Scholarships at Sam Houston State University

The Alvis Autrey Voice Award is available to students majoring in vocal music at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed at least four semesters of study and anticipate at least one more year in residence to be eligible for this award.

The Ann Crump and Charles T. Mallery Agribusiness Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship is available to full-time entering freshmen majoring in agribusiness at Sam Houston State University. You must be a high performing high school student with demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities and community service. You must also be a natural born citizen of the United States and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Anthony Kawsi Antiwi Political Science Scholarship is available to sophomores majoring in political science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA overall and in political science, have completed 24 credit hours at SHSU and 12 credit hours in political science and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Art Endowment Scholarship is available to students majoring in art at Sam Houston State University. Selection is based on GPA and artistic ability. You must be nominated for this award.

The Arthur Lynn Talk, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is available to students majoring in agriculture at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.75 GPA to be eligible for this award. Selection will also be based on your academic record, extracurricular activities and leadership.

The Beatrice Craig Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors at Sam Houston State University. You must be majoring in library science and/or be a SHSU library student assistant. You must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA, plan on returning to SHSU for at least one semester following, and demonstrate financial need this award to be eligible for this award.

The Ben H. Powell Scholarship is available to students majoring in history at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate high character values to be eligible for this award.

The Biology and Environmental Science Academic Scholarship is available to entering freshmen at Sam Houston State University. You must be majoring in biology or environmental science and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. You must also be in the upper 25 percent of your high school class and have a minimum 24 ACT or 1000 SAT score to be eligible for this award.

The Bonnie Baker Thorne Scholarship is available to graduate students majoring in library science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, plan on returning to SHSU for at least one semester following this award, and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Bryan Holly Hornbeck Endowed String Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in music at Sam Houston State University. You must have participated in the SHSU symphony for at least a year, demonstrate a commitment to the music department, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The C.R. Hackney Award for Music Education is available to students majoring in music education at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed at least one year in residence, show outstanding potential as a music educator, and anticipate at least one more year in residence to be eligible for this award.

The Cannan Geological Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in geology at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall and a minimum 3.2 GPA in geology. You must also submit faculty recommendations to be eligible for this award.

The Charles A. Schmidt Memorial Scholarship is available to continuing students majoring in theatre at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate both good citizenship and financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Charles Pebworth Sculpture Scholarship is available to students majoring in sculpture at Sam Houston State University. You must submit a portfolio and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in art. You must also show outstanding abilities in sculpture and have one full year of studies left to complete to be eligible for this award.

The Chemistry Academic Junior or Senior Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in chemistry at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and exhibit career goals to include further professional training in chemistry to be eligible for this award.

The Chi Tau Epsilon Scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in dance at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be an active member in good standing of Chi Tau Epsilon, and demonstrate community service. You must also attend pre-showings for "Dances @ 8" and choreograph a piece for Dances @ 8" to be eligible for this award.

The Claude McLeod Academic Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in biology or environmental science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Clemon and Carolyn Montgomery Endowed Scholarship is available to students majoring in agriculture at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Computer Science Scholarship is available to students majoring in computer science at Sam Houston State University.

The David Bernshausen Music Endowed Scholarship is available to full-time students majoring in music at Sam Houston State University. You must be an excellent instrumentalist or vocalist, demonstrate financial need, and be from the city of Yoakum or Lavaca or Wharton County to be eligible for this renewable award.

The Drs. Robert (Bob) and Mary Barnes Harris Endowed Scholarship is available to full-time students majoring in family and consumer sciences teaching certification at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed at least 48 hours, have a minimum 3.0 GPA in major and a 2.85 overall GPA. You must also demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The E.E. "Pete" Seale Scholarship is available to students majoring in speech communications at Sam Houston State University.

The Earl H. Burrough Endowed Scholarship is available to full-time students majoring in chemistry or physics at Sam Houston State University. You must be a native born U.S. citizen and a resident of Texas. You must also have a minimum 3.6 GPA and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Edward Geeslin Art Scholarship is available to students majoring in art at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate the potential for successful achievement and financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Elkins Lake Kuntz-Nelson Memorial Art Scholarship is available to students majoring in painting at Sam Houston State University. You must submit a painting and have at least one full year of studies left to complete at SHSU to be eligible for this award.

The Elmadel Driscoll Robinson Home Economics Scholarship is available to juniors majoring in family and consumer sciences at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall and in major to be eligible for this award.

The Elton M. Scott Scholarship for Geography Students is available to seniors majoring in geography at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall, as well as in geography classes to be eligible for this award.

The Emma Normand Academic Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in biology or environmental science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Emmette Jackson Endowed Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in photography at Sam Houston State University.

The Erica Czerwinski Scholarship is available to students majoring in musical theatre at Sam Houston State University. You must be in good standing, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum 2.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Erica Starr Memorial Theatre Endowment Scholarship is available to students majoring in theatre design and technology (lights, costume and scenery) at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Faculty Scholarship is available to students majoring in physics at Sam Houston State University. Selection is made by the Physics Department.

The Family and Consumer Sciences Memorial Endowment Scholarship is available to juniors majoring in family and consumer sciences at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Frances Elmer Special Education Scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students majoring in special education at Sam Houston State University. You must have been admitted to the educator preparation program and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Franklin D. Rich Scholarship is available to students majoring in statistics at Sam Houston State University.

The Fray Stallings Wells Scholarship is available to juniors majoring in family and consumer sciences at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.85 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Freshman Alumni Angel Scholarship is available to freshman majoring in radio and television at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed at least 12-32 hours and have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall and in your major to be eligible for this award.

The Freshmen Scholarship in Physics is available to freshmen majoring in physics at Sam Houston State University. You must have scored at least 1000 on the SAT and be in top 25 percent of your high school class to be eligible for this award.

The Genevieve H. Brown Scholarship is available to graduate students in the counseling program at Sam Houston State University. You must be a student in good standing, be a member of Beta Kappa Tau Chapter of Chi Sigma lota, and have a minimum 3.5 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Gerald L. Holder Scholarship for Geography Students is available to seniors majoring in geography at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall in and in geography classes to be eligible for this award.

The Grace Harriston Standley Scholarship is available to graduate students majoring in library science at Sam Houston State University. The H.O. "Molly" Crawford Scholarship is available to male, junior students seeking kinesiology teacher certification at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and completed at minimum of 64 credit hours to be eligible for this award.

The Hal Fulgham Memorial Scholarship is available to entering freshmen majoring in photography at Sam Houston State University. You must have been a resident of Texas for at least five years be eligible for this award.

The Halina M. Lukaszewski Memorial Scholarship is available to students majoring in chemistry or political science at Sam Houston State University.

The Homer Glen Cowan and Billie Caperton Cowan Educational Scholarship is available to graduate students majoring in library science or educational leadership at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Houstonian Staff Scholarship is available to student members of the Houstonian staff at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need and contributions to the student newspaper to be eligible for this award.

The Humphreys Foundation Scholarship is available to entering freshmen and transfer students majoring in theatre or musical theatre at Sam Houston State University.

The Inez Meachum Powell Award in Music Scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in music at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate outstanding academic attainment, character of unquestioned merit, and anticipate one more year in residence to be eligible for this award.

The J.C. Stallings Scholarship is available to current students majoring in chemistry at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Jack S. Staggs Kappa Delta Pi Scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students majoring in education at Sam Houston State University. You must have been admitted to the educator preparation program, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society to be eligible for this award.

The James B. and Marilyn C. Shepard Scholarship is available to students majoring in art at Sam Houston State University. You must be a native born U.S. citizen and have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible for this award. Preference is given to sculpture majors.

The James Ellison Kirkley Scholarship is available to students majoring in history, political science, geography or sociology at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate high academic achievement to be eligible for this award.

The Lowry Scholarship is available to students at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed at least two semesters at SHSU, be active in collegiate FFA, and demonstrate good character to be eligible for this award.

The Lyman and Janet Bilhartz Scholarship is available to full-time students majoring in history with a pre-med minor at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.4 GPA to be eligible for this award. Entering freshmen must have a minimum 1200 SAT score.

The Lynch Endowment Scholarship is available to juniors majoring in family and consumer sciences at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Madison Wolfe Photography Scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors and seniors at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed at least six photography hours at SHSU, appreciate and respect photography, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible for this award. Recipients are also required to write an essay at the end of each semester.

The Margaret McPherson Piano Award is available to sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in piano at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate an unusual contribution of piano through solo performances and/or accompaniments to be eligible for this award.

The Margaret Powell Scholarship is available to seniors majoring in kinesiology at Sam Houston State University. You must be a female and have a minimum 3.2 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Mark Mitchell Memorial Scholarship is available to continuing students majoring in theatre or musical theatre at Sam Houston State University.

The Mary Frances Park Endowment Scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students at Sam Houston State University. You must have been admitted to the educator preparation program, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Mohamed Ahmed Noman Endowment Scholarship is available to students majoring in computer science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 in major GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Montague Dance Scholarship is available to juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in dance at Sam Houston State University.

The Morris Frank/Dan Rather B.J. Scholarship is available to students majoring in radio and television or broadcast journalism at Sam Houston State University. You must have completed or be currently enrolled in RTV 374 and have a minimum 2.5 GPA overall and a 3.0 RTV GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Music Performance Scholarship is available to students majoring in music at Sam Houston State University. You must audition to be eligible for this award.

The Nicholson-Bozeman Scholarship in Musical Theatre is available to continuing students majoring in musical theatre at Sam Houston State University. Selection is based on talent, grades and need.

The Outstanding Astronomy Student Scholarship is available to students majoring in astronomy at Sam Houston State University.

The Outstanding Journalism Student Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in journalism at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate academic achievement, journalism achievement through department publications, campus activities and service to other journalism students in a leadership role to be eligible for this award.

The Outstanding Junior Physics Major Scholarship is available to juniors majoring in physics at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and must return to SHSU the semester after receiving the award to be eligible.

The Outstanding Senior Physics Major Scholarship is available to seniors majoring in physics at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Patrick Neil O'Bryant Academic Scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in environmental science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Ray E. Humphrey Scholarship is available to current students majoring in chemistry at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. citizen to be eligible for this award.

The Richard Cording Endowed Scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in philosophy at Sam Houston State University.

The Robert A. Welch Foundation Fellowship is available to students majoring or minoring in chemistry at Sam Houston State University. You must be enrolled in CHM 495 and be participating in an undergraduate research program to be eligible for this award.

The Robert Fulton Battise "Chief Kina" Scholarship is available to Native-American undergraduate students majoring in history at Sam Houston State University. One award is given to a member of the Alabama-Coushatte Tribe and the other is awarded to any member of a Native-American tribe.

The Roger Lee Olson Scholarship is available to students majoring in history at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Roy G. Moss, Jr. Health Education Scholarship is available to students majoring in health education at Sam Houston State University. You must have an exemplary GPA, display leadership potential, and be involved in community health issues to be eligible for this award.

The Ruth Wynn Thomason Hollinshead Endowment Scholarship is available to students majoring in theatre with a focus on costume design or construction at Sam Houston State University.

The San Antonio Livestock Exposition Scholarship is available to entering freshmen majoring in agriculture at Sam Houston State University. You must be a Texas resident, take at least 12 credit hours per semester, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and comply with S.A.L.E to be eligible for this award.

The Sara Catherine Howard - Barbara Lewis Endowed Scholarship is available to students majoring in library science at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

The Scholarship for Continuing Drama Majors is available to continuing students majoring in theatre at Sam Houston State University. Selection is based on grades, talent and financial need.

The Scholarship for Incoming Theatre Majors is available to entering freshmen and transfer students majoring in theatre at Sam Houston State University. Audition, letters of recommendation and an interview is required.

The Seitz Gift Fruit/Golden Valley Farms Scholarship is available to seniors majoring in agriculture science seeking teacher certification at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible for this award. One award is given to a student prior to student teaching and the other is awarded to a student within the student teaching block.

The Shags Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in geology at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and submit faculty recommendations to be eligible for this award.

The Temple Foundation Scholarship is available to students majoring in history at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate high scholarly ability to be eligible for this award.

The Thomas M. Camfield Scholarship is available to juniors and seniors majoring in history at Sam Houston State University. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate high academic achievement to be eligible for this award.

The Vivian Reid Mehr Scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students at Sam Houston State University. You must be entering or returning to college after raising a family or planning a second career and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for this award.

The Weldon Hall, Jr. Endowment in English Scholarship is available to entering freshmen and transfer students majoring in English at Sam Houston State University. Freshmen must have a minimum 3.3 GPA, graduate in the top 10 percent of your high school class and have an ACT English score of at least 26. Transfer students must have a minimum 3.3 GPA to be eligible for this award.

The Weldon Hall, Jr. Scholarship is available to entering freshmen majoring in art at Sam Houston State University. You must submit artwork to the art department to be eligible for this award.

The William F. Brown Scholarship is available to students majoring in theatre or musical theatre at Sam Houston State University. You must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award.
