Scholarships at SUNY College at Geneseo

The Acierno Family Scholarship Endowment is to provide at least a $1,000 scholarship. CRITERIA: The scholarship is awarded to students who are: a) incoming or currently enrolled at SUNY Geneseo; b) in good academic standing; c) have demonstrated financial need; and d) first in their family to attend college. PROCESS: One or more scholarships may be awarded annually. Scholarship(s) may be renewable and applied to non-tuition educational expenses. SELECTED BY: Office of Enrollment Management.

The Alexandra M. Ciarcia 2018 Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by the parents of Alexandra M. Ciarcia 2018, Dennis Ciarcia and Madonna Swanson, along with family, friends, and SUNY Geneseo alumni. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is entering, b) is first-year, c) intends to be a communication major, and d) demonstrates exceptional talent and initiative in the area of communication. PROCESS: The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 and is to be used for non-tuition expenses. This scholarship will be renewable from year to year (for a maximum duration of four years), provided the recipient continues a communication major and remains in good standing with the College. The Amy Glauner 1994 Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established by family and friends of Amy Glauner 1994. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is a) outstanding, and b) majoring in Art Studio or Art History. The Amy S. Janicki 2013 Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established in memory of Amy S. Janicki 2013 by her family and friends. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is an active Sigma Delta Tau sister, b) embodies the passion and joy for Geneseo and the sorority, and c) who actively works to make the sorority a more positive and productive place for the growth of both individual members and the chapter as a whole. The full award amount is to be given in the Fall semester. The Anne Marie Parks 1989 Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $500 scholarship and was established in memory of Anne Marie Parks 1989 by her friends. The AP Professionals Accounting Annual Scholarship Fund provides $500 annually towards tuition to assist students preparing for accounting careers. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a) full-time students enrolled in the accounting program, b) juniors who have cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or better, and c) applicants demonstrating potential for leadership and success in the accounting profession. This may be demonstrated through participation in student clubs, volunteer activities, intercollegiate or intramural athletics, or by experience in the “real world” of business (jobs or internships). The Carol Kramer 1976 Scholarship Endowment provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Jack 1976 and Carol 1976 Kramer. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is entering, b) is first-year, c) is in good academic standing, d) is preferably planning to pursue a major in Psychology, e) has demonstrated leadership, f) has demonstrated service to community, and g) has financial need may also be taken into consideration. PROCESS: This scholarship is renewable from year to year (for a maximum duration of four years), provided the recipient remains in good standing. If the recipient changes his or her major during their time at SUNY Geneseo, it is the intent of the donor that the student will continue to receive the scholarship. The Catherine and Charles Campo Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $2,500 scholarship and was established by Connie Campo Drew 1958 in memory of her parents. The Charles VanArsdale Scholarship Endowment provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by the Bank of Castile directors in honor of Charles “Bud” VanArsdale to recognize his long and distinguished service as President of the bank, his continuing efforts in support of the many community groups and programs, and his special interest in SUNY Geneseo education, the School of Business, and the relationship of the college to economic expansion in Genesee Valley communities. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is a high school graduating senior who lives in Livingston, Wyoming or Genesee counties, b) is first-year, c) is in the School of Business, d) is full-time, and e) demonstrate academic excellence. PROCESS: The amount of this scholarship is for tuition. The Christine Pagano Stralitz 1953 Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Paul Stralitz as a memorial to his wife, Christine Pagano Stralitz 1953. The Connie Johnston Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established by Dean A. Johnston, in memory of his wife, Connie. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a current student who a) is a Music Major in the Piano Performance Option or in the Piano Pedagogy Minor, b) has at least one semester of study with Geneseo piano faculty, c) shows strong evidence of successful artistic activity and high potential for artistic growth, d) has a minimum overall GPA of 3.3, and e) has minimum GPA in the major or minor program of 3.7. The scholarship would be awarded to an incoming Corning Community College transfer Student to complete their education at Geneseo in a STEM field. Four students will receive $2,000 per year for two years. Each student will receive a total of $4,000 in funds.

The Diane M. Wolcott ’75 Incentive Scholarship is to provide at least a $1,000 Scholarship. CRITERIA: This scholarship is to be awarded to a) incoming student(s) to SUNY Geneseo majoring in Education; b) resident of Chemung, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, or Yates Counties. The Donald Michael Brown 1986 Memorial Science Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established by Rev. Dr. Clyde H. The Donna Dickinson Breskin ’80 and William Breskin Endowed Scholarship is to provide at least a $1,000 Scholarship. Fink, who served as chairperson of the Art Department, by his family. The Dr. Fred A. Bennett Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $750 scholarship and was established in memory of Dr. Fred A. Bennett, Emeritus Assistant to the President for SUNY Geneseo and Executive Secretary to the Geneseo Foundation, by the Geneseo Foundation and Dr. Bennett’s children, F. Lawrence Bennett and Barbara Bennett. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is a) a deserving student, and b) in the School of Education. The Dr. James and Arleen Somerville First Generation Scholarship Endowment provides a minimum scholarship amount of $4,000 and was established by Dr. James K. Somerville, Emeritus Professor of History at SUNY Geneseo, and his wife, Arleen Somerville. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is a first generation college student, b) is a United States resident, and c) demonstrates financial need. PROCESS: This scholarship may be awarded to more than one student if earnings are available. The minimum award amount is $4000. The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of four years providing a minimum 2.85 GPA is maintained both semesters of their first year, and 3.0 GPA is maintained in each semester the following three years. The John L. Deutsch Award for Excellence in Chemical Thermodynamics is a $150 award given to an outstanding junior Chemistry major who has completed Chem 320, Physical Chemistry I, with a grade of A, and who has demonstrated a superior understanding of chemical thermodynamics. In addition, the student must possess an overall GPA of at least 3.4 and a chemistry/physics GPA of at least 3.6. The award will only be given if a suitable candidate is available. The Edward P. Daniels Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established by Marilyn and Robert Lyon in honor of Edward P. Daniels, father of Marilyn Lyon. The Elizabeth K. Hartness Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides one $1,000 or two $500 scholarship(s) and was established by Elizabeth’s parents, Charles K. and Kathleen O. Hartness, and is generously supported by Elizabeth’s family. The Hartness’ are friends of the College. Charles K. Hartness served the College for 28 years as a psychological counselor and 1 ½ years as Director of Disability Services. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is a sophomore, b) in need of financial assistance, c) has a cumulative average of at least 3.00, and d) has a documented disability. The Emerging Leaders Scholarship is to provide a $1,000 scholarship to students who have demonstrated strong leadership and exhibit a genuine interest in leadership. CRITERIA: The scholarship is awarded to a student who: a) is incoming or currently enrolled at SUNY Geneseo; b) is in good academic standing, according to the College’s definition of good standing; c) has demonstrated strong leadership in academic, co-curricular, and/or community actives; d) exhibits a strong interest in developing his/her leadership skills and/or the leadership skills of others; and e) while not a requirement, preference will be given to female students. PROCESS: One or more scholarship(s) may be awarded annually. The award may be renewable for up to four years dependent on the student’s academic standing. The Excellence in Residence Life Leadership Annual Scholarship Fund is a $2,500 scholarship and is supported by Kathleen Acierno Baron 1983. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a) a Residence Life Assistant, b) who is the most outstanding in his or her commitment to the personal and social development of students as responsible residents in a living and learning community. The Financial Accounting Peer Tutor Scholarship is at least a $1,500 scholarship to an accounting major in the School of Business. CRITERIA: The scholarship is awarded to a student(s) who a) Full-time Accounting Major; b) has completed a minimum of 60 credits at the end of the Spring Semester; c) has earned a minimum Grade of B in Acct 301 and Acct 302; d) is returning to Geneseo in the subsequent academic year. Preference will be given to student(s) with demonstrated potential for leadership and success in the accounting profession and the ability to effectively communicate with peers, which may be demonstrated through involvement in extracurricular activities, work experience, and community service. Scholarship applicants must submit the following by July 16 to be considered: 1) Application form, 2) Current Resume; 3) Current unofficial transcript; and 4) one page personal essay on college activities and aspirations post graduation. The Flanders Group Insurance Career Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established by Chris McVicker 1972 and The Flanders Group. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is a junior, b) in the School of Business, c) has at least 60 earned academic credits, d) has a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 or better, e) is willing to complete a 3-credit internship at an insurance company, and f) demonstrates interest in pursuing a career in insurance. PROCESS: The internship will be overseen administratively by the School of Business Internship Director. The student will fulfill all the academic requirements of a Geneseo School of Business internship. Upon successful completion of the internship, the student will receive the $1,200 scholarship, which will be awarded for the senior year. The FTT Manufacturing Scholarship Endowment provides $500 scholarship and was established by FTT Manufacturing. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is a) a major in the School of Business, b) in the judgement of a business faculty committee, the most improved student from freshman to junior years, but in more than grade-point average, c) with demonstrated humanistic values demonstrated through volunteer service, including church, hospital or a community service organization, and d) possess qualities that suggest potential for success in business, including in the entrepreneurial sense of creating a business. PROCESS: This scholarship is selected by the faculty in the School of Business and is to be credited to the tuition account of a junior in the spring towards senior year tuition expenses. The Gary Drago 1974 Memorial Scholarship Endowment annually provides a $2,000 scholarship and was initiated and supported by Timothy (brother of Gary) and Sandy Drago. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a) a graduating senior from York Central School, b) who is an entering freshman to SUNY Geneseo, and c) who demonstrates economic need. In a given year, if no student can be identified who meets these criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to a) deserving SUNY Geneseo student, b) majoring in physics, and c) with preference for a student from Livingston County who demonstrates economic need. PROCESS: The York Central School Principal and Guidance Counselor recommend the recipient to the SUNY Geneseo Office of Enrollment Management. If no student is identified from York Central School, then the recipient will be selected by the SUNY Geneseo Department of Physics. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management with recommendations from the York Central School Principal and Guidance Counselor. If no recipient from York Central School, then the SUNY Geneseo Dept. of Physics will make the recommendation to SUNY Geneseo Enrollment Management.

The Geneseo Rotary Club Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $750 scholarship to one or two students and was established by the Geneseo Rotary Club. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is an undergraduate, b) is a sophomore, junior, or senior, c) is from Livingston County, d) has a record of academic excellence, e) history of community service or volunteerism, and f) has financial need. The George C. and Eleanore M. Teall Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Eleanore Teall in loving memory of her husband George, a Geneseo attorney and emeritus member of the Geneseo Foundation Board of Directors. Upon Eleanore’s passing, their son Geoff Teall continues to support this scholarship in memory of both his parents. The Tealls are friends of the College. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is outstanding, b) is in Geneseo’s pre-law program, c) has solid academic achievement, and d) has potential for success in law school. The George W. Speedy 1971 Scholarship Endowment provides a full-tuition scholarship and was established by George W. Speedy 1971. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is entering, b) will major in Political Science, and c) demonstrates financial need. This scholarship provides at least $7,500 for full-tuition. This scholarship is renewable through graduation. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management

The Gustave A. and Geraldine S. Werner Annual Scholarship Fund provides scholarships and was established by the Gustav A. and Geraldine S. Werner Foundation. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to students who a) are majoring in Special Education, b) have a 2.8 (or better) cumulative average, and c) are pursuing to work in the field of Special Education. PROCESS: The scholarship provides support for two (2) or three (3) four-year full tuition scholarships. The recipients must maintain a 2.8 (or better) cumulative average and in pursuit of work in the field of Special Education in order to continue to be eligible to receive this scholarship. The Humphrey Family Scholarship Endowment provides an annual $1,000 scholarship to assist business students. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student a) enrolled in the School of Business, b) from Livingston or Wyoming counties, c) is a junior or senior, d) has cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or better, e) demonstrates a potential for leadership and success in business demonstrated through participation in student clubs, volunteer activities, intercollegiate or intramural athletics, or by experience in the “real world” or business (jobs or internships). If there is not a suitable candidate, then the award may go to an incoming student who meets the criteria of location and major. PROCESS: To apply for the scholarship, a student is required to submit an application form, a current resume, and unofficial transcript, and an essay on college activities and aspirations after graduation. PROCESS: This scholarship will be renewable from year to year (for a maximum duration of four years), provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 and otherwise remains in good standing with the College. The Isom Fearn Black Faculty/Staff Association Annual Scholarship Fund provides at least a $500 scholarship and was established by Yolanda Twitty, former Admissions Counselor/Overnight Program Coordinator and facilitator of the Black Faculty & Staff Association (BFSA) Scholarship Fund, and faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of SUNY Geneseo. This fund is named in memory of Isom Fearn, Director Emeritus of Access Opportunity Program at SUNY Geneseo. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is full-time, b) has cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher, c) demonstrates active involvement in campus activities/community service, d) has strong personal, academic and career goals, and e) possess strong leadership abilities and qualities. The James 1933 and Mary Servis 1934 Dietsche Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established by David and Christina Klosner in loving memory of Christina’s parents. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is a) an undergraduate, b) outstanding, c) in School of Education, and d) preferably a graduate of Geneseo Central School or Elmira Free Academy. The James A. and Barbara J. Walker Music Annual Scholarship Fund provides at least a $2,500 scholarship and was established by spouses James A. and Barbara J. Walker. James A. Walker is a Distinguished Service Professor of Music Emeritus. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is incoming, b) intends to major in music performance with a concentration in a string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument and c) intends to participate on a semesterly basis in the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra. PROCESS: This scholarship is renewable for a period of up to four years providing the student remains in good standing at the College. The James G. and Irene H. Allen Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $500 scholarship and was established by June E. Allen 1982 in honor of her parents. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is in financial need, b) has achieved satisfactory academic progress, and c) is an elementary education major. The James J. Kelly 1983 Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by alumni and friends of James J. Kelly 1983. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a students who a) has an outstanding academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA), b) demonstrates leadership, sportsmanship, respect, loyalty, integrity, and a sense of humor. The Jane Aschenbrenner Ryan 1974 Enrichment Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $500 scholarship. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is a senior, b) has proven financial need, c) applies for admission to law schools to help defray the costs of applying. The Jesse M. Rodgers 1999 Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established in memory of Jesse M. Rodgers 1999 by Omega Beta Psi and his family and friends. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is outstanding, b) is an undergraduate, c) majoring in either English or Political Science d) has demonstrated academic achievement, e) demonstrates leadership, and f) demonstrates character. JFEW SUNY Global Affairs Leadership program The Jewish Foundation for the Education of Women (JFEW), has established the JFEW SUNY Global Affairs Leadership program which includes a two-year academic program with a strong preference for females. The integrated program includes two years of scholarship support (up to $5,000 each year), a monthly seminar series for two academic years, and paid internships in New York-based global organizations offered during the summer between the Junior and Senior years. The goal of the program is to prepare students for careers in any field using a global affairs perspective and to create strong mentor and peer networks that will continue to support students’ goals through their careers. CRITERIA: Candidates should demonstrate an interest in a career that encompasses a Global Affairs perspective and who fulfill the requirements identified below. All majors will be considered. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0* (this may be flexible); Candidates must be U. S. citizens or eligible for citizenship; Candidates must be a resident of New York State; Candidates must be entering their Junior Year; Candidates must have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Financial Aid. This FAFSA must establish demonstrated financial need. PROCESS: Selected students will be eligible to receive scholarship support of up to $5,500 for each of two years and an internship stipend of $3,500. Scholarship award will not exceed the total cost of attendance. The John 1995 and Stephen 1999 Vamossy Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 award given to a student entering the M.S. in Accounting Program. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student a) who has active membership in an organization outside the School of Business, b) demonstrated financial need, and c) evidences academic success. PROCESS: Applicants submit an essay addressing the importance of a balance between academic success and involvement in activities/organizations outside the classroom, and provides insight into the individual’s financial need. The recipient will be announced in the spring of his/her senior year, and will be selected by faculty in the School of Business. The John Wiley Jones Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund is a $1,000 scholarship and was established by the Chamber Board of Directors to honor the memory of Mr. Jones, a founder of the Livingston County Chamber of Commerce. CRITERIA: The scholarship is awarded to a) an outstanding student, b) in SUNY Geneseo’s School of Business, and c) with preference given to a student from Livingston County. Joseph F. Cicero ’62, ’66 M.S. Memorial Scholarship Endowment is to provide financial support to SUNY Geneseo students majoring in Education. The June Blair Metro 1948 for Excellence in Elementary Education Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by June Blair Metro 1948. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is outstanding and deserving, b) is an elementary education major, c) demonstrates academic excellence, d) has leadership ability, and e) has made contributions to the department. The Karen Davis ‘66 Endowed Scholarship in Education provides at least a $1,000 scholarship applied to non-tuition educational expenses. The Kiwanis Club in Memory of Dr. Ramon M. Rocha – “Nada Es Imposible” Annual Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship of at least a $500 scholarship and was established by the Geneseo Kiwanis Club in memory of Dr. Ramon M. Rocha and supported by family and friends of Dr. Rocha, the College’s first director of multicultural affairs. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is a) deserving, b) exhibits perseverance in pursuit of their education, c) has overcome personal, social or financial obstacles, and d) a minority. PROCESS: Applicants submit a) biographical summary, b) a short essay (no more than 2 pages) describing what Nada Es Imposible means to you as applied to your Geneseo education, c) optional: an official copy of your Geneseo Co-curricular Transcript, and d) a recommendation from a Geneseo faculty or staff. The Lisa Kuligowski 1998 Memorial Geography Scholarship Endowment provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by family and friends. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is an outstanding returning Geography major, b) at least junior standing, c) who demonstrates academic excellence (GPA of 3.5), d) the potential to excel in the pursuit of graduate studies, e) and a commitment to Geography Department service and collegiality. The Luckern/Miles Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Mary E. Luckern 1953 in honor of her aunt and great-aunt, both alumnae. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is; a) incoming; b) outstanding; c) in Education; and d) preferably from Geneva or Seneca Falls. PROCESS: The recipient must continue studying in the School of Education and maintain good academic standing through graduation for annual renewal. The Lydia Hees DeMarco 1929 Memorial Music Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $500 scholarship and was established by the family of Dr. Roland R. 1930 and Mrs. Lydia Hees 1929 DeMarco. The Lynn 1981 and Weston 1979 Kennison Study Abroad in Italy Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Weston 1979 and Lynn Melizzi 1981 Kennison. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is degree-seeking, b) is an undergraduate at Geneseo at the time of both the application and use of the award, c) is part-time or full-time, d) is in good academic standing, e) is in good social standing (including no disciplinary charges pending) at the time of application, and f) meets all requirements of and has received unconditional acceptance to overseas program. PROCESS: This scholarship supports direct expenses for a study abroad program in Italy. Direct expenses include airfare, land travel connected with requirements of the program, room board, fees and tuition. The scholarship is deferrable upon request of the recipient as long as student maintains eligibility for the year of deferment. In the case of the Humanities program, the $1,000 will be applied as a credit against the published program expense or refund against previously paid expenses. To apply students complete an application and submit two letters of recommendation (at least one must be from a SUNY Geneseo faculty member. The Morrisey Family Scholarship Endowment provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Dr. Thomas Morrisey, in loving memory of his wife, Mary Frances Santa Maria Morrisey 1952, and their son, Michael, 1LT Michael T. Morrisey, US Army, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 1992. The Natalie Selser Freed Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a $500 scholarship and was established by Dr. Walter Freed, a lecturer in the SUNY Geneseo English Department, in memory of his mother, Natalie Selser Free, a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, with a degree in English. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) demonstrates academic excellence by earning the highest grade point average within the English major, and b) has completed a minimum of 21 credit hours in this major. The Robert E. Drew Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $2,500 scholarship and was established by Connie Campo Drew 1958 in memory of her husband, Robert E. Drew. The Ryan Kennedy 2005 Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund is a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Adam Turkewitz 2005 and other friends of Ryan Kennedy, an accounting major who graduated in 2005 and who lost his life to cancer shortly thereafter. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a) a School of Business major, b) a SUNY Geneseo sophomore, junior or senior in the School of Business, c) who has earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, d) is involved in extra-curricular activities, and e) whose life has been touched by cancer. The Saturday Morning Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship applied to non-tuition educational expenses. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to students who a) is a currently enrolled junior or senior at SUNY Geneseo; with preference given to students of color; b) has demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in the creative side of the advertising industry; c) is enrolled in an appropriate program of study (e.g., Communication or Marketing); d) is in good academic standing, as per the College’s definition of “good standing” at the time of renewal; and e) has demonstrated financial need. The School of Business New Horizon Scholarship Endowment provides at least $1,000 scholarship and was established by Daniel 1986 and Nancy 1986 Loughran. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is incoming or current, b) enrolled in the School of Business, c) demonstates financial need, and in good academic standing. One or more award as described below may be awarded annually and each award may be renewable dependent on the fund’s annual available earnings. The Scott J. Ray Memorial Endowed Scholarships in the Arts provides at least a $3,000 scholarship CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is incoming or currently enrolled at SUNY Geneseo and b) will be or are enrolled in one of the programs of Theatre, Dance or Musical Theatre. PROCESS: At least three scholarship of equivalent value shall be awarded annually, one each to students in the programs of Theatre, Dance or Musical Theatre. The Dwyer Family and Gilmore Family Scholarship Endowment to honor Edward J. Dwyer ‘’53, Elizabeth Dwyer ’42 and Jean Gilmore ’42. The William H. Cook and Walter Herzman Memorial Annual Scholarship Fund provides a $1,000 scholarship and was established by Anna Cook and Veronica Herzman in memory of their husbands, William H. Cook and Walter Herzman. William H. Cook was the father of William Cook, Distinguished Teaching Professor of History Emeritus. Walter Herzman was the father of Ron Herzman, Distinguished Teaching Professor of English Emeritus. The Hans Gottschalk Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established by family and friends of Dr. Hans Gottschalk, Distinguished Service Professor of English Emeritus. Klein 1945 Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in honor of Harold’s late wife, Agnes Folts Klein and later family members added Harold’s name to this scholarship after his passing. The Ronald Herzman Study Abroad Endowment Fund, future generations of SUNY Geneseo students will benefit from global learning and international scholarship while honoring Professor Herzman’s vision and legacy. SELECTED BY: Recipients shall be selected by the Study Aboard Office in partnership with the Office of Financial Aid and will be in good academic standing.

The Sally Harrington Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established by friends, family, alumni and co-workers of Sally Harrington, secretary for the Department of Sociology. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is preferably incoming, b) is preferably majoring in Sociology, and c) demonstrates financial need. PROCESS: This scholarship is renewable up to 4 years, contingent on the recipient meeting a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA requirement each year. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management

The Sandra Wheat Burroughs Memorial Scholarship Endowment is a scholarship fund given by the family and friends of Sandra Wheat Burroughs, who was a graduate student in the School of Education’s Special Education program. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a) a graduate student enrolled in one of the current School of Education programs, b) who is an outstanding student and teacher, and c) who possesses the following qualities: leadership ability, caring about students and learning, and a desire to see everyone reach their full potential. The School of Business Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established by Kevin 1975 and Nancy 1976 Gavagan. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is incoming, and b) is in the School of Business. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management

The Socrates Annual Scholarship Fund provides a renewable scholarship of $2,000 and was established in memory of Dr. William Edgar, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Philosophy, who taught at Geneseo for many years and was an unwavering advocate for the humanities. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) shows strong academic accomplishments, b) expresses interest in a major that falls within the humanities, and c) explores courses in disciplines such as philosophy, history, English and foreign languages during their time at Geneseo. Students must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA to continue receiving the scholarship. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management

The Stephanie Marie Gorham 1998 Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides one or more $1,000 scholarships and was established by Dr. David Shane Wolf 1997 in memory of Stephanie Marie Gorham 1998. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is incoming, b) is first year, c) shows evidence of financial need, d) is preferably pursuing a major within the STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, and e) is preferably female. This scholarship may be renewable for a period of four (4) years, providing the student remains in good standing. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management

The Student Association Study Abroad Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships and was established by the SUNY Geneseo Student Association. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) meets all requirements for acceptance into a Geneseo study abroad program, b) is a degree-seeking student at the time of both the application and the use of the award, c) is in good academic standing, and d) is in good conduct standing. PROCESS: To apply students submit a) two letters of recommendation from SUNY Geneseo faculty members, and b) an essay explaining how your study abroad program relates to your major program of study and your log-term goals, and describe how you would share what you learn during your study abroad experience with the campus community upon your return. The amount of the award is $1,000 each to five students annually. Three of the scholarships are awarded for Geneseo short-term programs and one each will be awarded for Geneseo spring and fall semester programs. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) meets all requirements for acceptance into a Geneseo study abroad program, b) is a degree-seeking student at the time of both the application and the use of the award, c) is in good academic standing, and d) is in good conduct standing. The Sue-Ann Queen Kreutter 1977 Memorial Annual Dance Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship and was established by family and friends and continues to be supported by Stephen M. Kreutter 1979 in memory of Sue-Ann Queen Kreutter 1977. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is in the Dance program. The Susan J. Hughes 1997 Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established by the family and friends of Susan J. Hughes 1997. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is a Geneseo senior, b) is majoring in Elementary and Special Education, c) has a strong academic record, d) demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and learning, e) is an advocate for students with special needs and their families, f) is a leader g) exhibits wit, compassion and integrity, and h) preferably intends to complete their Master’s Degree at Geneseo’s School of Education. The Tompkins Financial Scholarship Endowment was established by Bank of Castile/Tompkins Insurance Agency. CRITERIA: The scholarship is awarded to students a) from Livingston, Wyoming or Genesee County, b) majoring in Business, and c) with need for financial aid. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management

The Vincent E. Spezzano Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established By Marjorie Elliot Spezzano 1948 in honor of her husband, Vincent E. Spezzano. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is outstanding, b) a Communication major, c) has a history of involvement in extra-curricular or professional communication activities, d) is a senior. SELECTED BY: Enrollment Management with input from the Department of Communication.

The Wilbur Wright Family Scholarship Endowment was established by Wilbur H. Wright and Florence S. Wright. Over the years and in addition, contributions have been made by members of their family. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to students who a) are current, b) with need, c) intend to enter a service career in teaching, d) preferably have demonstrated academic promise, and e) preferably with interest in teacher education and/or music. Prime candidates are potential teachers of music or a prospective elementary teacher gifted in music. The William D.J. Cotton Scholarship is available to seniors at SUNY Geneseo, School of Business. You must have participated in a corporate Management Accounting Internship during the summer between junior and senior year to be eligible for this award.

The William Genesky Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship and was established by established by members of Tau Kappa Epsilon in memory of William Genesky, a member of the TKE Board of Advisors, who served as Chapter Advisor for more than 10 years. CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student who a) is an active member of a Geneseo fraternity, b) exhibits excellence in scholarship, c) demonstrates the ideals of Love, Charity, and Esteem, e) active participant in on-campus activities, f) is a leader in their chapter, g) is a positive part of the Geneseo community, h) is in good standing with the fraternity, and i) has a minimum 2.8 GPA. The Yan Zhu Cindy Guan Memorial Scholarship is available to graduate students at SUNY Geneseo, School of Business. You must be majoring in accounting and have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for this award. Preference is given to students who received their undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo.
