Scholarships at Durham Technical Community College

One scholarship recipient per college (of the 58 community colleges) valued at $500 each. Recipients will be selected by their college each year from applicants meeting eligibility criteria: Be enrolled full-time in the second year of a two-year educational/technical program. Demonstrate financial need and scholastic promise (GPA, 3.0 or above). Use the scholarship to pay for tuition, books, and/or transportation.

This scholarship was established by Dr. Alexandra and Aaron Lawrence as Mr. Lawrence was a proud DTCC alumni. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist in defraying educational costs for eligible DTCC students. Criteria: Have completed 3 credit hours in the program of study; be currently enrolled for a minimum of 3 credit hours and have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Tony Villalta is an alum of Durham Tech and while a student, received the George W. and Mary H. Newton Scholarship. He was inspired to start this scholarship because while he was in school, he always looked for the day when he could do the same thing for a student and see my name on the list of scholarships. This endowed scholarship was established by Charles T. Wilson, Jr and should be known as the C3 scholarship. The purpose is to benefit one student annually who is accepted in the NC State Community College Collaboration (C3), a dual-admission, dual-enrollment program between NC State University and Durham Technical Community College. Criteria: Student accepted into the C3 program and meet their criteria (student with less than 30 credit hours of college work; North Carolina resident; and minimum G.P.A. of 3.0); Enrolled as a full-time student at DTCC.

The annual scholarship award is for (5) students enrolled in an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree or graduate level program in a medical, nursing or social sciences related major. The student must be planning on pursuing a career that involves working with senior citizens.The applicant must be attending classes at an accredited college or university at the time of the spring deadline. Employees of A Place for Mom and members of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to apply. Applicants must complete the student information form, a 400 to 700 word essay on the selected topic and sign the Scholarship Award Agreement Scholarship will be awarded to five students who write the most compelling essay as judged by an outside panel of senior living professionals.
