Porch Skilled Trade & Technology Scholarships Growing demand and lack of qualified workers in skilled trades and technology means it’s a great time to go back to school and enter these lucrative and fast-growing industries. To help keep up with demand and assist the next generation of professionals, Porch will award a* $2,000 scholarship* four times a year to eligible students who meet the following criteria: GPA

Seeking United States Veterans, Active Duty, National Guard, and Reservists with current orders or an honorable discharge from the United States Military that live, work, or attend college within Saratoga County. One (1) $5,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2021 – 2022 academic year. Applicants must provide proof of: Residency in Saratoga County, New York, OR Employment in Saratoga County New York, OR Acceptance/attendance at a college within Saratoga County, New York Applicants must provide proof of acceptance/enrollment at a college before the scholarship is paid. Applicants must submit current orders or a DD-214 showing an honorable discharge. Letters of recommendation can be submitted but are not required. Applicants must attend an interview with the selection committee. In certain cases this can be done remotely. Current students must provide proof of a G.P.A. above 2.5. Scholarship funds will be paid in July 2021 for the Fall 2021 semester. The scholarship can be paid either directly to the recipient or the institution. Applications must be postmarked on or before May 28, 2021. Late applications are not accepted. The National Grid “Charging Our Future” DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) Engineering Scholarship Program supports students from Low and Moderate Income (LMI) communities, providing up to six awards of $10,000 each with a paid internship opportunity to engineering majors. The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awarded to a matriculated student in the Liberal Arts and Science: Humanities and Social Science program, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, or high school equivalent.

Awarded to a full-time matriculated student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference for a student from an underrepresented group.

The Chief Executives Network for Manufacturing of the Capital Region, Inc. (CEN) is an association of manufacturers located in the Capital Region. To encourage students to consider careers in manufacturing, CEN will once again be offering $1,000 scholarships to be awarded to applicants who are: • High school seniors graduating in 2020 and accepted at an accredited two or four year college, university, or trade school; or • College students enrolled at the undergraduate level in an accredited two or four year college, university or trade school; and • Students planning to enroll in a major which can lead to qualifying for a position with a manufacturer; and • Residents of one of the following eleven Capital Region counties: Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington. • CEN limits the number of scholarships that an individual can win to 2 in any 4 year period. Awarded to a Rensselaer County high school graduate entering the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Preference for a student majoring in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Technology.

Awarded to an incoming student enrolling in the Automotive Technology Program. Preference is given to a student from Rensselaer County with a strong community volunteer portfolio. Scholarship is renewable for a second year provided student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.

The scholarship is intended to provide women an opportunity to improve their quality of life through education in order to successfully complete a degree in their chosen field. It is to be awarded to a woman 21 years of age or older that shows financial need and demonstrates a chosen career path. The awardee must be enrolled or accepted for study in a program leading to an academic, technical or vocational degree, at HVCC, must maintain a 3.0 Grade point average, be a permanent resident of the counties of Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia Schoharie, Green, or Washington in New York State, and able to demonstrate a financial need.

Awarded to a matriculated student enrolled in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Preference for students in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology.

The Dave Goyette Memorial Vocational Scholarship program was established to honor the memory of David J. Goyette, with the generous contributions from his wife, Gloria Kavanah, and numerous people whose lives he touched. Dave was a force of goodness in the world. He had a gift for making everyone he encountered feel valued and was known for his quiet acts of kindness, uplifting words, and sharing of whatever knowledge might help someone. This scholarship is intended to benefit vocational education students that reflect Dave’s character traits. Students who either are enrolled, or plan to enroll, in a certificate or degree program for the skilled trades of Heating,Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, welding, electrical, building construction, machining, auto collision repair and refinishing, engine repair; or to teach in a vocational field, are encouraged to apply. $2,500 in scholarship funds will be awarded on or around December 1, 2020 for the spring 2021 semester. To be eligible, the student must: reside in Schenectady County, New York. be enrolled in, or in the process of enrolling in, a vocational certification or degree program. submit an online application by November 1, 2020. David Allard’s ongoing commitment to HVCC motivated him and his wife, Marjorie Sawyer, to financially assist students in the Environmental Science and Radiologic Technology academic programs. They especially wish to encourage a diversity of students to enter STEM fields. Awarded to a matriculated Science student, with a preference in the Environmental Science or Radiologic Technology fields of study. The recipient must be a permanent resident of the counties of Albany, Columbia, Green, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, or Washington in New York State; and able to demonstrate a financial need.

Awarded to a graduate of Oneonta Senior High School (Oneonta, NY) , to assist those graduates in continuing their education.

Awarded to a graduate of Troy High School who is enrolled in the Physician Assistant, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Radiological Technology, Dental Hygiene, or Medical Laboratory Technology program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Awarded to a student enrolled in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences who has a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to a Liberal Arts/Individual Studies major in their second/final year of study; Engineering, Math, and Science majors are not eligible.

Awarded to a full-time Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) transfer student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Awarded to a full-time matriculated student in the School of Health Sciences with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference for a student hoping to enter the medical profession.

This scholarship was created by family and friends to honor the memory of Peter H. Collins, D.D.S. For more than 40 years, Dr. Collins practiced periodontics in Troy alongside his dedicated staff, who were like family to him. Over the years, he held a variety of leadership roles supporting the oral health of communities in New York State. He found great joy in mentoring and instructing aspiring professionals, including dental residents at St. Clare’s Hospital and dental hygiene students at Hudson Valley Community College. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in the second year of the Dental Hygiene A.A.S. program at HVCC; residents of New York state; and have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Awarded to a full-time Educational Opportunity Program student demonstrating the ability to succeed academically.

Preference given to applicants who are enrolled in or planning to enroll in the college’s Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Integrated Technology or Manufacturing Technical Systems program.

Awarded to a full-time, matriculated student enrolled in the Automotive Technology program.

Awarded to a student who has completed the EOC curriculum (requires verification by EOC staff) who is transferring to pursue a degree or certificate program at Hudson Valley Community College.

The Hudson Valley Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators Scholarship is being offered to a student interested in pursuing a career in the legal field, particularly a career as a legal assistant.

Awarded to a student pursuing a degree, certificate, or taking personal or professional development courses. Preference given to children, spouses, and members of the HVCC Class of ’93.

This scholarship is offered to a second year, HVCC School of Business student that is participating in the Student Investment Club and demonstrates academic excellence, entrepreneurial endeavors, and a commitment to community service. Must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Awarded to a full-time, matriculated student with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher enrolled in the either the Chemical Technician or Biotechnology degree programs. Preference will be given to those students enrolled in the Chemical Technician program.

Awarded to a full-time, matriculated, incoming freshman nursing student who has completed his or her first year requirements at HVCC.

Awarded to a student in the Electrical Engineering Technology program with a a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Awarded to a full-time, matriculated Business Administration major with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Awarded to a matriculated student enrolled at HVCC. Consideration will be given to enhancing diversity, primarily to applicants overcoming a disadvantage, returning student, and/or other impediments to success in higher education. In keeping with Jayme’s dedication to helping others, applicants must demonstrate teamwork and service to their community. This scholarship is intended to provide support to under-served students in need of a financial opportunity to succeed in higher education.

Joel B. Hargett ’97 Memorial Scholarship is offered to a part-time adult/returning student, who is also a full-time New York State employee. Applicant must be enrolled in 1 or 2 courses per semester at Hudson Valley Community College in pursuit of his/her first degree in one of the following curricula: Individual Studies, Computer Information Systems, Civil and Public Service, Accounting, Business Administration, or Human Services. Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Awarded to a student enrolled in the Civil, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Technologies Department who has a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Preference will be given to full-time Civil Engineering Technology majors.

Awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in the Construction Technology program.

This scholarship, established in memory of John Rapp Jr,. is to be awarded to student enrolled full-time in HVCC’s Automotive Tech program, with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Preference will be given to students from Albany County; graduates of Bethlehem High School; or students who attended the Capital Region BOCES Auto Mechanic Program.

Awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Awarded to an incoming full-time, matriculated student in any program. Preference will be given to an Averill Park High School graduate.

Awarded to a full-time student in the Human Services program who will be enrolled for the upcoming Fall semester. Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Preference given to students who show commitment to community through volunteerism or human service.

Awarded to a student in his/her second year in the Business Program, who has earned an A in Principles of Macroeconomics (100) and Microeconomics (101), as well as an A in Business Communications (200). Preference for a student with a minimum GPA of 3.7; a grade of A in microeconomics and macroeconomics courses; and a minimum of 24 credits completed. Recipient must be a U.S. citizen.

Awarded to a student enrolled in the paramedic certificate or degree program.

Awarded to a matriculated non-traditional student (typically someone who is age 25 or older) who is looking to obtain his/her first college degree or to retrain for a new career; preference will be given to a single parent. Award will be renewed through degree completion dependent on maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Awarded to a matriculated, full-time student enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Technology program. Preference will be given to students with a cumulative GPA between 2.75 and 3.25.

Awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing or physician assistant program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Awarded to a full-time, matriculated student in the Construction Technology program with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

Second Chance Scholarships are aimed at students who not only have financial need, but who also have overcome tremendous personal obstacles in order to pursue an education. The goal of the program is to reward those who demonstrate the initiative and desire to achieve self-sufficiency through education. Recipients are also rewarded for academic success; the higher your grades, the more the award. Recipients must be enrolled for at least six credit hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher at the end of the semester in order to receive an award.

Awarded to a matriculated student in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences or School of Health Sciences with a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or high school equivalent, or higher. Preference given to students studying in programs leading to careers in public service including but not limited to: any Health Sciences curricula; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood/Teacher Preparation; Public Administration Studies; and Human Services.

Awarded to a full-time, matriculated student in any program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Awarded to a full-time matriculated student with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to student athletes and those demonstrating an “entrepreneurial” spirit.

Awarded to a matriculated student enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program who has shown an interest in community service. Preference will be given to veterans. Likely to be awarded to a graduating senior in the Spring of current year.

Awarded to a nursing student from a nontraditional background (preference for a single parent) with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

To support deserving students who are working full-time while enrolled in online courses at Hudson Valley Community College, in recognition of the different needs demonstrated by working students in comparison with traditional “day-time students.” Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and have earned a minimum of 15 credit hours to be considered. A letter of recommendation from the student’s current employer is a required component of the student’s application. There is no minimum age, and students of all majors may apply. Recipients must make satisfactory progress toward a degree, and continue with full-time employment, while benefiting from this fund.

Tau Beta Phi Scholarship is offered to a student entering his/her second year of studies at Hudson Valley Community College. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in health. Preference given to a full time student.

To provide a scholarship(s) for members of Teamsters Union Local 294, or the spouse or the child of a member in the union’s construction division. Awards to full-time students matriculated in any degree or certificate program.

Awarded to a full-time matriculated female student who is 25 years of age or older with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants must be residents of Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady or Schoharie County, New York.

Awarded to a matriculated student enrolled in the nursing program who exhibits financial need.

Students in vocational/technical programs such as carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing are welcome to apply. You will be hired into a full-time, benefits eligible position and will receive funding to complete your degree. Recipients chosen on basis of application materials and interview.

Awarded to a matriculated student who is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Services as defined by the U.S. Department of Education or a documented child of any veteran, including those deemed eligible to receive Chapter 35 veterans’ benefits.

Awarded to a student whose spouse or parent is a member of the Troy Police Benevolent and Protective Association (Troy PBA).

Professor Karpiak taught English, Russian and history at Hudson Valley Community College. The recipient must be a matriculated student entering his/her second year of studies in the Liberal Arts program.

Awarded to a student with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher; preference for students who demonstrate a commitment to community service.

Preference will be given to a new student of underrepresented ethnic and racial groups, and second preference to a returning student of underrepresented ethnic and racial groups. The award is not intended to be used for tuition expenses.
