, and philosophy. The Becker CPA Course scholarship is awarded to a student who will take the CPA exam within one year that shows potential to excel in passing the examination the first time. Becker Professional Review was established in 1957 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2007. The value of the program is $3,393. In 2014, 53 out of 59 Watt Sells winners used Becker to prepare for the CPA exam. The four-year Detroit Promise is a last dollar funding program for students who live in the city of Detroit and will graduate from any Detroit high school in 2017. It provides Detroit youth a tuition-free path to a bachelor’s degree at a number of four-year universities in the state of Michigan. The purpose of this scholarship is to attract the brightest students from middle income families and help widen their pathway to graduation. This two fold purpose will allow the University to be competitive among other insitutions that are chosen by highly accompilshed high school graduates, while also helping the student from middle-income families avoid indebtedness. Even very bright students, whose families do not qualify for federal need-based aid, often face the difficult choice of burdening their families with further debt or not completing their degrees solely because of economic reasons. The First Generation Urban Schools Scholarship was established to provide opportunities for new incoming students who are the first in their families to attend college and may receive little encouragement and financial support to attend. Must be the first person in his or her immediate family to pursue a college degree (neither parent/guardian has a four year degree), as reported on their admissions application. Must be a graduate of a high school identified as a urban school or additional schools identified by the financial aid office (please contact financial aid office for full listing). The Young Black Making a Difference (YBMaD) scholarship program is designed to assist financially needy, academically competitive students who identify as African American. These scholarships are part of the non profits ongoing commitment to education. YBMaD offers two scholarships $250 each, to students who have kids and are from communities who face limited access to educational career opportunities. Eligibility: Applicant must identify as a student parent with parenting responsibilities (including but not limited to child support, care visits, academic support, guardianship etc.). Applicant must have a current minimum GPA 2.5 (i.e. good academic standing). Currently enrolled college student who has at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage. Selection priority is given to applicants who have kids. Scholarship recipients must enroll in and attend a two or four-year accredited college or university or vocational/technical school. Verification of enrollment is required. Scholarship funds will be paid via check directly to the accredited institution in which the student is enrolled.
