Scholarships at William Paterson University of New Jersey

The Alumni Association Undergraduate Fellowship, valued at more than $11,000, is funded by the Alumni Association to assist and reward a bright and promising undergraduate student at William Paterson University. The Alumni Association Undergraduate Fellow will receive a $7,500 scholarship, textbook reimbursement up to $300 per semester, a stipend of approximately $3,000+ for 15-20 hours per week of employment with the Office of Alumni Relations, and valuable experience in computer applications, research, writing, fundraising management, office administration, and public relations. The successful applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student who will complete their sophomore year by of the end of the current spring semester with at least 24 credits taken at William Paterson University, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, and satisfactory Alumni Relations Office performance standards. Financial need is not an eligibility criterion; however, this Fellowship may affect eligibility for financial aid from other sources (i.e., through the William Paterson University Office of Financial Aid). Students must be available to work 15-20 hours per week in the Office of Alumni Relations; students who are student teaching, engaged in an internship, or not available during regular business hours are not eligible. Finalists will be contacted by the Alumni Association selection committee to schedule an in-person interview in August; students wishing to be considered must be available during that period.*

The 2022 Class Gift Annual Scholarship is funded by contributions from the graduating class for students who are of senior status, in good academic standing, have financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), and are involved members of the campus community, which may include employment on campus.

The Aaron and Jacqueline Van Duyne Oncology Nursing Endowed Scholarship was established by Aaron ’75 and Jacqueline Van Duyne for full-time students who are majoring in nursing and are dedicated to oncology nursing.

The Aaron Essner Disability Studies Annual Scholarship is funded by Aaron Essner for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring or minoring in disability studies, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government); preference may be given to a student majoring in disability studies.

The Aaron L. Rubin Endowed Scholarship was established by Jacob Rubin in memory of his brother for students who are enrolled in the Honors College and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3; financial need and academic achievement are taken into consideration.

The Abe, Sarah and Gitl Bialer Opera Endowed Scholarship was established by Tami Cotsakos ’71 in honor of her aunts and uncle for a full-time student who is majoring in music performance, with a concentration in voice, and is pursuing a career in opera; this scholarship may be renewed if the student maintains full-time status and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. The recipient of the scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Academic Achievement Annual Scholarship is funded by the Alumni Association for students of sophomore status or higher who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0

The Access Wealth Planning/EKS Associates Annual Scholarship is funded by Access Wealth Planning for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in financial planning, is in good academic standing, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The ADP Foundation Business Annual Scholarship is funded by the ADP Foundation for full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Advancement Division Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson University’s Division of Institutional Advancement for students of junior or senior status, with preference given to students who demonstrate a background in community service, especially of a philanthropic nature.

The Agnes C. Grimshaw Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Agnes Grimshaw ’25 for a student who demonstrates scholastic ability, with preference given to a student majoring in biology or chemistry.

The Aires Annual Scholarship is funded by Jean Aires ’64, ’88 for a full-time, undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, with preference given to a student whose second major is history.

The Alan J. Anderson Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of Alan J. Anderson ’81 in his memory for full-time undergraduate students of junior or senior status who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, are involved in extracurricular activities, and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Alexander F. Landi Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by Margaret Landi ’74 in memory of her father for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health and demonstrates academic merit based on a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, with preference given to a student majoring in biology.

The Ali M. Albaluchi Endowed Scholarship was established by Ali Albaluchi ’77, ’78 MA for a deserving William Paterson student.

The Alice Meeker Endowed Scholarship was established for a full-time student of junior or senior status who is pursuing teacher certification, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need.

The Alice Waldron Endowed Scholarship was established by former William Paterson University President Dr. Kathleen Waldron in memory of her aunt for a full-time undergraduate student who demonstrates academic achievement with a minimum high school grade point average of 3.2 as an entering freshman or a 3.3 cumulative grade point average as a continuing undergraduate student, financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), community involvement for the betterment of William Paterson University, and is from the city of Paterson, New Jersey.

The Allan and Michele Gorab Endowed Scholarship was established by Allan ’72 and Michele Gorab for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, is on track to graduate in four years (i.e., completing a minimum of 30 credits per academic year), and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a first-generation student of sophomore status or higher; this scholarship may be renewed.

The Allen and Lette Magrini Endowed Scholarship was established by Allen and Lette Magrini for a student who demonstrates financial need.

The Alphonse M. Brancone Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is of junior status or higher, in the pre-medical pre-professional track, plans to attend medical school, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; this scholarship is renewable assuming the recipient reapplies and continues to meet the criteria.

The Alumni Business Endowed Scholarship was established by Jeffrey ’80 and Annie ’15 Millar for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business and maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75, with preference given to a student who is non-traditional (in age, family status, career path, etc.) and is a U.S. citizen; financial need is not necessarily a factor.

The Alumni Incentive Grant is funded by the William Paterson University Alumni Association for deserving William Paterson students; recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and may be full-time or part-time, though full-time students are preferred. This scholarship is awarded by the Division of Enrollment Management.

The Alvin Rosenberg Annual Scholarship is funded by the late Dr. Leonard B. Rosenberg for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student majoring in history.

The Amos Kaune Jazz Annual Scholarship is funded by David McLean ’64 for a student who is in the jazz studies program and is in good academic standing. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Andrew B. Crawford, Jr. Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of Andrew B. Crawford, Jr. ’01 in his memory for a student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, is involved in extracurricular activities, and demonstrates financial need.

The Aniello Pesce Annual Scholarship is funded by Will ’73 and Henrietta ’72 Pesce in honor of Will’s father for a first-generation college student who completes outstanding academic work in the Cotsakos College of Business.

The Aniello Pesce Endowed Scholarship was established by John Wiley & Sons Inc. on the occasion of the retirement of William Pesce ’73 in honor of Will’s father for a first-generation college student who completes outstanding academic work in the Cotsakos College of Business.

The Ann S. Pessolano Endowed Scholarship was established by Anthony Pessolano ‘80 and the Pepsi Bottling Company in honor of Anthony’s mother for a meritorious student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need, with preference given to a student who resides in an urban community and is enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business or pursuing a teaching degree in math or science.

The Anna Freund Endowed Scholarship was established by Anna Freund ’63 and friends for an undergraduate student, with preference given to a non-traditional or female student.

The Anne E. Chabora CRT ’33 Annual Scholarship is funded by Dr. Peter C. Chabora ’62 in memory of his mother, Anne E. Chabora, a career special education teacher who died in 1995 for a full-time undergraduate student who is of senior status, enrolled in the College of Education, pursuing a career in special education, and demonstrates academic achievement with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who is involved in education-related extracurricular or community service activities.

The Anthony and Kathleen Coletta Annual Scholarship is funded by Tony ’64 and Kathy ’76 Coletta for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring in early childhood education or elementary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who will be taking the Praxis Core, Praxis Subject Assessment, or American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview and Written Proficiency Test in the coming year; this scholarship can be used beyond the direct cost of attendance.

The Approvato Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Davonna Approvato ’13, ’17 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Arab American Endowed Scholarship provides support for undergraduate students with financial need who seek to become leaders in their disciplines and contribute to their community. The scholarships are open to full-time incoming freshman, transfer, and matriculated students. Citizenship is not a requirement; students with international or refugee status are eligible. The factors considered for selection include the following: Arab American descent and/or demonstrated interest in Arab-American studies and communities; demonstrated financial need; and demonstrated commitment to developing as a leader in the discipline of their choice, to enhancing their own and Arab communities around the world, and to substantially contributing to the social and intellectual development of those communities, now and in the future. These scholarships are renewable for a period of four years not to exceed eight academic semesters, if the recipient remains full time, (12 credits or more), in good standing, and continues to meet all scholarship criteria. Only one applicant per family will be considered.

The Arlene and Helmut Schreiber Endowed Scholarship was established by Arlene ’53 and Helmut Schreiber for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a student majoring in elementary education.

The Arlene Siver Pampinella Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by Phil Pampinella in memory of his wife Arlene ’61 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in English and secondary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who is minoring in communication disorders and sciences.

The Arnold and Myrna Speert Endowed Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Arnold and Myrna Speert for deserving William Paterson University students, with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need.

The Art Farmer Jazz Master Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of one of the most respected and original modern jazz trumpeters, Art Farmer, for a full-time undergraduate student studying jazz, with a preference for a trumpeter who demonstrates extraordinary musical talent and academic achievement with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Arthur M. Acquaviva Endowed Scholarship was established by the estate of Arthur M. Acquaviva ’75 for deserving William Paterson University students, with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need.

The ASPIRE Annual Scholarship is funded by alumni and friends for students who participate in the ASPIRE summer career readiness program. The recipients of this scholarship are selected at the end of the ASPIRE program.

The Audrey and Albert Pelham Endowed Scholarship was established by Professor Sally Hand for a deserving William Paterson student, with preference given to an African American student who is a graduate from an inner-city high school or returning to college to complete his/her degree; the scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the student maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 the first year and 2.75 for subsequent years.

The Barbara Duffy Nursing Annual Scholarship is funded by Bill and Barbara ’81 Duffy for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in nursing and maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Barbara I. (Bogle) Brancone Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is of junior status or higher, majoring in nursing, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; this scholarship is renewable assuming the recipient reapplies and continues to meet the criteria.

The Barbara Leff Endowed Scholarship was established by Barbara Leff ’56 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Barbara M. Grant Endowed Scholarship was established by Barbara M. Grant ’54 for full-time undergraduate students who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Barbarito Family Endowed Scholarship was established for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in nursing, is a U.S. citizen, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, and has completed a minimum of 60 credits and is ready for UDC I.

The Baucus & Co. Endowed Student Financial Aid Scholarship was established by generous friends of the University for matriculated full-time undergraduate students who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The BD Endowed Scholarship was established by Becton Dickinson (BD) for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health and maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a female student who participates in the WISE Program; this scholarship can be used beyond the direct cost of attendance.

The Beauty by Imagination Annual Scholarship is funded by the J & D Brush Company for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a minority student.

The Beder Family Nursing Annual Scholarship is funded in honor of Adam Beder ’99 for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is majoring in nursing, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Ben Shahn Gallery Endowed Scholarship was established by the friends and patrons of Ben Shahn Gallery for a student who is majoring in art and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Benjamin Ladson Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of Benjamin Ladson in his memory for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, is majoring in political science, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who is active in student government and/or political science-related clubs and who demonstrates leadership and character through participation in extracurricular or community service activities.

The Bernard J. Milano/KPMG Endowed Scholarship was established by Bernard J. Milano for a student who is majoring in accounting, has completed at least 60 credit hours, and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 in their major and 3.3 overall.

The Better Life Foundation Endowed Music Scholarship was established by the Better Life Foundation and 3 Doors Down for an incoming or matriculated full-time undergraduate student who is majoring or minoring in music and entertainment industries and demonstrates academic and musical achievement with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0; this scholarship can be renewed should the current recipient meet the qualifications. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Beverly J. Armento Endowed Scholarship was established by Beverly Armento ’63 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who graduated from a high school in an urban area and/or currently resides in an urban area and who plans to teach in an urban area. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the College of Education.

The Bill Graham Annual Scholarship is funded by Bill Graham ’64, MA ’68 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Bishop Rodimer and Father Scurti Catholic Campus Ministry Endowed Scholarship is for a deserving William Paterson student, with preference given to a student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and participates in the social, service, self-awareness (retreats, leadership, SGA) and/or spiritual programs of the Catholic Campus Ministry Club; students of all faiths are eligible for this scholarship.

The Blasko-Fego Endowed Scholarship was established by Mary Anne ’80 and Paul Fego for an undergraduate or graduate student who is studying special education, with preference given to a first-generation college student.

The Blue Earth Labs Annual Scholarship is funded by Kenneth Juillet ’82 for a full-time undergraduate student or a full-time or part-time graduate student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a student majoring in chemistry, and for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a student majoring in professional sales.

The Bolyai Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Stephen and Annette Bolyai for deserving William Paterson University students, with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Brad Neilley Sr. Endowed Scholarship was established by Brad ’82 and Cathy Neilley for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to African American students.

The Bueno Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Amable Bueno ’02 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in finance, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a Latinx student.

The C. Kent Warner Annual Scholarship was established in honor of C. Kent Warner, the first Chair of the Department of Science and Mathematics at Paterson State College, for full-time undergraduate students who are majoring in biology or biotechnology and demonstrate superior academic achievement with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The recipients of this scholarship are selected by the Department of Biology.

The Caring Cetera Diversity in Financial Planning Annual Scholarship is funded by Caring Cetera for a full-time undergraduate student of junior status who is majoring in financial planning, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to students who participate in William Paterson’s Financial Planning Club or who participate in other related extracurricular activities (i.e., Accounting Society; Student Investment Club; Student Government Association), and/or are members or involved in activities of financial planning professional organizations (i.e., The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors – NAPFA; Financial Planning Association – FPA; Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards – CFP), and/or have a financial planning-related internship or professional work experience, and are minority, female, and/or LGBTQ, and with strong preference given to students who demonstrate a leadership role in extracurricular activities; this scholarship may be renewed for the student’s senior year.

The Carol and Ken Trella Annual Scholarship is funded by Nicole ’97 and Scott Trella, in memory of Carol and Ken Trella, for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with primary preference for a student majoring in biology and secondary preference for a student majoring in nursing.

The Carol Katharyn Henderson Strobel Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of 1965 alumna Carol Katharyn Henderson Strobel by her husband Darrell for a full-time undergraduate student who has a declared major in the Department of Languages and Cultures or a minor in French, demonstrates academic achievement in the area of language study, has completed at least 30 credits, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who is enrolled in the French language minor.

The Casey Zimmer Annual Scholarship is funded in his memory by Christopher Vancheri ’99 and his parents Nancy Zimmer and Gregory Zimmer for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in communication, is a U.S. citizen and first-generation college student, works full-time or part-time, and is involved in extracurricular activities, with preference given to freshmen and to students who have a concentration in journalism or public relations.

The Charles Allen Anderson Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by Charles Allen Anderson ’29 for students who are majoring in elementary education, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, have completed at least 24 credits, and demonstrate civil or community involvement, with preference given to African American students.

The Charles F. and Roberta A. Kugelmeyer Annual Scholarship for the Arts is funded by Charles ’62 and Roberta ’72 Kugelmeyer for a student who is majoring in art.

The Charles R. Middleton Endowed Scholarship in Higher Education Leadership is funded by William Paterson University President Dr. Richard Helldobler and Mr. Robert E. Brown III in honor of Dr. Charles Middleton, president emeritus of Roosevelt University and mentor to Dr. Helldobler for a graduate student who is enrolled in the Higher Education Leadership program, taking a minimum of 6 credit hours, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given, but not limited to students involved in LGBTQ University activities.

The Charlotte P. and Louis Y. Sirota Endowed Scholarship was established by David and Fredric Sirota in memory of their parents for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student from any of the three academies at Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey (Information Technology, School of Government & Public Administration, or the School of Culinary Arts, Hospitality & Tourism).

The Chemistry Faculty Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate or full-time or part-time graduate student who is majoring in chemistry, in good academic standing with the Department of Chemistry, carrying out faculty-approved laboratory research, participating in service and leadership activities for the chemistry community at large, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to minority students. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Chemistry.

The Chitfu Yu Annual Scholarship is funded in honor of Mr. Chitfu Yu to provide support to encourage Chinese-American exchange, study abroad opportunities, and/or the study of Chinese culture, history, or art at William Paterson University.

The Chris McCollum Annual Scholarship is funded by Christine ’90 and David Cooke in honor of Chris McCollum ’92 for an undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and resides in Jersey City, with a secondary consideration given to a student from Hudson County, and preference given to a minority student; special consideration is given to any student who comes from a single parent home and/or demonstrates financial need.

The Clair B. Wightman Endowed Scholarship, in memory of Dr. Clair B. Wightman, former president of Paterson State Teachers College, was established by his wife Florence B. Wightman and daughter Carol W. Watkins for a graduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, with preference given to a student in the Educational Leadership program; part-time students may be eligible but the award will be pro-rated to the number of credits taken each semester.

The Clarity Labs Annual Scholarship is funded by Rayed Zarzar and Arpit Patel for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student majoring in chemistry or biotechnology.

The Class of 1962 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1962 for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing.

The Class of 1963 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1963 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and is pursuing a career in teaching.

The Class of 1964 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1964 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and is in clinical practice (student teaching).

The Class of 1965 Endowed Commuter Scholarship was established by William Paterson graduates of 1965 for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing and commutes to campus.

The Class of 1966 Endowed Scholarship was established by William Paterson graduates of 1966 for a full-time student who demonstrates academic promise and financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a first-generation college student.

The Class of 1967 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1967 for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing.

The Class of 1968 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1968 for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing.

The Class of 1969 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1969 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and is in clinical practice (student teaching).

The Class of 1970 Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson graduates of 1970 for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing and commutes to campus.

The Class of 1973-74 Endowed Scholarship was established by William Paterson graduates of 1973 and 1974 for a deserving student.

The Coffaro Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Gina ’90, MEd ’94 and Nicholas Coffaro for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary education or early childhood education, studying special education and intends to become a special education teacher, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Colby Vanderbeck Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by Ed Vanderbeck in memory of his son, Colby, for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled in a health science major (nursing, public health, communication disorders and sciences, or biology with a concentration in pre-medical professions), has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Collage Concert Music Endowed Scholarship is a one-year scholarship for continuing music majors who have been enrolled for a minimum of one semester within the past academic year; academic achievement, musical ability, and department need will be considerations when determining the recipient who will be selected with input from the entire faculty to the scholarship committee. The recipients of this scholarship are selected by the Department of Music.

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Student Internship Annual Scholarship is funded for students who are enrolled in majors in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and qualify for an internship. This scholarship is awarded by the Dean, Associate Dean, and Department Chairs of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The College of Education General Annual Scholarship is funded by contributions from alumni, parents, and friends for deserving students in the College of Education.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences General Annual Scholarship is funded by contributions from alumni, parents, and friends for deserving students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The College of Science and Health General Annual Scholarship is funded by contributions from alumni, parents, and friends for deserving students in the College of Science and Health.

The College of the Arts and Communication General Annual Scholarship is funded by contributions from alumni, parents, and friends for deserving students in the College of the Arts and Communication.

The College of the Arts and Communication Student Internship Annual Scholarship is funded for students who are enrolled in majors in the Departments of Art, Communication, or Music and qualify for an internship. This scholarship is awarded by the Chairs of the Departments of Art, Communication, and Music.

The Community Service Annual Scholarship is funded by the Alumni Association for students who are of sophomore status or higher, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, are heavily involved in campus activities, and demonstrate financial need.

The Connor G. Walsh Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by Alice Gorczycki in memory of her son Connor, for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in criminology and criminal justice and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a male student.

The Corrado Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Suzette ’86, MEd ’92 and Mark Corrado for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education and intends to become a teacher, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Cotsakos College of Business Accounting Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is of junior or senior status, majoring in accounting, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Cotsakos College of Business COIN Project Annual Scholarship is funded by sponsors of the COIN (Career Outlook and Industry Networking) boot camp for students who participate in the boot camp. The recipients of this scholarship are selected at the end of the COIN boot camp by the Cotsakos College of Business.

The Cotsakos College of Business General Annual Scholarship is funded by contributions from alumni, parents, and friends for deserving students in the Cotsakos College of Business.

The Cotsakos College of Business Sales Triathlon Annual Scholarship is funded by sponsors of the Russ Berrie Institute Sales Triathlon for students who complete the competition and are present at the closing ceremonies. The recipients of this scholarship are selected at the conclusion of the Sales Triathlon by the Cotsakos College of Business.

The Cotsakos College of Business Student Internship Annual Scholarship is for students who are enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business and qualify for an internship.

The Cotsakos Family Endowed Scholarship was established by Christos ’73 and Tami ’71 Cotsakos for students who reside in Paterson, New Jersey and demonstrate financial need.

The Crump Family Nursing Annual Scholarship is funded by Barbara Crump ’87 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in nursing and has completed at least one semester of nursing clinical experience, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to an African American student.

The Cruz-Mills Annual Scholarship is funded by Rashard Mills ’10 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), and lives in Paterson, New Jersey.

The de Veyga Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Guillermo “Will” de Veyga for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a first-generation college student, a student who is a New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) approved Dreamer, a student who is active in a Hispanic student organization, and/or a student who is a single parent.

The Dennis and Carole Vroegindewey Annual Scholarship is funded by Dennis ’71, MA ’81, MED ’81 and Carole Vroegindewey for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing, with preference given to a first-generation college student.

The Dennis Carrigan and Patricia Powell Endowed Scholarship for Financial Planning was established by Dennis Carrigan and Patricia Powell ‘73 for a student who is enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business, with a strong preference for a student who is majoring in financial planning and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0; financial need is not necessarily an eligibility criterion but involvement in extracurricular activities related to financial planning is taken into consideration.

The Dennis Giordano Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of Dennis Giordano ’67, ’81 for a full-time student who is enrolled in the College of Education and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Dennis Seale Endowed Scholarship was created in his honor by Dr. Christos ’73 and Tami ’71 Cotsakos for full-time or part-time graduate students in the Cotsakos College of Business Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, with preference given to students in the entrepreneurship concentration and to veterans.

The Diane A. Koonjy Pre-Law Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of Diane A. Koonjy ’83 for full-time students who are preparing for law school as legal studies majors or minors, or who are in another discipline but engaged in the William Paterson University pre-law program, with preference given to female students.

The Diane Kalish Endowed Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Professor Diane Kalish in her memory for a full-time undergraduate student who demonstrates academic achievement in mathematics with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given, but not limited to a female student. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

The Diversity and Inclusion Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is of junior or senior status, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a minority student and to a student who has demonstrated an interest in furthering the conversation of social justice, equity and diversity as shown by academic and extracurricular activities.

The Division of Enrollment Management Annual Scholarship is funded by Dr. Reginald Ross, in honor of the Enrollment Management team, for a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing, with preference given to a New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) approved Dreamer.

The Dominic Baccollo/SGA Endowed Scholarship was established for a student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.35 and is involved in student activities.

The Donald Duclos Endowed Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Donald Duclos for a full-time student who is of senior status, majoring in English, and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a student who is involved in extracurricular activities and demonstrates financial need.

The Donna Perry Endowed Scholarship was established by Professor Emerita Donna Perry for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in the liberal arts, social sciences, humanities, education, or (hard) sciences and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a first-generation college student from Paterson or other urban area and a female student.

The Dorothy Sohn Endowed Scholarship was established by the Sohn/Pedroza family in loving memory of Dorothy Sohn, who enrolled in college at the age of fifty to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, and whose passion for learning continued her entire life, for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is majoring in nursing and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a non-traditional age female student; if no non-traditional female nursing student is eligible, then the preferred recipient can be enrolled in the College of Science and Health, with preference given to a non-traditional age female.

The Dorothy Vernon Westdyke ’64 Endowed Scholarship was established by Dorothy Vernon Westdyke ’64 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a student who graduated from Passaic High School or Hawthorne High School in New Jersey.

The Dr. Arlene Holpp Scala Annual Scholarship was established by William Paterson alumni and faculty in honor of Dr. Arlene Holpp Scala for a full-time student of junior status or higher who is majoring in women’s and gender studies, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75, and demonstrates financial need.

The Dr. Benjamin Burton Health and Science Student Annual Scholarship is funded by Dr. Benjamin Burton for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in a major in the Department of Kinesiology, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who demonstrates leadership and a commitment to their field of study through related extracurricular or community service activities, internships, or work experience.

The Dr. Earl G. LeDet Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by Maureen Conway ’66 in memory of her husband to provide scholarly support to a student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need, with preference given to African American students, and strong preference given to an African American male who is majoring in computer science or mathematics or participates in William Paterson’s pre-engineering program.

The Dr. Edith W. Wallace Annual Scholarship is funded by the Master Gardener Association of Passaic County for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in biology, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, lives in Passaic County, New Jersey, is pursuing plant-associated studies (i.e., through coursework or fieldwork), is involved in extracurricular activities, and works full-time or part-time. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Biology.

The Dr. Gabriel Vitalone Annual Scholarship is funded by Thomas De Stefano ’67, ’75 in honor of Professor Emeritus Dr. Gabriel Vitalone for a student who is in good academic standing, demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), and lives in Paterson, New Jersey, with preference given to a student in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The Dr. Joan Feeley Endowed Scholarship was established in her honor by Karen ’79 and Nat Cheney for full-time undergraduate or full-time or part-time graduate students who are enrolled in the College of Education and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0; awards will not be pro-rated for part-time graduate students.

The Dr. Karl Lunde Endowed Scholarship was established by Professor George C. Robb for a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring in art, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who is majoring in art history; this scholarship is renewable should the recipient continue to meet the stated criteria.

The Dr. Kathleen Waldron Scholarship is funded by former William Paterson University President Dr. Kathleen Waldron for first-time, fall term, regularly admitted freshmen, with preference given to students who have been high academic achievers in high school; the scholarship is renewable for up to four years if a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 is maintained. The recipients of this scholarship are selected by the Enrollment Management division.

The Dr. Kenneth and Dr. Amy Job Endowed Scholarship was established by William Paterson alumni and friends in honor of professor emeritus Dr. Kenneth Job and University librarian Dr. Amy Job for an undergraduate student who is of junior or senior status, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, is majoring in history or geography, and plans to become a teacher.

The Dr. Leola G. Hayes Endowed Scholarship was established by Spurgeon Hayes in memory of his wife for a student who is of freshman status, majoring in special education, and demonstrates financial need.

The Dr. Margaret O’Connor Annual Scholarship is funded by family and friends in memory of associate professor emeritus Dr. Margaret O’Connor for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in music education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government). The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Dr. Marjorie Heller Endowed Education Scholarship was established by Dr. Marjorie Heller ’62 for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, pursuing teacher certification, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Dr. Paul and Patricia Chao Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Professor Paul Chao for a student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need, with preference given to a student who is majoring or minoring in Africana world studies.

The Dr. Robert C. Leppert Annual Scholarship is funded by Victoria Franke ’70 for a student who is majoring in English, with preference given to a student involved in theater.

The Edna and Walter Bandel Music Annual Scholarship is funded by Barbara ’78 and Richard Stomber in memory of Barbara’s parents for a talented music student, with preference given to a student who demonstrates financial need. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Edward A. Thompson Endowed Scholarship was established by Emma Thompson in memory of Edward A. Thompson ’78 for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who demonstrates outstanding talent in jazz performance and academic promise with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2, maintains continuous enrollment, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government). The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Electra Rodriguez Education Annual Scholarship is funded by Susana Peron ’93, in memory of her grandmother, for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in early childhood education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a minority student.

The Ellen J. Griffith Annual Scholarship is funded by Ellen J. Griffith ’83 for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is of junior or senior status, majoring in accounting, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, employed at least part-time, demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), and is a U.S. citizen and permanent resident of New Jersey; preference may be given to a student who is female, involved in community service, and/or involved in LGBTQ activities.

The Ellie and Sophie Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson University Professor Kelly McNeal for a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is in good academic standing, with preference given to a non-traditional female student.

The Emilia and Jack Waldron Endowed Scholarship was established by former William Paterson University President Dr. Kathleen Waldron in memory of her parents for first-time, fall term, regularly admitted freshmen. The recipients of this scholarship are selected by the Division of Enrollment Management.

The Emily Desbiens Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of William Paterson student Emily Desbiens in her memory for a student who is enrolled in the Honors College and demonstrates commitment and engagement in the community and supports the aspirations of women, with preference given to a female student.

The Esther Martinez Latin American and Latinx Studies Memorial Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring or minoring in Latin American and Latino studies, in good academic standing, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Evelyn Foote Endowed Scholarship is funded by the estate of George F. Foote in memory of his sister Evelyn W. Foote ’43 for a student who is planning to be an elementary school teacher.

The Family Member Annual Scholarship is funded by the Alumni Association for full-time undergraduate students who are of sophomore status or higher, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, are immediate family members of William Paterson University alumni, and participate in school-related extracurricular activities.

The Fiftieth Reunion Endowed Scholarship was established by alumni in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of their graduation from William Paterson; the recipient is chosen on a rotating basis from the University’s four colleges.

The Financial Planning Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson financial planning alumni and students for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in financial planning and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Florida Alumni Endowed Scholarship was established by William Paterson alumni residing in Florida for a student who comes from Florida.

The Fort P. Manno Annual Scholarship is funded in honor of Dr. Fort P. Manno, retired professor of English and mentor in the former SOUL program, for a full-time undergraduate student who is of sophomore status or higher, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, demonstrates progress towards a degree and academic potential, demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), is a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident, and may be from a disadvantaged background.

The Fran Gesner Memorial Endowed Scholarship is for a full-time student in the communication disorders and sciences graduate program who resides in Passaic County, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2, and has completed a minimum of 6 graduate credits.

The Frances Dinino Powers Annual Scholarship in Memory of Jasper Dinino is funded by Frances Dinino Powers ’62, in memory of her father, for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in early childhood education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student from Clifton, New Jersey.

Francesco Tauro Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of Francesco Tauro for a full-time undergraduate student who is of sophomore status or higher, enrolled in the College of Education, and has a minimum cumultive grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a student who graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey.

The Francis and Jayne McEnerney Annual Scholarship is funded by Francis ’79 and Jayne McEnerney for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Frank and Mary Hoenigmann Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by William J. Hoenigmann, in memory of his parents, for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who is majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or computer science and to a minority student.

The Fred and Jean Mechanic Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by Jack and Kathleen Mechanic for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.65 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with primary preference given to a student who is a single parent and/or secondary preference given to a student who is serving in the Army Reserve or National Guard or is a US Armed Forces veteran with an honorable discharge. Note: if awarded this scholarship, the student must provide proof of their good standing by presenting a Commander Certificate of Eligibility or other documentation from his/her non-commanding officer or proof of honorable discharge by submitting a DD-214 form.

The Fred C. Rummel Annual Scholarship is funded by The Fred C. Rummel Foundation for full-time undergraduate students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and character through community service or activities, and reside in Essex or Union counties, with preference given to financially needy students enrolled in the Honors College; scholarships may be renewable if a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is maintained. The recipients of this scholarship are selected by the Honors College.

The Frederick and Susan Gruel Endowed Scholarship was established by William Paterson University Board of Trustees and Foundation Board member Fred Gruel for full-time undergraduate students who maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, are first-generation college students, and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government); preference may be given to “traditional” undergraduate students.

The Future Educator Annual Scholarship is funded by Sabrina Burnett-Williams ’03 for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, is studying special education, and intends to become a special education teacher.

The Gabriel and Evelyn Vitalone Annual Scholarship is funded by Professor Emeritus Dr. Gabriel and Evelyn Vitalone for a student who resides in Paterson, New Jersey, with preference given to a student who is pursuing a career in teaching.

The Gabriela Salvador ’16 Communication Annual Scholarship is funded by Gabriela Salvador ’16 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in communication, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who has a concentration in media production.

The Gary Hutton Endowed Scholarship was established by the friends of Gary Hutton ’73 in his memory for a student who is in good academic standing and shows satisfactory progress toward a degree, with preference given to an African American student majoring in music.

The Gay Lynn (Ranges) and Mel Jackson Endowed Scholarship was established by Gay Lynn ’68 and Mel Jackson for students who are enrolled in the College of Science and Health and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25.

The Gene J. Bertoncini Music Annual Scholarship was established in honor of William Paterson faculty member Gene J. Bertoncini, “The Segovia of Jazz,” for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring in music education, jazz studies, or music performance, has a minimum cumulative grade point average 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to guitarists. Recipient(s) will be selected based on musical talent, academic success, and financial need. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The George and Dorothy Hennings Endowed Science Scholarship was established by Dorothy Hennings for students who are engaged in research in a science discipline in the College of Science and Health. This scholarship is awarded by the Dean, Associate Dean, and Department Chairs of the College of Science and Health.

The George Ungaro Annual Scholarship for Voice is funded by Susan ’75 and Colin Ungaro ’75, in memory of George Ungaro, for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in music performance, with a concentration in voice, with preference given to a student who is studying opera, shows great musical promise, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government). The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Gerald X. Mault Memorial Annual Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Gerald Mault for a student who is enrolled in the College of Education.

The Gerhard W. Vosshall Endowed Scholarship was established by Peter Vosshall in memory of his father for a student who is enrolled in the jazz studies program. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Geri Berhain Education Annual Scholarship is funded by Geri Berhain ’71, Med ’78 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to students from Hasbrouck Heights, Wood-Ridge, or Moonachie, New Jersey.

The Give Something Back Foundation Scholarship was funded by the Give Something Back Foundation for tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board for deserving students.

The Grace Waldron DeGraaf Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Grace Waldron DeGraaf ’36 for a full-time student who is pursuing a career in education and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Gregory D’Alessio Endowed Scholarship was established by Gregory D’Alessio ’73, MA ’77 for a full-time undergraduate student who has an interest in pursuing a career in the public sector or community service, is majoring in political science, sociology, or urban science and society and/or minoring in political science, sociology, public policy and administration, social justice studies, or urban studies, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, is of sophomore, junior, or senior status, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who participates in extracurricular or community service activities.

The Gunvor G. Satra Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship was established by Professor Gunvor Satra for students who have been accepted and will be participating in the study abroad program at William Paterson University, with preference given to students in a year-long or semester-long program and for whom such participation represents financial hardship. The recipient of this scholarship will be selected in conjunction with the Office of International Students and Scholars.

The Harold and Queenie Gantert Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by Debra Gantert ’77 in memory of her parents for a full-time undergraduate student who is studying theatre and comedy or majoring in music performance or a full-time graduate student who is enrolled in a major in the Department of Music, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, demonstrates financial need, and is active in extracurricular or community service activities, with preference given to a student who is planning a career in theater or the performing arts.

The Harold Mabern Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of William Paterson adjunct faculty member Harold Mabern for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates a dedication to the legacy of jazz and its repertoire, as taught for many years by Prof. Mabern. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Harriet F. Modemann Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Harriet F. Modemann for outstanding students who are enrolled in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The Helen Doele Demarest Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Helen Doele Demarest ’27, Anita Hyman, and friends of Helen Doele Demarest for a student who is pursuing a career in education and demonstrates financial need.

The Helldobler Family Endowed Scholarship was established by William Paterson University President Dr. Richard Helldobler and Mr. Robert E. The Herb Jackson Memorial Endowed Scholarship is for a student who is majoring in communication, has earned at least 50 credits, and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of GPA of 3.0, with primary preference given to a student who is on the Beacon newspaper staff and secondary preference given to a student who is involved in extracurricular activities and demonstrates financial need.

The Herbert and Constance Califano Endowed Scholarship was established by the Califano family and friends for a student who is majoring in mathematics, pursuing a career in education, planning to study on the graduate level, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, is active in campus activities, and is not eligible for state or federal grant programs.

The Herbert Goldstein Endowed Scholarship was established by Professor Marjorie Goldstein in honor of her husband for an undergraduate student who is of junior or senior status, enrolled in the College of Education, and demonstrates outstanding potential and dedication to special education, with preference given to a non-traditional student.

The Herman George Diello Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by Ronald Diello ‘64, ’76 in memory of his father for a student who is of junior status, enrolled in the College of Science and Health, and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25; this scholarship may be renewed for the student’s senior year.

The Hobart Family Endowed Scholarship was established by the Hobart family for a student who is majoring in political science or history and demonstrates financial need.

The Howard Leighton Endowed Scholarship was established for a full-time undergraduate student who is a permanent resident of New Jersey, majoring in studio art or art history, and demonstrates talent and excellence in his/her chosen major; financial need is not a criterion. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Art.

The Idida Rodriguez Annual Scholarship is funded by Idida Rodriguez ’86 for a student who is majoring in anthropology, political science, psychology, or sociology, displays financial need, and maintains a cumulative grade point average between 2.5 and 3.4, with preference given to students from Paterson, Newark, Jersey City, or Elizabeth, New Jersey and additional preference given to students who are female and/or of Hispanic descent.

The James and Denise Bonney Annual Scholarship is funded by Paul Bonney ’00 in honor of his parents for a student who is in good academic standing, participates in on-campus activities, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The James Williams Memorial Scholarship was established by the family, friends, and fans of the late William Paterson University jazz director James Williams for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled in the jazz studies program, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates academic and musical promise. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Jane R. Voos Department of Biology Endowed Scholarship was established by the late William Paterson University professor Jane Voos for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in biology, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Jason Miller Endowed Scholarship was established by Peter and Suzanne Miller in memory of their son Jason ’02 for a junior or senior with a Criminal Justice concentration and a minimum GPA of 2.75, with preference given to a student who demonstrates financial need.

The Jazz Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the jazz studies program and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Jean Tomkovitch Annual Scholarship is funded by Jean Tomkovitch ’70 for a student who is studying special education and commutes to campus.

The Jeri Piechoski Annual Scholarship is funded by Jeri Piechoski ’79 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Joan M. Mulcahy Endowed Scholarship was established by Michael Mulcahy ’73, ’74 in memory of his wife, Joan Mulcahy ’97, for a full-time or part-time student who is majoring in sociology or psychology and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with preference given to a full-time student who is a working mother.

The Joan Van Niekerk Brillante Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by her family in her memory for full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in the College of Education, furthering their study about teaching and working with underserved individuals, including individuals with disabilities, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to students who are majoring in disability studies.

The John and Mary Gabriel Annual Scholarship is funded by Maryann Gabriel for full-time undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The John F. Villani Merit Endowed Scholarship was established by the family and friends of William Paterson University guitar student John “Jack” Villani in his memory for a full-time undergraduate student of sophomore status or higher who maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and is enrolled in the classical performance program, with primary preference given to a student who is studying classical guitar and secondary preference to an instrumentalist pursuing study in classical performance. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The John Martin Young Memorial Nursing Annual Scholarship is funded by Dr. Ronald Diello ’64, ’76 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in nursing, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The John Victor Machuga Endowed Scholarship was established by the John Victor Machuga Foundation for high achieving students, with a preference given to students from inner-city schools.

The John Victor Machuga Foundation Annual Scholarship is funded by the John Victor Machuga Foundation for graduates of a Passaic County high school who demonstrate significant financial need, qualify for financial aid, and exhibit leadership traits that bring recognition to the University and/or the community; this scholarship is renewable should the recipient continue to exhibit academic promise, leadership traits, and interest in community service.

The Joseph A. Gorab Endowed Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Joseph Gorab ’30 for students who are pursuing studies in the field of teaching the learning disabled, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrate involvement in University extracurricular activities.

The Joseph A. Trione Endowed Scholarship was established by Joseph A. Trione ’51, ’58 for a student who is enrolled full-time in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need, with preference given to a sophomore; this scholarship may be renewed.

The Joseph and Carmel DiGiacomo Annual Scholarship is funded by Joseph DiGiacomo ’73 in memory of his parents for first-generation students who are majoring in political science.

The Joseph Dziezawiec ’66, MEd ’72 Annual Scholarship is funded by the family and friends of Joseph Dziezawiec in his memory for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student from Paterson or, secondarily, from Passaic County, New Jersey.

The Journalism Annual Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate student who is of junior or senior status, studying print journalism, and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Julia Anne Kirsch Annual Scholarship is funded by the Julia Ann Kirsch Foundation for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in disability studies, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student who has disability studies as their first or only major.

The Kenneth Farrell Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by the Affinity Foundation for full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with strong primary preference given to students who are majoring in financial planning and secondary preference given to students who are majoring in finance.

The Kerstner Early Childhood Education Annual Scholarship is funded by Margaret Kerstner ’62, ’80 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in early childhood education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Kerstner Elementary Education Annual Scholarship is funded by Margaret Kerstner ’62, ’80 for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Kevin and Rachel Burkhardt Annual Scholarship is funded by Kevin ’97 and Rachel ’98 Burkhardt for a full-time undergraduate student who is of sophomore status or higher, majoring in communication, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), and is preparing for a career in broadcast journalism, with preference given to a student pursuing sports broadcast journalism.

The Knapp Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Mitchell ’80 and Jacqueline ’81 Knapp for a student who demonstrates financial need, with preference given to a student in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The Kostin Family Annual Scholarship in honor of Professor Michael Sebetich is funded by Oleg ’81, MA ’87 and Elena Kostin for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with primary preference given to a student who is majoring in environmental science or biology and secondary preference given to a student who is majoring in chemistry or math.

The Kraus Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Ann ’73 and Carl ’70, ’71 Kraus and their friends for a student who is majoring in art, communication, or history, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0; and demonstrates financial need, with strong preference given to a student who resides in Burlington or Camden Counties.

The Kurt and Anny Landsberger Annual Scholarship is funded by The Landsberger Foundation for students who are majoring in environmental science or environmental studies, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and are U.S. citizens, with preference given to graduates of an Essex County high school and additional consideration given to students who can demonstrate past and present involvement in environmental action/protection activities and/or who demonstrate financial need.

The Kutney Family Annual Scholarship is funded by Robert ’75 and Catherine Kutney for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education or the Cotsakos College of Business, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as determined by the federal government), with preference given to a minority student and, secondarily, a first-generation college student who is enrolled in the College of Education.

The L.C. Guthrie, Jr. Memorial Annual Scholarship is funded by the estate of Les Guthrie for a matriculated student who is enrolled in the College of Education or the Cotsakos College of Business and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The Lakeland Bank Annual Scholarship is funded by Lakeland Bank for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in finance or accounting or minoring in business administration, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, demonstrates financial need (as determined by the federal government), and is a U.S. citizen and a resident of New Jersey, with preference given to a student who is involved in extracurricular activities; the recipient may not be employed by, or have an immediate family member employed by Lakeland Bank.

The Larry Gates Music Production Annual Scholarship is funded in memory of Larry Gates by his wife, Caryn Starr-Gates, and his daughter, Ariana Gates ’17, and their family and friends for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the sound engineering arts program, excels in the program, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government). The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Lauren T. Shears S.P.I.K.E. Annual Award is funded by Lauren Shears Agnew ’ 06 for a full-time undergraduate student who has earned 15 or more credits, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and is a first-generation student involved in on-campus or community activities, with preference given to an African American female who is a resident of Essex County or a graduate of Montclair High School.

The LEAP Annual Scholarship provides support for a William Paterson University student who demonstrates financial need (not necessarily defined by the federal government), with strong preference given to a student with a speech or developmental disorder (e.g. aphasia, stuttering, learning disabilities, communication disorders, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, developmental coordination disorders, etc.; medical proof of disability is not required to receive the scholarship) and additional preference given to a student who is enrolled in the College of Science and Health, or a first-generation college student, or related to a William Paterson alum.

The Lenahan Family Business Annual Scholarship is funded by Kevin ’90 and Dawn Lenahan for full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in the Cotsakos College of Business, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The LeRoi H. Moore Music Endowed Scholarship was established by the Bama Works Fund and the Horton Foundation in memory of the late LeRoi H. Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band who passed away in 2008, for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring in music and demonstrates a commitment to his/her musicianship and academics, a commitment to community and service, and financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government). The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Letitia and John Montes Annual Scholarship is funded by Letitia ’79 and John Montes for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in elementary education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a Hispanic student.

The Lillian Scoulikas-Cotsakos Finance Endowed Scholarship was established by Dr. Christos ’73 and Tami ’71 Cotsakos in memory of Christos’ mother for a student who is majoring in finance in the Cotsakos College of Business, has completed at least 90 credit hours, and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.45; financial need (as defined by the federal government or otherwise) may be taken into consideration.

The Linda Niro Endowed Scholarship was established by Linda Niro ’76 for a full-time undergraduate student who demonstrates academic promise and financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Lois Wolf Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Professor Lois Wolf for a deserving William Paterson student, with preference given to a minority student and/or a non-traditional student.

The Look Up and Smile Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of world-famous accordionist, teacher, composer, and arranger Charles Nunzio for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in music performance, jazz studies, or music education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), and demonstrates musical and academic achievement, with preference given to an accordionist/pianist/keyboardist and additional strong preference given to a first-generation college student. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Louise and Charles Theiller Endowed Scholarship was established by Louise and Charles Theiller for a full-time undergraduate student who is majoring in biology or biotechnology and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Lourdes Cortez Annual Scholarship is funded by William Paterson University Board of Trustees member Lourdes Cortez for a full-time undergraduate student who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Mae and Fletcher Fish Endowed Scholarship was established by Mae and the late Fletcher Fish for an incoming graduate student who is majoring in music and demonstrates either outstanding music performance skills or outstanding scholarship; part-time students may be eligible but the award will be pro-rated to the number of credits taken each semester. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Maltese Family Endowed Scholarship was established by the Maltese family for a student who is majoring in communication and demonstrates financial need.

The Mantone Vilardi Family Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who has a minimum GPA of 2.75, is a New Jersey resident, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government).

The Marcelo Llarull Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of Professor Marcelo Llarull by his colleagues and friends for a student who is majoring in mathematics, of senior status, has completed at least 25 credits in the major with a minimum major grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates both academic excellence and a proven record of service to the department, such as tutoring in the Mathematics Learning Center, active participation in the Math Club, Math Fair, Math Awareness Week, presentation of a talk or poster at a mathematics conference, etc. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

The Margaret Hayes Suited for Success Endowed Award was established by Dr. Susan Godar, a former faculty member in the Cotsakos College of Business, in honor of her mother, to provide awards for the purchase of a business suit for students who are majoring in a program in the Cotsakos College of Business, in good academic standing, have completed at least 75 credit hours, and demonstrate financial need; please note: if you previously received a Suited for Success Award, you will not be eligible to apply for this opportunity.

The Margaret Paroby Annual Scholarship is funded by Margaret Paroby ’68 for a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in the College of Education, has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a student from Prospect Park or Garfield, New Jersey.

The Margurite Carberry-Kane and James Kane Endowed Scholarship was established by the estate of Professor Ruth Kane Fern in memory of her parents for a student who is majoring in English and secondary education.

The Marguerite Tiffany Art Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of emeritus associate professor of art Marguerite Tiffany for a student who is of junior status, majoring in art, and selected by a faculty jury for the overall aesthetic quality of his/her work. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Art.

The Maria Saa and Marietta Cutillo Family Endowed Scholarship was established by Lorraine Cutillo-Saa and the late Dr. Orlando Saa for students who are majoring in Spanish, display academic excellence, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need.

The Marianne Autorino Endowed Scholarship was established by Marianne Autorino ’78 for a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing and demonstrates financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to a female student who is age 22 or older.

The Marie Louise McCarthy Endowed Scholarship was established by Joan Hall in memory of her sister Marie Louise McCarthy ’44 for up to two full-time, undergraduate students who maintain an minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0; remain on track to graduate in four years (i.e., complete a minimum of 30 credits per academic year); and demonstrate financial need (not necessarily as defined by the federal government), with preference given to students who graduated from Garfield High School, where Mrs. McCarthy taught for forty years.

The Marlene and J. Billy VerPlanck Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Marlene VerPlanck and the friends and fans of jazz musician J. Billy VerPlanck for a trombonist in the William Paterson University jazz studies program. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by the Department of Music.

The Martin and Joann Krivin Endowed Scholarship was established by Roger and Paulette Staum in memory of Martin and Joann Krivin for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the Department of Music who demonstrates academic merit with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, initiative, leadership, interpersonal skills, and financial need, with preference given to a student majoring in jazz studies. The Mary A. Sweeney Annual Scholarship is funded by the Sweeney Family in memory of Mary Sweeney ’75, ’78 for a part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is in good academic standing, with preference given to a non-traditional, first-generation, female student.

The Mary Donna Rottengen Annual Scholarship is funded by Donna Rottengen ’65, MS ’71, Med ’73 for first-generation college students who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need.
