The American Indian Education Fund was established to support educational opportunities for American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian students. Our vision is strong, self-sufficient American Indian communities. The Undergraduate Scholarship service supports educational opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native students by awarding more than 200 scholarships annually. We also offer a free guide to help Native Americans pursue higher education. The Lawyers of Distinction Scholarship was founded to help college students achieve their dreams without having to worry about the financial burden of whether or not they will be able to afford school. It’s no secret that education fees are outrageous, and we want to play a part in supporting future generations. Each year we will award one student with a $1,000 scholarship. ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES APPLICATION PROCESS Once the application period has concluded, one of our Scholarship Committee members will review all applications and select one winner to receive the $1,000 scholarship. Dan Gilstrap was born and raised in Wyoming. In 1983, he moved to Billings, Montana, and started working in hospital maintenance; later, he worked as a mechanic for a road construction company. Dan bought Meadow Green Lawn Service in 1998. He put many hours of hard work into his business and was so proud of it; every customer was important to him. Dan was a self-educated man and a “jack of many trades.” He truly loved spending time with family and friends in the outdoors and was liked and loved by all he met. His greatest passions were hunting, fishing, and camping. Dan passed away at age 55 in an accident while doing what he loved – ice fishing. In memory of Dan, Bob Gilstrap and family, along with Montana Pikemasters – Billings Chapter originally established the Daniel Gilstrap Memorial Scholarship to provide financial assistance to City College students. MSAWWA and MWEA are equal partners in offering the Donald G. Willems Scholarship. One or two scholarships are offered annually to students whose course work leads to employment in the water and wastewater fields, which are highly diverse, including specialization in water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, water resources, watershed protection, groundwater remediation, and many other subdisciplines, including for example, the study of waterborne disease. Each award includes a scholarship of $1500 to be used toward the cost of education, such as tuition, books, and supplies. Recipients also receive a one-year student membership to either AWWA or WEF (recipient’s choice), and also paid registration and lodging for the MSAWWA/MWEA Joint Conference. We are proud to announce our Second Annual Scholarship Competition. This year’s competition highlights the importance of avoiding distractions while driving. The next generation of lawyers stands at the threshold of a new world that will be built with innovative ideas and fresh perspectives. We want to hear from you – current and prospective law students – to help formulate a solution to a dangerous activity that many Americans undertake far too often: texting while driving. Recent studies demonstrate that texting while driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving or driving while under the influence of drugs. The chance of getting into a car accident is 20 times greater when a driver is texting. In fact, a texting driver is impaired to the same degree as a driver with a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent, the legal limit in most states. New York State and many other states have enacted laws designed to prevent car accidents caused by texting and driving, but these laws can only help so much. It is up to everyday Americans to change their behavior to reduce this epidemic of distracted driving. Accordingly, to encourage students to participate in a safer society with fewer drivers distracted by text messages – and to help secure the education and tools needed to bring about a safer future – we are selecting two winners for this year’s scholarship competition. Fletcher Courtnage-McKinsey (1992-2013) was a young man whose life was cut short just as he was preparing to begin his higher education. The Fletcher Courtnage-McKinsey Foundation, Inc. was created in his memory. ELIGIBILITY In order to be eligible for the Worgul, Sarna & Ness, Criminal Defense Attorneys, LLC scholarship program, applicants must: Be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college, university, or graduate school across the United States. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Has demonstrated outstanding service to the community, high initiative to further their education, and a strong academic performance. REQUIREMENTS All applicants need to submit the following documents for consideration: A high school, undergraduate, or graduate school transcript. An unofficial version is acceptable. A letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member. An attached application form. Essay – must be between 300-500 words on the following topic: There have been many public service campaigns about the dangers of drinking and driving; however, people continue to make the unfortunate decision to drink and get behind the wheel. Write an essay about the reasons why people continue to drink and drive – and what initiatives could be executed to address those reasons. The Worth It scholarship program, sponsored by UFG Insurance, gives qualifying high school seniors or current undergraduates an opportunity to reflect on why staying focused while driving is worth it. UFG has partnered with Scholarship America® to administer this scholarship program. This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin. Applicants to the Worth It Scholarship Program must: Be high school seniors or graduates, or current post-secondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent). As part of your application, you must upload a current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.

Required Qualifications: Sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student status; Full-time student; Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Counseling and Rehabilitation, Psychology, Sociology, or Criminal Justice; Resident of Yellowstone County, Montana.

Required Qualifications: Pursuing a degree in Nursing; Sophomore, junior, or senior status; Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA; Enrolled in and successfully complete a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester (fall and spring). Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrate financial need. 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.

Women students in Yellowstone, Big Horn, Carbon, Custer, Musselshell, Rosebud and Stillwater Counties who meet the criteria for consideration, are enrolled or planning to attend MSU Billings, Rocky Mountain College, or Miles Community College, and who have not previously been awarded a Salute to Students Scholarship. Criteria for Consideration 1. Application and other required materials received at YWCA Billings by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. 2. Two letters of recommendation and completed essays that demonstrate the student’s dedication to the YWCA Mission to save and change lives through: • Empowering women • Building strong families for a better community • Working for peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all 3. A minimum 3.0 GPA (or Montana HiSET score equivalent) and a record of self-motivation and perseverance in the academic environment. Performance is based on the academic transcript and letters of recommendation. 4. An in-person interview for those selected as semi-finalists. Not all applicants will be interviewed.
