Biennial awards (in even numbered years) for residents of South Carolina who are medical students enrolled at the University of South Carolina or the Medical University of South Carolina. Selection is based on the best essay submitted on a social, economic or ethical issue related to medicine. Essay should be eight to fifteen pages in length and properly referenced. Nonrenewable. The Adams Scholarship is available to undergraduate students at the University of South Carolina. You must be from South Carolina's Eighth Judicial District, have graduated from a public high school, have a minimum SAT score of 1300 and were ranked in the top five percent of your graduating class to be eligible for this award.

Scholarship for residents of Aiken County, South Carolina who are medical students enrolled at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine or the Medical University of South Carolina. Applicants may be selected from Edgefield County, Barnwell County, Allendale County, or McCormick County if no eligible applicants apply from Aiken County. Selection based on academic achievement. Scholarship for graduating high school seniors from Conway High School planning to attend the University of South Carolina. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, financial need, maintain high moral principles, be trustworthy, and exhibit leadership qualities. Number of awards may vary. Scholarship for residents of Anderson County, South Carolina who are medical students enrolled at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine or the Medical University of South Carolina. Applicants residing in the Clemson area of Pickens County may also be selected if two candidates cannot be identified in Anderson County. Selection based academic achievement. Due date may vary. The Andrew J. Savage Scholarship was created in 1997 by Mr. Savage to provide financial assistance to deserving students. Mr. Savage is a 1975 graduate of the School of Law. The Scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of financial need

This scholarship was created in 1991 by Timothy L. Brown in honor of his mother, Annabell B. Brown. Mr. Brown is a 1976 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded to a student whose parent has been killed in the line of duty in a war zone or in a combat situation, and who demonstrates academic merit and financial need. Preference is given to residents of South Carolina.

The Morrison Scholarship created in 1982 by Anne D. and James B. Morrison. Mr. Morrison was a 1932 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving law student who demonstrates financial need, and who has resided in the 15th Judicial Circuit (Georgetown County) for at least two years. In the event there is no applicant who meets these criteria, the Scholarship Committee may use its discretion in awarding the scholarship.

Prospective students who audition are automatically reviewed for this scholarship. Returning students are also reviewed for this scholarship. The Billy C. Coleman Scholarship was created in September 2009 by Richard J. Breibart, to honor his mentor, Billy C. Coleman, a 1938 graduate of the School of Law, who practiced law in Saluda and Lexington County for 69 years, until his retirement in 2007. The Scholarship is awarded to a South Carolina resident, with preference given to someone intending to practice in the State of South Carolina and who has financial need, with special interest in students who are first generation college graduates.

Scholarship for South Carolina residents who are graduate students enrolled in a Law or Performing Arts graduate program at the University of South Carolina, George Washington University, Converse College, or Winthrop University. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and financial need. Preference given to students from Horry County, South Carolina. Number of awards may vary. The Brailsford-Rosen Scholarship was created in 1984 by the Orangeburg County Bar Association, represented by Robert R. Horger, Esq. Louis Rosen received his law degree in 1934. He practiced law for a number of years, then in 1962 was elected to the Circuit Court, where he served until his retirement in 1979. He died in 1989. James Brailsford, Jr. received his law degree in 1964 and retired in 1974 as an Associate Justice of the SC Supreme Court. He died in 1993.

The Charles Bell Elliott Scholarship was created in 1975 by Mrs. Charles B. Elliott, wife of Mr. Charles Bell Elliott, in memory of her husband.

The Simons Scholarship created in 1983 by The Honorable Charles E. Simons, Jr., of Aiken, South Carolina. Mr. Simons was a 1939 graduate of the School of Law. Judge Simons, who served thirty-five years as judge of the United States District Court, died in 1999. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit.

This scholarship was created in January 2004 by the Waring Family to support scholarships at the School of Law. Applicant must be from one of the following: Orangeburg, Calhoun, or Dorchester Counties.

The Coleman Karesh Scholarship was created in 1977 by a group of University of South Carolina alumni and friends of Coleman Karesh, in order to preserve Mr. Karesh’s research notes. Coleman Karesh was a graduate of the School of Law and served as Professor of Law from 1937-1972. Awarded to a 2nd Year student.

This scholarship created in December 2006 by Joseph and Marie Kusa, parents of David A. Kusa, and by Kristina Kusa, widow of David A. Kusa. David Kusa, a member of the Law Class of 2005, died tragically in May 2005. The Scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and financial need.

The David H. Means Scholarship created in October of 1987 by Mrs. Frances K.B. Means in memory of her husband, David H. Means, Professor of Law at the USC School of Law from 1949 to 1977.

$2,250-$4,500; 1-2 awarded annually; recognizes rising M2 students who embody the institutional guiding principles.

This scholarship was created in July 2006 to honor Dennis R. Nolan, Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law from 1974-2008. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit.

The annual distribution from the Donor shall be awarded in its entirety. Decisions shall be based on merit and financial need by the School of Law Selection Committee. As part of their scholarship awards, recipients are required to write appreciation letters to the Donor. These letters must be submitted to the attention of the W. The Edward P. Perrin Scholarship was created in February 2007 by Anne Porcher Z. Perrin in honor of her husband, Edward P. Perrin, a 1950 graduate of the School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student with outstanding academic credentials who exhibits the personal traits of honesty, integrity, leadership and civic-mindedness. Preference will be given to a South Carolina resident who will be likely to practice law in this state, to give back to the community and for whom the scholarship will make a significant contribution to the ability to attend law school.

Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Integrated Information Technology.

The Emory M. Sneeden Scholarship was created in January 1989 by friends of Emory M. Sneeden, represented by the late Governor Robert E. McNair. Mr. Sneeden worked for many years with Gov. McNair at the McNair Law Firm, and was also an associate dean and lecturer at the University of South Carolina School of Law. From 1984-1986, Mr. Sneeden served as Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Mr. Sneeden died in 1987. The Scholarship is awarded to a South Carolina resident who demonstrates academic excellence.

The F. John Vernberg Fellowship is available to entering graduate students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina. You must be studying marine ecology to be eligible for this award.

The Ford-Coleman Scholarship was created in June 2005 to honor the donor’s mother, Mamie Ford Coleman, and in memory of her father, Curtis Everett Coleman. Mamie Ford Coleman worked at the South Carolina Tax Commission for more than twenty-seven years. The late Mr. Coleman received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 1947, and his law degree from the University in 1948. Mr. Coleman worked at the Internal Revenue Service for more than 24 years and was the recipient of the Albert Gallatin Award, the highest award presented to an employee of the U.S. Treasury Department for outstanding career service. The Scholarship is to be awarded to a student with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, on the basis of academic merit.

Funds from forfeited seat deposits and an annual contribution from receipts of the Law School Bookstore support scholarships for law students.

Awarded to an upperclass undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

The School of Law Class of 1986 created this scholarship in December 2007 in memory of The Honorable Frank Eppes, who died in August 2002. Judge Eppes was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives while an undergraduate student at USC, and he served in the House from 1949 until 1962, when he was elected judge of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. He served as judge until his retirement in 1985, but he continued to sit by special designation until 2000. Mr. Eppes died in 2002. The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving law student.

Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. First preference will be given to eligible students participating in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program at the University. Secondary preference will be given to honorably discharged veterans of the United States military or dependents of active duty or honorably discharged veterans of the United Sates military.

This scholarship was created in January 1990 by the late Fred J. Collins, Jr., who died in January of 2006. Mr. Collins wished to establish a scholarship to be awarded based on need and merit. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to a first-year student who demonstrates leadership and academic potential..

This George D. Haimbaugh, Jr. Scholarship was created in November 2009 in his honor and memory by his wife, Katharine D. Haimbaugh. Professor Haimbaugh taught at the University of South Carolina School of Law from 1963 until his retirement in 1987. The Scholarship is awarded to a student, who may hold the scholarship for the three years of law school.

This scholarship was created in February 1994 by Mr. King’s widow, Harriet W. King, and his daughter, Harriet King Wasserman, and by family and friends in memory of George Savage King. The fund may be used for student scholarships or emergency loans.

Additionally, this student must have also attended the Partners for Minorities in Engineering and Computer Science (PMECS) program at the University. This scholarship is not renewable.

The Harriet McBryde Johnson Scholarship was created in November 2008 by family and friends in honor and memory of Harriet McBryde Johnson, who died in 2008. Ms. Johnson was a 1985 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, whose career as civil rights lawyer and as a tireless advocate for the rights of the disabled made her a nationally revered attorney and a “titanic figure in state legal history,” according to Jean Toal, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. The Scholarship is to be awarded to a worthy law student.

This scholarship was created in February 2002 by family and friends of the late Henry W. Kirkland Sr. Mr. Kirkland was a 1953 graduate of the School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need

The Herbert W. Hoefer Scholarship was created in 1970 to honor Mr. Hoefer’s close association with the University of South Carolina, as two daughters and one son graduated from the University. In May 1990, the scholarship was renamed at the request of Mr. Hoefer’s daughter, Christina Hoefer Myers, to include one of his daughters, Jean H. Toal, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina and a 1968 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded to an incoming student on the basis of academic potential and financial need and may be renewed for each year of law school.

This scholarship was created in March 1975 by Mrs. R. B. Hildebrand to support scholarships at the School of Law.

The Rodney A. Peeples Scholarship was created in honor of The Honorable Rodney A. Peeples, of Barnwell, South Carolina, who has served as Resident Circuit Judge of the 2nd Judicial Circuit of South Carolina since 1974. Judge Peeples is a 1964 graduate of the School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student.

The I. S. Leevy Johnson Scholarship was created in July 1997 to provide funds for a scholarship. The Scholarship is to be awarded with preference to members of underrepresented groups as part of the School of Law’s effort to increase diversity. Preference shall be given to residents of South Carolina, with special emphasis to students who are involved in extra-curricular activities including but not limited to the University of South Carolina School of Law Black Law Students Association (BLSA).

This scholarship was created in December 2016 by Lance Lourie in memory of Isadore Lourie to support scholarships at the School of Law.

The J. C. Long Law Scholarship was created in January 1983 by Mr. John Charles Long, a 1925 graduate of the School of Law, to provide scholarship assistance to law students. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit.

This scholarship was created in August 2008 by Ashley B. Abel and by the law firm of Jackson Lewis, practicing employment and workplace law throughout the United States. The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student.

The scholarship(s) will be awarded by the University of South Carolina School of Law Scholarship Committee to eligible law student(s). Preference shall be for members of underrepresented student populations who have been accepted for admissions or who are currently enrolled at the University.

The James P. Leventis Memorial Scholarship was created in December 1984 in memory of James P. Leventis by his wife, Toula P. Leventis.

This scholarship created July 1998 by friends of the late Judge Randall T. Bell (1945-1994). Judge Bell was a law professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law from 1973-1980. He also served as judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, and later as an Associate Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. The Justice G. Dewey Oxner Scholarship was created November 1999 by his son, Attorney G. Dewey Oxner, Jr., to honor of his father, the late South Carolina Supreme Court Justice G. Dewey Oxner. Justice Oxner, a 1920 graduate of the School of Law, served on the Supreme Court of SC from January 1944 until his death in January 1962. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence.

The Ness Scholarship was created in November 1980 by the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association in honor of retired South Carolina Supreme Court Justice J. B. Ness. Chief Justice Ness, a 1940 School of Law graduate, served as Chief Justice from 1985-1988. He died in 1991. Awarded to South Carolina residents.

The Karen J. Williams Scholarship was created August 2003 by the Law Class of 1980 to honor their classmate, The Honorable Karen J. Williams, who served as Judge on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit from 1992-2007, and as Chief Judge from 2007 until her retirement in 2009. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit.

The Kathryn A. Bockman/Law Class of 2008 Scholarship was originally created in May 2008 by members of the Law Class of 2008 to provide scholarship support a deserving student. The scholarship was renamed in January 2009 in honor Kathryn A. Bockman, a member of the Law Class of 2008, who died tragically in October 2008. The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student.

This scholarship was created in September 2017 by Ken Baker in honor of John Crangle to support scholarships at the School of Law.

SLIS student interested in an academic library career who has the potential of making noteworthy contributions to academic library administration.

The Kevin Curry Scholarship was created in July 1993 by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth M. Curry, the parents of Kevin Curry, and by his friends and classmates. Kevin Curry died in April 1988, just before his graduation from the School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded to a law student who demonstrates financial need, with preference to a student with a medical disability or physical handicap.

The Knox L. Haynsworth, Jr. Scholarship was created in January 2002 by the law firm once known as Haynsworth Baldwin Johnson & Greaves to honor its founding partner, Knox Haynsworth, Jr. The firm has since merged with the law firm of Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart, which generously continues to provide support for the scholarship. The Scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to practice labor law.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by a Selection Committee from among applicants to the School of Law who (1) have either prior employment by a government body or agency or prior active duty service in the United States Military, and (2) earned an undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or better. The second condition may be waived where an applicant’s record includes credible reasons as to why a scholarship award would be justified despite a lower UGPA.

The Krista D. Latshaw Scholarship was created in December 2005 by members of the Latshaw Family. Krista D. Latshaw, along with fellow USC School of Law classmates, had expressed a desire to establish a scholarship fund at the School of Law in recognition of and appreciation for the highly valued experiences and education they received as law students. At Krista’s unexpected death in 2003, her family elected to use life insurance proceeds to establish a permanently endowed scholarship at the School of Law. The Scholarship is awarded with preference to out-of-state candidates to promote geographical diversity of the student body, and help foster awareness of the School’s excellence. Consideration is given to recipients with a demonstrated interest in helping others through significant volunteer activities.

This scholarship was created in December 1985 to honor the former Senator L. Marion Gressette and Florence H. Gressette, parents of Lawrence M. Gressette, Jr. While serving in the South Carolina State Senate in the 1950s and 1960s, Mr. Gressette worked against school desegregation, but in later years he fought to keep Clemson College open when ordered to admit its first black student, worked on passage of a bill marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a state holiday, and authored a plan to desegregate the state’s colleges and universities.

The Paul A. Cooper Memorial Legal Scholarship was created in 1960 by Mrs. Margaret H. Cooper, widow of the late Paul Anderson Cooper. Mr. Cooper received his law degree in 1913 and practiced law until his death in 1956. The Scholarship is awarded to a worthy law student who demonstrates financial need.

This scholarship was created in June 1989 by family and friends of Paul M. Moore, represented by his daughter, Mrs. Pam Moore Barrett. Mr. Moore, a School of Law graduate, died in 1989. He was an attorney and served as a member of the South Carolina House from 1957 -1958 and from 1961-1964. He served as a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1969-1976 and was elected Judge of the 7th Judicial Circuit in July of 1976. He retired from the bench in 1981 but continued serving as a special judge through January 1989. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit, with preference to students from Spartanburg or Cherokee County.

The scholarship will be awarded to a transfer undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering. The following factors are to be considered in making the award: (1) Undergraduate transfer student who has not completed a bachelor’s degree; (2) Undergraduate transfer student who shows true potential to be able to complete a Mechanical Engineering degree; (3) Undergraduate transfer student who has completed at least five technical courses (math, physics, chemistry, and/or engineering) after high school and prior to admission; (4) Undergraduate transfer student who is not eligible for any state scholarship, such as the LIFE or Palmetto Scholarship; (5) Undergraduate transfer student who has completed 30 hours of courses that apply to the degree, of which 15 hours must be technical courses as defined above; and (6) Standardized test scores, class ranking, high school diploma (GED is acceptable), high school grade point average, and any high school course work beyond 30 hours will not be considered in the selection process.
