Scholarships at Monroe County Community College

Providing a scholarship to a Monroe County, Michigan resident. Applicant must have a well defined course of study and be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours per semester for Fall and Winter semesters). Additional consideration may be given to Monroe Exchange Club Junior Exchange Program participants, and preference is given to graduates of Ida, Jefferson, Monroe, and St. Mary’s Catholic Central High Schools. The A.C.E. Award was created to recognize high school seniors who have redirected their lives through a dramatic change in their attitude and academic performance. The recipient of this scholarship will be further nominated by the Monroe Exchange Club for the Michigan District Exchange Club’s A.C.E. Award. If the student is selected at the District level, s/he will receive an additional $1,000 scholarship and become eligible for consideration by the National Exchange Club for a $10,000 award as the national winner.

This scholarship is to provide financial support, including tuition, fees, books and supplies. The applicant must be a United States citizen, must be a permanent resident of one of the following 19 Downriver Michigan communities: Allen Park, Brownstown, Ecorse, Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Huron Township, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, New Boston, River Rouge, Riverview, Romulus, Rockwood, Southgate, Taylor, Trenton, Woodhaven and Wyandotte, must have earned a minimum of 12 college credits and must be currently enrolled as a full-time student. Preference given to a student returning to college, after an absence, due to various circumstances. Applicant must submit an essay of 250-500 words to include an introduction of themselves by understanding the AAUW mission and principles (http://www.aauw.org/about) and why they believe they would be successful in their intended education goal and future career.

Scholarship to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a degree or certificate in welding technology. If there is not an applicant pursing welding technology, the scholarship may be awarded to a student in any Applied Science and Engineering Technology Division certificate or degree program. Preference will then be given to a student whose coursework includes welding. Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA and at least a part-time student at MCCC during their scholarship year. Part-time enrollment is defined as six (6) contact hours per semester. Preference will be given to a Monroe High School, Monroe, Michigan, graduate. If there is not an applicant from Monroe High School, the scholarship may be awarded to a high school graduate from any Monroe County high school if they meet all other criteria.

Providing scholarship(s) for a full-time student (enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester) who is a veteran or a child of a veteran. Veteran must have received an honorable discharge and submit a copy of their DD-214 to Financial Aid Office upon accepting the scholarship award. Applicant must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident. Financial need is considered.

Providing scholarship to a veteran, or a spouse, child, adopted-child or grandchild of an honorably discharged veteran and must be a Monroe County, Michigan, resident. The applicant must submit a copy of the veteran’s DD-214 to the Financial Aid Office and submit a 250-300 word essay answering the question, “What does Americanism mean to you?” Students with a family member who belongs to AMVETS will be given preference.

Scholarship to cover tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicant will be entering their second-year as a student who is in the pre-education transfer program or planning to pursue a degree in the field of elementary education. Majors of study include degrees in Early Childhood Development or Teacher Paraprofessional with a commitment to complete studies in a baccalaureate Elementary Education program. Applicate must have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA, be a Monroe County resident and preference will be given to students who attended Monroe Public Schools, Monroe, MI.

Annual Scholarship for a Monroe County resident who has previous community service involvement and is seeking education in order to return to the workforce. Academic achievement is considered. Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

Scholarship to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicant must be pursuing a degree in computer information systems (CIS). Must be a student with a 3.0 GPA or higher, who is a graduate of a Monroe County, MI high school. Preference will be given to a graduate of Monroe High School, Monroe, MI. Must maintain at least part-time enrollment at MCCC. Part-time enrollment is defined as six (6) contact hours or more per semester. Financial aid may be considered.

To be used for tuition, fees and books. Students applying must be enrolled part-time in a certificate or degree program in the ASET division. Part-time enrollment is six (6) contact hours per semester. Preference will be given to a Bedford High School graduate, Temperance, MI. The recipient must be a Monroe County, MI resident.

Providing scholarship assistance for a second-year, full-time student, defined as enrolled in twelve (12) credit hours per semester. The applicant must have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours at MCCC and have a 2.5 or higher GPA. Applicant must be an active participant in a recognized College organization, helping to promote College ideals and improve campus life for other students.

Scholarship for Monroe County, Michigan residents who are undergraduate students enrolled full-time at Monroe County Community College. Students must have contributed significantly to campus life during the freshman year. Number of awards may vary.

Scholarship for Monroe County, Michigan residents who are undergraduate students enrolled part-time at Monroe County Community College. Students must have financial need and be enrolled in a transfer program. Number of awards may vary.

Providing scholarship assistance to a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester. Applicant must be enrolled in a transfer curriculum. To continue to receive this scholarship, the recipient must demonstrate continuing academic achievement of at least a 2.5 GPA.

Providing scholarship assistance for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicants must be a Monroe County, Michigan, resident and be a current or former Monroe County firefighter or the sibling, child or grandchild of a firefighter.

Providing scholarship (s) to a full-time (at least 12 billable contact hours per semester) student who is a resident of Monroe County or Washtenaw County, Michigan and United States citizen. Applicant must be enrolled in a business-related transfer program to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business. Preference will be given to an Ida High School, Ida, Michigan graduate. Applicant must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and financial need may be considered. Letter of recommendation from the high school counselor must accompany the application.

To provide an annual scholarship for a transfer student interested in pursuing a career in medical research. Student pursuing an associate of science degree with coursework emphasis in biological sciences, chemical sciences, or physical sciences. Student must have a minimum 3.2 GPA to apply and carry a 3.0 GPA or higher during the scholarship year. Student must be planning to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a degree in a discipline area that prepares them for a career in medical research. Must be a full-time student defined at twelve (12) billable contact hours per semester with a minimum of 24 credit hours earned from MCCC prior to applying for scholarship. Applicant must submit a one page essay outlining why they are interested in medical research. Financial aid may be considered. Scholarship may not be used to re-take courses at MCCC.

Providing a scholarship for a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) student enrolled in a health related curriculum (e.g., nursing, pre-med, pre-dentistry, x-ray technician, pre-physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pre-pharmacology, pre-lab technician, etc.) Recipients must have graduated in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class or been ranked in the top 25 percent of the class at the time of application. Students must demonstrate community/school involvement.

The student applicant must be enrolled at least part-time (6 credit hours or more per semester) in a transfer program planning to pursue a degree in the field of education or pre-education. Scholarship to be used for tuition, fees and books. Students applying must be pursuing a degree or certificate in any Applied Science and Engineering Technology programs. Providing a scholarship(s) for a nursing or respiratory therapy student(s). Recipient must be a second-year student who demonstrates an above average clinical and academic performance and a high degree of personal and professional integrity.

Providing scholarship(s) to Monroe County, Michigan firefighters and their dependents. Applicants must provide a letter from the Department Chief confirming they are a firefighter or dependent of a firefighter. Scholarship money can be used for credit courses or for the non-credit Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program offered through the MCCC Office of Lifelong Learning.

Providing scholarships for students enrolled in one of the following programs: Industrial Management Technology, Mechanical Design Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Product and Process Technology. Preference will be given to a Jefferson High School graduate who is a Monroe County, Michigan resident. Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA or higher and maintain two-thirds (8 billable contact hours) enrollment at MCCC during their scholarship year. Applicant must have financial need.

Providing scholarship support for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicants must be pursuing an associate of applied science degree from any engineering or manufacturing related program in the Applied Science and Engineering Technology Division, must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average, must complete ‘Fundamentals of Forging’ (the donor will provide instructions on how to complete) and must agree to schedule a tour of an FIA Member forging plant.

This funds will provide support for MCCC students who are pursuing a degree in an engineering or manufacturing related program. The scholarships shall be awarded for tuition fees, books and supplies.

Providing a scholarship for a current year graduate of Bedford High School in Temperance, Michigan and first year student at MCCC. The applicant must enroll full-time and must have a 2.5 GPA or higher both when applying and during their scholarship year. The recipient must agree to provide a minimum of twenty (20) community or public service hours to the organization of their choice. Recipient must have demonstrated financial need. Applicants must submit a one-page essay outlining their career goals, including any plans they have for public service. The essay should also address why the applicant feels that community and public service are important.

Provides scholarship to MCCC’s most vulnerable students at the point of need. Students needing financial support to complete their studies are given priority.

The Frances A. Maedel Art Scholarship Fund at Monroe County Community College has been created by family, friends and the Monroe Art League to honor and remember a member of the early art scene in Monroe; and a founding member of the organization. This scholarship will assist with tuition, fees, course supplies and books. Applicant can be either a full-time or part-time student at MCCC and be a Monroe County, Michigan resident. Applicants must upload three to five (3-5) pieces of their recent artwork for review. If selected, the 3-5 pieces will be presented in person.

Providing scholarship assistance for a student who has worked at least one semester in a tutoring program recognized by the Learning Assistance Lab (LAL) or an academic division at MCCC (SI, WF, tutoring) and must remain active in an MCCC tutoring program during the scholarship year. Providing scholarship assistance for a student(s) planning to transfer to a college or university to pursue a degree in music or a second year nursing student (preference is given to a music student). Applicants must be enrolled full time a minimum of twelve (12) academic credit hours per semester. Music applicants must be a graduating high school senior with preference be given to an Ida High School, Ida, Michigan graduate. During the scholarship year, the recipient must be a member of the College/Community Symphony Band and/or the Agora Chorale. Music applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their high school band and/or choir director. Recipient must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan and a United States citizen.

Providing scholarship assistance to graduates of Jefferson High School in Monroe, Michigan or Mason Senior High School in Erie, Michigan. Recipients must maintain part-time enrollment defined as six (6) credits hours or more per semester. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA or higher and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher during their scholarship year. Applicant must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan and a United States citizen.

Providing a scholarship(s) for a student(s) with financial need and academic excellence. Applicant may be enrolled in either a credit transfer or occupation program of study. Recipient must maintain three-quarter time enrollment (9 credit hours) per semester and have and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Providing scholarship assistance to a student enrolled in a transfer program attending a minimum of twelve (12) billable contact hours per semester at MCCC. Recipient must be a graduate of a Monroe County, Michigan high school. Applicant must demonstrate high academic achievement by submitting a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or counselor speaking to their academic achievement and promise. Recipient must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident and a United States citizen.

Providing scholarship assistance for students enrolled part-time, defined as six (6) credit hours or more per semester. Preference will be given to students who are a single-parent with custodial care of one or more children under the age of eighteen or students who were raised in a single-parent household. Preference will be given to Monroe County, Michigan residents. Selection will be based upon the recipient’s “academic promise”. Preference will be given to students who have faced adversity in their life and are pursuing their educational goals to create a better future for themselves and their families.

The intent of this scholarship is to provide educational funding to a student that would face financial difficulty in attending college, yet would not be eligible for other sources of federal or state financial aid. An Application for Federal Student Aid should be filed to determine financial need. Applicants must be a Monroe County resident, with demonstrated need, and a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Annual award for undergraduate students enrolled full-time at Monroe County Community College majoring in Culinary Skills and Management. Students must have completed 24 credit hours toward a culinary degree.

Providing scholarship assistance for a second-year, full-time student, defined as enrolled in twelve (12) billable contact hours per semester. The applicant must have earned a minimum of 30 credit hours at MCCC and have a 2.8 or higher GPA. Applicant must be enrolled in a health occupation program (e.g., certified nurse aide, practical nursing, phlebotomy technician, or respiratory therapy) or a health-related science curriculum (e.g., biology, chiropractic, chemistry, dentistry, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, or physics) at MCCC. Recipients must maintain active membership in a recognized College organization or activity during the scholarship year.

To be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Students must be enrolled in the MCCC Nursing Program and have completed the first semester of the program with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Recipient must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan, a United States citizen, a graduate of Bedford High School, Temperance, Michigan and enrolled at least part-time at MCCC. Part-time is defined as six (6) contact hours per semester.

Formally the Student Nurses Association Scholarship. To provide annual scholarship support for a nursing student enrolled in the Registered Nursing Program or Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate Program at MCCC. Must be an active member of the MCCC Student Nurses Association and participate in one SNA sponsored event each fall and winter semester and attend two monthly SNA meetings. Current SNA officers are not eligible to receive the scholarship. Applicant must have a 3.2 GPA or higher to be eligible for the scholarship. Applicant must submit a one page essay addressing what it means to be a member of the Student Nurses Association and what is believed should be done to enhance and make MCCC SNA a stronger and more vibrant chapter.

Providing scholarship assistance to a student enrolled a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester. Applicant must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan. Applicant must have financial need.

Providing a scholarship(s) for a part-time(at least 6 credit hours per semester) student pursuing a degree in a “hands-on” career program in an applied technology or in a health sciences occupational program. Recipient must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Financial need may be considered. Recipient must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan and a United States citizen.

Scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled full-time at Monroe County Community College. Students must be working a minimum of 30 hours per weed while attending college OR completed a home school program. Number of awards and award amount may vary.

Providing scholarship assistance to a student enrolled a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester and who is working thirty (30) hours per week or more in addition to attending college or who have successfully completed a home school program.

Students applying must be enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program, at least part-time enrollment (6 contact hours per semester), have a 3.0 GPA, a resident of Monroe County, and expressed interest in and be currently involved in community service. Recipient is strongly encouraged to continue to provide community service with the organization(s) of their choice during the scholarship year.

Providing scholarship(s) for a full-time student (enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester) who is an immediate relative (child, step-child, or spouse) of an MCCC graduate. Special consideration will be given to relatives of MCCC Alumni Association member in good standing at time of application. Applicant must be a graduate of a Monroe County high school, a United States citizen and a Monroe County, Michigan resident. This must be the only scholarship used for tuition, fees and books at MCCC during current the academic year.

Scholarship to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicants must be a member of the Monroe County Community Credit Union, have and maintain a 2.8 GPA or higher and must maintain at least part-time enrollment at MCCC. An essay discussing why the applicant should be selected to receive this scholarship including their educational and professional goals and other information to help determine financial need must accompany application.

Providing scholarships assistance for a part-time (6 billable contact hours per semester) student at MCCC who has an expressed interest in and strong history of community service. Applicant must submit a one-page essay on why community service is important to them and recipient must agree to speak at the Namaste Day event at MCCC, addressing participants on the importance of community service.

Providing scholarships for Monroe County, Michigan residents who are enrolled at least three-quarter time (at least 9 credit hours per semester) and have a Metrology major ($1,000) or are enrolled in a selected metrology course ($100). Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA or higher. The $100 scholarships are awarded to the first 10 applicants who enroll in the targeted course and meet the criteria required by the scholarship.

Providing scholarship for tuition and fees for full-time (at least 12 billable contact hours) students during Fall and Winter semesters. Applicant must have a 2.75 or greater GPA, must submit a personal statement discussing educational and professional goals, and must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident. Providing scholarship assistance for a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester fall and winter and maintain a cumulative 2.2 GPA. Applicants must perform a solo or an etude, and provide a pianist where accompaniment is required; play five of the scales listed in the MSBOA Proficiency I or II guidelines; and play a short selection of sight reading (music provided) for the audition before the Director of the Monroe County Community College. Band Recipient must participate in the MCCC Band during their scholarship period. Recipient must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident.

Providing scholarship assistance for a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester fall and winter and maintain a cumulative 2.2 GPA. Applicants must perform a prepared solo and some sight singing for the audition before the Director of the Monroe County Community College Agora Chorale. Recipient must participate in the Agora Chorale during their scholarship period. Recipient must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident.

This scholarship if for tuition, fees and books. Students must maintain full time enrollment, have a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in a transfer program that is offered at MCCC. Students need to be a United States citizen.

Providing scholarship assistance for a student with demonstrated interest in history and intending to pursue further study in history. Preference will be given to a Monroe County, Michigan resident. Applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester. Recipient must enroll in at least one (1) history (HIST) course at MCCC during the scholarship year.

Scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled at Monroe County Community College majoring in History and/or History Education. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, attending at least three quarter time, and be enrolled in a co-op/internship at Monroe County Historical Museum. Number of awards and award amount may vary.

Providing a scholarship(s) for a student who is or has been a participant in the Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) system or a student who has participated in the MCCC Upward Bound Program and at the time of graduation was in good standing with the program and/or have attended the Monroe County Learning Bank Network. Preference may be given to an applicant who has lived in the Monroe County Youth Center. Recipients must maintain at least part-time enrollment (6 credit hours) at MCCC during the fall and winter semesters.

Applicants must have excellent academic credentials. Preference will be given to a student who is an active member of the MCCC Honor Society. Applicant must have a 3.5 or better GPA and demonstrate their participation in school and/or community affairs. Students must demonstrate leadership qualities and be enrolled a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester in both fall and winter semesters.

To be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Recipient must be a second-year student pursuing an associate of applied science degree with a specialization in automotive service technology. Must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident, maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, and part-time student at MCCC during the scholarship year. Part-time enrollment is defined as six (6) contact hours per semester.

Providing scholarship support to a student enrolled at least part-time (min 9 contact hours per semester), who attended both their junior and senior year, and will graduate from Jefferson High School with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Demonstrated financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for a second and third year providing funds are available.

Providing scholarship assistance for a part-time student returning to school after a period of other activity. Recipients must be residents of Monroe County, Michigan and a United States citizen. Part-time is defined as six (6) credit hours or more during the fall and winter semesters.

Scholarship to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicants must be a first time in any college (FTIAC) student who enrolls in an occupational program with the intent to complete a program of study at Monroe County Community College and immediately enter the workforce. Recipient must be a full-time student at MCCC during their scholarship year. Full-time enrollment is defined at twelve (12) billable contact hours or more during the fall and winter semesters. The scholarship will be awarded equally between two (2) consecutive school years and divided between each the fall and winter semesters of each year. The scholarship will be awarded to a first year incoming student who is a resident of Monroe County, Michigan, a United States citizen and a graduate of a Monroe County, Michigan high school. Preference should be given to a graduate of Dundee Community Schools, Dundee, Michigan. The recipient must have at least a 2.8 GPA. The scholarship will be renewed for a second year if the recipient has earned a minimum of twenty-four (24) billable contact hours and has maintained at least a 2.8 GPA.

Providing scholarship assistant for a student who has graduated from a Monroe County, Michigan high school, be enrolled full-time, be compatible with Rotary’s Core Values (integrity, service, fellowship, leadership and diversity), and must agree to attend a regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Monroe.

Providing scholarship assistance for a Monroe County, Michigan firefighter or the child or grandchild of a local (Monroe County) firefighter. Applicants must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan and enrolled a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester at MCCC. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Providing scholarship assistance for a returning, single parent in the CIS, EOS or accounting program. Applicant must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan. Applicant must have completed a minimum of ten (10) credit hours with a 2.5 GPA. Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of four (4) credit hours per semester during the award year.

Providing scholarship assistance for students with financial need.

The funds from this scholarship will provide support for veterans and/or their children attending MCCC on a full-time basis and to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Applicant must have received an honorable discharge and submit a copy of the veteran’s DD-214 to the Financial Aid Office. The applicant must be a Monroe County, Michigan, resident, must be graduating from high school and entering their first year of college at MCCC.

The scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees and books. Students applying must intend to pursue a career in education. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a resident of Monroe County, Michigan, a United States citizen and a graduate of a Monroe County, Michigan high school. Preference will be given to a graduate of Monroe Public Schools, Monroe, Michigan. Recipient must have and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. Financial need will be considered.

Scholarship for Monroe County, Michigan residents who are undergraduate students enrolled full-time at Monroe County Community College. Students must be over the age of 60. Number of awards and award amount may vary.

Providing scholarships for full-time (at least 12 credit hours per semester) students enrolled in either a Business or Computer Information Systems program. Applicants must have completed 24 credit hours or more to be eligible to apply and have a minimum 2.8 GPA. Applicant must be a Monroe County, Michigan resident and United States citizens.

Providing scholarships for second-year students enrolled in the Registered Nursing Program. Students must be Monroe County, Michigan residents and United States citizens. Recipient must maintain at least three-quarter-time (9 credit hours per semester) enrollment at MCCC during their scholarship year.

Provides scholarship(s) for active member(s) of MCCC Student Government for tuition, fees and books. Recipient must remain active during their scholarship year. Applicant must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and must submit an essay on the role Student Government plays and how their involvement has affected their life.

Providing scholarship assistance for part-time students pursuing a degree in the accounting field. Part-time is defined as six (6) credit hours per semester. Applicants must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan and a graduate of a Monroe County high school or completed a GED. Applicant must be a United States citizen. Applicant must have a 3.0 high school GPA or demonstrate promise and GPA improvement during their junior and senior years of high school.

Providing scholarship assistance for a student who is part of the MCCC Writing Fellows or a staff member on The Agora. Applicant must be enrolled part time (6 credit hours per semester) and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Recipient must be working part-time during their scholarship year. Part-time employment is defined as fifteen (15) hours per week. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student. Financial need is considered.

Providing annual scholarship assistance to a full-time student with expressed interest in and currently involved in community service. Preference given to St. Mary Catholic Central High School senior or a non-traditional student who has not earned a college degree (associate degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and/or doctorate.) Preference given to a student with no other scholarship. Students applying must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and maintain a GPA of 3.0 during the scholarship year. Applicants must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan and a United States citizen. Applicants/recipients may not be pursuing a degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology (NUET).

Students applying for the scholarship must have a 3.5 GPA or above and answer the first 2 essay questions on the general application (Please submit an essay outlining your educational and career goals.
